Today we have a whole lot of elegant vintage inspired pretty for you all and we do love to have a Jenny Packham Dress on Rock My Wedding. I have to say ladies, I’m loving the Brides whole look actually, not least a completely knock out hair design, wait ’till you see – it’s a beauty.
Paul and Hannah were married in May last year. The ceremony was held at All Saints Church Milford on Sea, Hampshire, and a reception in her parents garden, Milford on sea, Hampshire.
All of the beautiful images are courtesy of Carrie Bugg Photography.
….We always knew we wanted to have our reception in my parents garden and when they built their house opposite the village church it all fell into place perfectly.
That Jenny Packham ‘Swish’…
I had never imagined myself as a fairytale princess bride. I wanted elegant, under stated yet stunning. I knew it had to move, I love to see movement in fabric and when I walked my dress had the swish factor. I had always admired Jenny Packham dresses, long before she was a “celebrity” dress designer. I tried on lots of big dresses too, more to make my mum smile and my sister in law laugh!
I found Shay Harris Bridal in Bedford Place, Southampton. Shay was every girl’s dream of a dress shop. Sweet, lovely and kind, not at all over powering. From the moment I walked into her vintage inspired shop with large old speckled ornate mirrors I knew I had found my dress shop before my dress, It was just a case of choosing a Jenny Packham dress that suited me because I loved them all. My dress shouted me, suited my shape, there was no pressure to think “I must loose weight” it made me feel so beautiful without being someone I wasn’t.
Echoing the Past
My engagement ring was from the 1930s, so anything resembling that era makes me weak at the knees. The Jenny Packham Arcadia headpiece ticked every box. Jewelery was simple, my mums pearl earrings, I didn’t need anything else, the dress, head piece along with my very very happy face was all I wanted, although Paul surprised me with a 1930s bracelet we had seen in a vintage shop on the morning of our wedding.
I thought it had been sold to someone else, only it was him. I had an earring change in the evening, a huge pair of Chandeliers. Too much for daytime but a fabulous party sparkle in the evening.
Shoe Simplicity
Shoes are one of those things that I simply adore and I thought my wedding shoes would reflect this, but I could not have been more simple with them.
Originally I was going to use the spare beads from my dress and detail them, but I was concerned that they may snag my dress so I kept them just the way they were, and they were perfect. No skyscrapers though as Paul and my Dad are not very tall!!!
Sculpted Hair
I had a hair fairy and was super blessed!
My bridesmaid and best friend is also my hairdresser and I trust her totally, so when I went in for my trial and wanted a soft wave down do, then walked out with a carefully constructed masterpiece of an updo, I knew I had “wow” hair. It was the perfect finish to my whole look.
After one disastrous makeup trial it confirmed that I wanted to do my own makeup, – one very expensive trip to Mac. Resembling a happy kid in a sweet shop I was all set and the results on the day were wonderful if I do say so myself.
Grey for the Groom
Paul looked spectacular. He originally wanted to buy a suit but opted for hiring in the end, but had a twist to the traditional morning suit and went for the royal ascot light grey.
A lovely touch was his handmade shirt, which also featured our new initials embroidered in a discrete place. And not to mention his fabulous statement shoes, He looked the bomb and felt it too!
Hire and Heaven
We had quite a large bridal party so hiring was our option for the groomsmen and Austin Reed provided an excellent stress free service.
I could not have had an easier experience with my bridesmaid dresses. I happened to be out shopping with my mum on the day the Monsoon sale started. The dresses literally leapt off the rail at me, they had all four sizes I needed and with half price flouro tag winking at me we snapped them up.
With four very different shapes and sizes I was so pleased that they all looked fabulous and felt fabulous. The colour changed as the days light changed and the vintage detailing tied in so well with all the details of the wedding.
Elegance personified. Yes?
Come back tomorrow for the marquee reception and a ton of DIY pretty plus some just lovely couple shots.
Yours Truly,
Rebecca
