Behind The Scenes….At Rock My Wedding

April 24th, 2010 by Charlotte@rockmywedding Leave a reply »

I do feel a little bit guilty, we were supposed to have a final day of “pretty” today but after several mishaps it didn’t quite go according to plan.

Boo.

So I hope you can bear with us while we provide you with a little bit of ‘what’s going on at RMW HQ’ information and promise you that next week will be just as full of loveliness and inspirational eye candy as this week has been.

Themed Weeks

We’ve tried it out a couple of times now and we think you like it! Yay!

We certainly do – it gives us a real focus and actually it’s a lot of fun researching products and content that we think will work for that theme and that you gorgeous lot will love.

We have two ideas in particular than we think are great, we will be working on those over the coming weeks and you will see the end result in the very near future.

Sponsors

We really want to highlight an important part of our business, Sponsorship. The sponsors you see on the right hand side bar are industry professionals that we think are great, really great. You will never see a sponsor appear that doesn’t fit with our ethos or our tastes or one that we wouldn’t recommend to our readers.

We know there are other blogs out and forms of media out there that allow every man and his dog to advertise with them if it means money in the bank. Well I’m pleased to say that’s just not us, and we can’t comprehend why anyone would want to misrepresent their brand by being associated with vendors that don’t provide a consistently high quality of work.

We want you to rock your wedding and we will only ever associate our blog with suppliers that we know can help you do that.

Nothing less.

The About Page

Good Lordy this was a long time coming eh? We really needed to update this section of the site and late last night we did.

Hoo bloomin’ ra.

A few weeks back Rebecca and I were invited by the lovely Pete and Laura of Lawson Photography to pose around Manchester for a few hours so we could get some appropriate images for this very area of the blog.

We had a great day and both Pete and Laura made us both feel really comfortable and at ease in front of the camera as well as exchanging wedding Industry gossip and general banter!

Go check out the About section for an update on the RMW team.

Oh and no we don’t in any way think we fit into All about the pretty week but we do think the Lawsons photography is pretty. Very pretty indeed.

So ignore the models and concentrate on the composition, they take a lovely shot so they do.

Future Developments

We are really pleased with the response to Undress and are seeing new beautiful once-worn gowns appear for sale every week.

Our biggest development yet is very nearly finished. We are just working on final branding and formatting decisions and next month it should be pretty much ready to go. We can’t mention too much because of potential copy cats but we want you to know we are ALWAYS working away in the background making Rock My Wedding the best it can possibly be and a place you gorgeous lot want to come back and visit often.

Oh Um and I probably shouldn’t mention this ( Rebecca and Adam may literally kill me ) but we we are also working on a sister site to Rock My Wedding.

Yup that’s right you heard me…..another little Rock My place in the blogsphere.

When Rebecca first suggested it ( Adam and I take literally no credit for this genius idea by the way)…at first I was like “What?! – are you completely bl*ody mental?!” then Adam and I proceeded to spend several weeks trying to tell Madam Norris why it just wasn’t possible.

And did she take No for an answer?

Did she heck.

And now we are all actually quite excited about it.

So then, what is it…… well again ( I know I know a million apologies….blame you know who)…..we can’t reveal all quite yet but let’s just say it is something the vast majority of you on the survey asked for ( to our absolute surprise if we’re being honest)…and something absolutely no other wedding blog on the entire planet is taking advantage of.

We aim to innovate not imitate ;)

The Blogfather

And what the hell happened to him hmmm?

Well um….we basically had him locked away developing stuff.

Soon he will be free ( ok so not free exactly but certainly more available ) and as a result he will be back with more regular posts on all things manly in Weddingville.

Although mostly associated with the bride, your Big Day is about you and your fiance so we would like to provide some useful ideas and inspiration for them too.

The art of Social Media

Could do with your help on this guys if you don’t mind.

As several hundred of you know we have a Facebook fan page, we update it daily with our posts but don’t do a fat lot else with it. If we’re honest it has got left behind a bit in the midst of everything else that is going on here at RMW HQ and we would like to do something about it.

So lovelies – what would you like us to do with Facebook? What would you like to see? Gallery’s perhaps? A place where you can chat about specific topics? Let us know and we’ll get straight on it.

Twitter.

Hmmm, a funny one for us. It’s been brilliant for discovering Industry suppliers and finding out a bit about what is going on in the world of weddings but not so much actual brides. And at the end of the day its the readers that make our blog successful not how many twitter followers we have.

Again we don’t perhaps make as much of twitter as we could, it just hasn’t been top of our priority list.

You guys however are.

So tell us what you think of Twitter and anything else we should be doing in the world of social media.

We heart feedback.

Have a fantastic sunshine-filled weekend

Big “Innovate don’t Imitate” Love

Myself and my sister follow you on Twitter and I always click on the links you tweet so I can see the latest blog updates.

