A Cultural Extravaganza… Part 2

June 23rd, 2011 by Rebecca@rockmywedding Leave a reply »

Welcome back and get ready for another mind-blowingly spectacular instalment of Kiren and Sandeep’s wedding. This part showcases their wedding reception held at Hopetoun House with a modern fusion slant and stunning decor by the Planet Flowers team who win my prize for most innovative ways with Gerberas!

Check the shoes ladies ;)

Fusion Fashion

I knew I wanted two very different looks for the day. I kept it very east, traditional and indian on the wedding day and very white wedding at the reception. I wore an ivory dress/gown with a train, The outfit had crystal bead work all over and was a bespoke design from Mongas in London.

For jewellery, I wore a diamond set with pearls. I had a multi coloured gerbera bouquet hand tied with blue ribbon to match my shoes.

They were blue Manolo Blahnik ‘Hangisi’ jeweled satin pumps, (the ones out of Sex and the City which Carrie Bradshaw wore on her wedding day). They were my fave accessory on the day!

A Contrasting Face

Heavy eyes and nude lips. A complete contrast to my wedding day.I used Mac and Chanel.

I had my hair out in barrel curls very soft and flowing and had a swarovski diamond hair comb sweeping back one side of my hair.

Super Styling

Sandeep had a velvet suit from Dolce & Gabbana (3 Piece) with a black swarovski tie to add a little bling!

He was accessorized with purple Prada shoes, custom made cuff links and a single pink gerbera as his button hole.

Stand out Style

The Heritage team at Hopetoun House made all the finishing touches just perfect. Their execution was impeccable.

It was important that with so much space in the marquee (on the grounds at the back of Hopetoun House) the decor created the right mood for the day while still representing us as a couple. The Planet Flowers team used two styles of flowers – gerberas in a tall vase and gerberas in a fish bowl, in three main colours – magenta, red and orange, to dress the marquee.

Main features around our sweetheart table included elephants made of moss mounted on plinths with long chains of gerberas hanging behind us and dressing our sweetheart table.

I had coloured drapes of material hanging from the centre of the marquee out towards the sides of the marquee frames to give the marquee intense colour. The blend of colours used really created the impact I was looking for while still maintaining an overall polished look. Once the reveal was pulled back another room was revealed.

This was the lounge area, which was like our very own private nightclub. It had a black and white chequered dance floor; purple carpet; poser tables white couches with cube seating; poser tables with baby elephants as a decorative piece; and a chocolate fountain…it was a complete contrast to the dining marquee. It really created a chic party feel for the evening. Outside on the grounds we had a bouncy castle for all the children.

Couture Cake

Our cake was cut at the RECEPTION it was from the award winning 3D Cakes in Edinburgh –

The cake was designed like a waterfall with each tier risen on glass plinths. Really unusual. The bottom tier was humingbirds velvet cake flavour. This was Sandeep’s favourite cake flavour so I had them make it especially. The other tiers were Chocolate orange and toffee.

The Story of the Day

I had looked at a few for the reception from castles to stately homes but nothing was really catering for our numbers. I was actually working in Dubai at the time when my mum came across Hopetoun House. She visited it with the rest of my family and she knew it was the venue. I trusted her choice implicitly as she always knew what I wanted. I remember the first time I went to see the venue, I knew then why Hopetoun House was Scotland’s finest stately home.

As you approach Hopetoun House the panoramic view of the main façade is breathtakingly revealed. It was in such a perfect setting with views of the Forth Road Bridge and 150 acres of ground. Once inside you can see the interiors from late Georgian through Edwardian with much of the original decoration still intact.

It was a glorious day the sun was beating down and as we were about to make our grand entrance by helicopter we could see people milling outside the venue sipping on champagne and munching on canapés. We had a Jazz trio band entertaining the guests while we arrived.

Everyone was shocked once we landed on the grounds as nobody knew about our plans to arrive by our very own private helicopter. It was a great surprise! Once we landed we were greeted by two pipers (friend’s of my brother from Fettes college in Edinburgh) who piped us to our guests. We were met by our immediate families and friends. Everyone was so happy. We then walked through Hopetoun House to the back of the venue where the marquee had been positioned. All the guests were seated and awaiting on our entrance into the marquee. I had told my ushers in advance what my plans were for the marquee entrance so they were fully prepped.

As soon as they heard Black Eyed Peas – ‘I gotta feeling’ they danced and clapped their way into the marquee on an announcement made by our Master of Ceremonies Morris. The immediate family then followed. Sandeep and I entered last to the claps and wolf whistles of our guests.

After everyone was fed the MC announced the first dance and visions of our very own personal nightclub in the adjoining marquee was revealed. The décor was just breathtaking and it had all the features which I had envisaged. Our DJ Tigerstyle from Glasgow played our pre-wedding shoot on plasma screen for our guests to introduce our first dance. The pre-wedding video was like an MTV video and we could not believe what a fantastic compilation to Michael Buble’s ‘Everything’ our videographer Shaadi videography had created.

The MC then introduced the first dance and Sandeep and I took our place on our funky black and white chequered dance floor. This was probably the most nerve-racking part of the night but we managed to deliver unstirred.

Entertaining the Crowd

There were many surprises to entertain our guests on the day too from Samba dancers to the grand finale of fireworks and fire throwers just to give our wedding the ultimate x-factor!

Our DJ, Tigerstyle from Glasgow played our pre-wedding shoot on plasma screen for our guests to introduce our first dance. The pre-wedding video was like an MTV video and we could not believe what a fantastic compilation to Michael Buble’s ‘Everything’ our videographer Shaadi videography had created.

Then the dancing began and Tigerstyle serenaded the guests to an excellent playlist. I don’t think anyone stopped dancing. We even had a girls vs boys dance off which was a brilliant way to get the guests going.

Then later on in the evening the MC announced my surprise from Sandeep – the Samba dancers. The guests were left speechless…the girls delivered a brilliant performance and certainly raised the roof! It was a brilliant highlight to the evening. As the night drew to an end, we all gathered outside for the grand finale where we were greeted by fire throwers and a magnificent firework display. I just remember seeing the last firework fade into the night sky and looking up at Sandeep and thinking what a fabulous wedding. We were truly blessed!

Advice from a perfectionist Bride!

Being a perfectionist I made sure every little detail was perfect for us. Thorough planning is always key!
As we met in London we wanted to incorporate a little London into our day, so we re-created the London Underground map as a table plan. It was certainly creative!
Always shop around. Prioritise what is a must and what you can do without. On a budget you cannot always get everything you want. Be sensible by creating a look with key pieces.

This is such an incredible wedding – oh how I wish my venue allowed fireworks and would let me create my own nightclub! (and that the budget would extend to such excitements, but that’s a minor point)
