A Kentish Country Garden……part 1

Well then. Where do I even start?

Catheryne and Matthew have somehow managed to incorporate a whole bunch of personal pieces into their Big Day whilst keeping it sweet, simple and at the same time super super pretty.

Hats off to them I say.

Oh and we get to hear about the planning details from both the bride AND the groom….we love it when that happens!

With thanks to the lovely Kelly Green from Lola Rose Photography for submitting the eye candy.

Natural Beauty

One of the bestmen’s girlfriends is a make up artist so she made me up on the day. I don’t wear a lot of make-up normally so wanted to keep it pretty simple. I certainly didn’t want to spend my day looking nothing like myself!

Bespoke Pretty

I can’t remember the original designer of my dress (!) but my mum and I altered it, a lot!

Originally it was strapless with a 6ft train, sparkly, glittery detailing and a HUGE thick lining. The train, beading and excess lining were the first to go then the straps were added. The flower was sewn on on the morning of the wedding, nothing like leaving things to the last minute!

Why Have One When You Can Have TWO?

I went for two pairs of shoes for the day, a pair of Kurt Geiger ‘Penelope’ (which happens to be my mums name) wedges for the church and then an amazingly beautiful pair of turquoise Irregular Choice shoeboots.

Keeping It Local

We got married on 20th August, which happens to be my dad’s birthday. The ceremony was at a little church in Bearsted – Holy Cross where I used to go for the Christmas service when I was at primary school, we then had the reception in a marquee in my parents garden.

Mix And Match

We ended up with a sort of brown, blue, pink, cream theme. Not what I was after originally but I spent a few months in a mad panic trying to find dresses to suit all six bridesmaids that would match my dress and Matthew’s suit and his four groomsmen and the flowers and, and, and! After my months of madness I decided it really didn’t matter as long as Matthew and I got married!

Matthew: Groomsmen wore their own suits, we decided that them all matching would be a little too regimented. The 2 best men wore trainers, I liked the idea of them wearing trainers and me wearing shoes. Catheryne’s niece’s always maintained that you were not an adult until you got married no matter how old you were and the trainers and shoes were a symbol of that.

Made To Measure

Matthew: My suit was a 3 piece in chocolate brown with an aquamarine blue lining. The suit was made for me as I have never found exactly the right size off the peg. I wore brown shoes and bright orange socks!

Family Flowers

My mum was convinced that because I wanted such simple flowers that we could do them ourselves (she almost convinced me we could do the catering ourselves as well) but in the end Ann, one of my sister’s mother in law, stepped in and saved us!

We had jam jars (which I’d been saving for months) filled with garden flowers on the tables. My bridesmaids’ and I had hydrangea bouquets and my nieces had a chrysanthemum in their hair, I had been picking the flowers to decorate my car from my Grampa’s garden in the morning and he suggested I pick the chrysanthemum planted by my Nana, she’d died a few months before the wedding so it lovely to have a little bit of her in the pictures.

Now you all know how much I love a Hydrangea right?

Well…. add to that lust list a turquoise shoeboot with a floral sole. A.mazing.

Come back tomorrow for all of the pretty garden reception details ;-)

Big Kentish Love