People who have iPhones (lots of us) and use Twitter find it easier to do as I do, it’s easy and convenient. It’s seldom I use my iMac since having this little gadget in my handbag

Love the photos- of COURSE you both fit into the All about the Pretty category!! Can’t wait to see the new developments and the sister site-it almost makes me sad now that my wedding is just 2 months away (aaargh!) as I won’t have an excuse to come here every day and see what’s going on (although I’m sure I’ll still visit once I’m a Mrs!!) thanks for all the hard work you put into all of this xx

  4. Anita says:

Ps forgot-re Facebook- would be AWESOME if there was a chat section- I don’t use a certain wedding forum since it got ‘upgraded’ (whatever) so would love somewhere else to chat about all things wedding!!

  6. Ha Ha yes Aisling I did have a little laugh to myself over the Volvo!!

Teresa – that is good to know, thanks for sharing Hun.

Anita, bless you, we promise to have lots of nice things for you to look at even when you are a Mrs!

Emsie – the top picture the dress is from French Connection but in the majority of shots the dress is from Dorothy Perkins – an absolute bargain at £28!!!!

  12. Charlotte says:

Looking forward to all the new developments, didn’t realise you had a FB page, I’ll go over & join that now!

I’m not sure whether I should be grateful to you or not though, as just this week I’ve cancelled my photographer, to change to one of your sponsors whose link I clicked on. So Chris Barber Media are now my photographers! Can’t wait!

  14. Jenny aka Gwen says:

Love the about page! It’s such a wonderful love story – how RMW was born I mean, and you both meeting when you did. I love a good love story, especially when it’s successful! Well done ladies

  15. Roz says:

Loving the pics girlies! Exciting about the sister site, how soon is it launching???

For your facebook site, can you have albums where fans can upload pics? It could fit in with your theme weeks or be of a particular style of dress or colour of flower. Would give other ladies inspiriation or something fab to copy!

  16. Anna says:

Looking fabulous ladies (and gents) as always! :D

When is the sister site launching? Can you at least tell us that? Whatever it is, I’m glad you decided on a sister site, rather than incorporating it into this one. :)

  17. Victoria says:

Ooo00ooo a sister site! What can it be?

I just want to say that your blog has literally saved me from wedding hell, its a true breath of ‘this is our wedding and were doing it our way!’ fresh air.

Keep up the good work ladies! xxx

    p.s – I get particularly excited about the little competitions/giveaways :)

  18. fleur says:

What a wonderful site this is! I heart RMW ;-) Loving the About Us section and such gorgeous pics of you all. It is indeed a wonderful little story about how RMW came to be and worth telling. Am very intrigued about the new sister site..how exciting!! It would be great if there was a chat section either here or on FB, where we could all share our experiences/dramas/finds/jolly japes and scrapes along the way to the big bday? Love the fact you’re always looking to improve an already fabby site! xx

  19. Pippypoppy says:

Oooh very exciting as always! Olivia – I have just read my copy of How to Be Married and I loved it – read it all yesterday (had a proper evening of ‘me time’ curled up with a book and a big bar of lindt…good times!) – enjoy it :-) Thanks again for that competition RMW. I’d also love a chat section aswell… xxx

  20. Lucie says:

    Hi ladies!
    Loving your work as usual.
Looking forward to seeing what the sister site is!
Even though I am a Mrs and have pretty much stopped using the ‘other’ site I always pop on here to have a look at what is going on with you two!
You both look fab in the pics and i’m off to read ‘about’! xxx

  21. Becka says:

Loving your work ladies, but very excited about the sister site.

  22. Caroline says:

It may not be what you wanted to post this weekend, but its a great read – very curious about the developments now! Thanks for such a great blog – you have become one of the sites I visit every day :)

  23. Lucy Harrison says:

Great pictures! And dresses! Are the outside shots near Afflecks Palace by any chance? It looks very familiar and I spent many a Saturday in my youth trawling the splendour that is Afflecks Palace looking for second hand Levis, band posters and general quirky things!

  24. What beautiful pictures. I have been reading your blog for a while – check out mine at http://www.britishbride.wordpress.com

    Lots of love xxx

  25. Emma Wood says:

Have visited this site right from the beginning and still loving all it has to offer, even though I have been married for almost 12 months!

Would love to see a chat section on Facebook.

Especially love the real weddings and waiting for my own wedding to appear some day soon, and on that note – would love to see more real weddings – abroad!

  26. Emily says:

    Yey! I’m really excited!

I have a feeling it may have something to do with honeymoons? Maybe?

I LOVE what you guys do, and have been reading from the very beginning.

Rock my Wedding would make an A.mazing wedding mag. All the others are pretty much .. well same old same old, full of ads and uninspiring articles.

A monthly edition of RMW on paper would be super super cool, I’d be the first to purchase a subscription!

  27. Katey says:

Ooh, been away and missed all this – how exciting!

  28. Rachel says:

    Hi Charlotte,

I work for a restaurant and wedding venue in Eltham, South East London. We regularly hold wedding fayres here, the next one is on the 20 March, I would like to know if you would be interested in writing about us, and coming down to the fayre.
We have over 200 brides on our enquiries list, and are a very popular venue in the summer for weddings. Please feel free to look at our website http://www.tudorbarneltham.co.uk

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Kind regards,
    Rachel
