A Pre-Raphaelite Love Affair.

Katey-And-Freddy

It never fails to amaze me just how creative brides and grooms get with the dreaming and scheming of their wedding day. Never ever. Take Katey and Freddy for example who said ‘I Do’ at the delicious venue that is Preston Court.

Katey was inspired by the Pre Raphaelite look of long flowing hair and flower headpieces and so she dressed her maids in vintage nightgowns. Yes actual nightgowns! I know and I tell you what lovelies, it so blinking works. All of the girls look exquisite complete with flowers in their hair. I only wish I’d thought of it first!

And that’s not all. Here at RMW HQ we’re forever coming across up and coming hot, new bridal designers but it was Katey who introduced me to the tailoring genius that is John Zimmermann. Katey’s dress, designed by John, is perhaps my favourite frock to appear on these pages this year; it is utterly dreamy.

I could go on and on and on but I don’t want to spoil the surprise before you lot take a gander for yourselves so without further ado I give you Katey and Freddy’s big day….

Katey The Bride: I was inspired by the Pre Raphaelite look of long flowing hair and flower headpieces. It kind of worked with the gardens and lake at the venue. The bridesmaid dresses were vintage nightgowns, and the flowers were wild and untamed.

The guys all just wore their own dark suits so they each had an individual look. We made boutonnieres for each of the groomsmen and our fathers with the same wild flowers.

We instantly fell in love with the barn; we knew we wanted the day to be centered around a big feast and the barn was the perfect setting.

The gardens did a lot of the work for us in terms of decor. For the barn, we wanted a warm glow (we couldn’t have candles as the barn is hundreds of years old) so we had festoon lights on a dimmer.

The flowers were put together by Charlie at The Real Cut Flower Garden. I did loads of moodboards for her and she totally got what we were after. Wild and untamed and natural.

My favourite moment of the day was walking into the barn with Freddy and seeing the beautiful smiling faces of everyone we loved all there together.

We had a local band called Patch and the Giant. They played out in the garden while we were getting our photos done so they kept everyone entertained. In the barn, we asked a couple of friends to DJ.

Food was provided by local chef Stella Grove. We wanted a big banquet with plates in the middle rather than silver service 3-course meal. We had a big BBQ with loads of salads. It was delicious.

Sarah Gawler was a dream. She totally captured the spirit of the day and was fun to have around. Cinereportage did the video on super 8 and 16mm cameras which was a lot of fun.

Choose the things that matter the most to you and spend the money on those things. The guests aren’t obsessing over every tiny detail like you are. Also, Let others help you! It saves money and takes some of the stress off your plate.

  1. Oh.my.goodness. The combination of Katey’s figure + that dress and wow, what a drop-dead gorgeous bride that is! I just found myself drooling over the photos of her, I think I’m smitten haha!

These photos are also filppin’ gorgeous – the one of Katey in the window, the one walking over the bridge with the long long train and then the bridesmaids and the flower crowns. I wish I was at this wedding, it is just so beautiful. Well done guys!

  2. JUST WOW! that dress is stunning Katey. Your photographer captured the whole day perfectly – in fact I’m showing our photographer so he can see the exact style we want too! xx

  3. Shheeezzzuuzz what a dress!! absolutley stuning bride. With 5 weeks to my own wedding I now want that dress and figure! Gorgeous x

  4. Just to echo everyone above…Katey looks STUNNING. What a beautiful gown.

This wedding is just so whimsical, airy and full of light…I love it!

Also, I’m definitely becoming a lover of bbq’s and sharing platters at weddings, it just makes things so much more relaxed!!

    1. Do you know Fern one of the best weddings I’ve been to had a sharing platter for the starter. I was a bit worried about the practicalities of it at first i.e. will some greedy guts eat too much and not leave enough for others but it worked out perfectly and everyone was super polite and it actually helped our table (not all of us knew each other) to bond so by the end we were all cracking jokes as if we’d known each other forever. I’m definitely a fan!

  5. She looks amazing! I would really love to know where she got her slip to go under her dress as I have a similar shaped dress which is lace but I can’t seem to find the right underwear to go with it. Any pointers would be great 🙂

  6. Dreamy wedding! What’s not to love? Beautiful bride, GORGEOUS dress (& bridesmaids too!), stunning location, just everything! Congratulations, looks like you had a wonderful day. x

    1. The venue is awesome isn’t it? I love how different it can look.

We’ve featured several weddings from Preston Court and they are all so varied!

  7. That’s exactly what I invisiage for our big day.. Is there anyway to find out where the bridesmaids dreses are from? So beautiful!

  8. Uh-Maze-Ing – this is sooo gorgeous, the light in these photos doesn’t even look like Britain!!!!

The fash is obvs to die for, as is Katey’s figure, totes schmokin.

I have to say, lighting (candles, festoon, fairy…) is soooooo important and something i find i am always noticing in write ups

    Congrats lovebirds xx

PS – what shops did you manage to find those gorgeous vintage nighties…? i am a sucker for a nighty!

  9. Gorgeous gorgeous dresses! Simply amazing wedding gown and Katey looks damn hot in it with curves in all the right places! Those golden locks of hers are stunning too and I must say I even prefer them later in the day when they look that tiny bit wilder! Really such a beautiful wedding that brightened my day!

  10. I love, love, love this dress! Where did Katey get it from? I’ve googled but can’t seem to find a website for John Zimmermann let alone stockists 🙁

  11. Oh my goodness I have spent way too long today trying to find that dress…can anyone tell me how to get my hands on one?!

  12. Thank you all so much! Such amazingly nice comments.

Charlotte & Nicola, the slips were vintage nightgowns. Try Annie’s in Camden Passage, Islington. Or Pennies, also in Islington. Or any local vintage fair. Or eBay. As long as they are silk and vintage you’ll get that effect.

Katie, Rhian & Jules, John Zimmerman who made my dress is based in New Zealand. Give him a call on +649-307-4443. I’m from New Zealand so was able to go for a few fittings but had to get a UK seamstress to fit the final version when it arrived anyway. So if you send him your measurements he should be able to send it up to you and then you may just need a few nips and tucks.

    Katey xx

    1. I am so in love with this gorgeous dress… I thought I had it narrowed down to two dress choices but now I’m not going to be able to get this out one out of my head. I’m from the States though 🙁 … do you know if John Zimmerman has a website or any other contact info? … or what the price point of the dress was so that if it’s completely out of my budget I can just force myself to turn away :)….

      Thanks so much’
