Happy Tuesday fellow make-up junkies….Have any of you lovelies decided on what your pout might be doing for W-day?
A pretty pink gloss maybe? A slick of a sexy nude lip sheer?
Perhaps neither of the above take your fancy. Perhaps what you really want is something brighter, something BOLD.
And if you do then the talented Love Lust List member Jodie Hazlewood is demonstrating a few striking shades that might appeal and is also offering recommendations for alternative hues that suit a variety of skin tones.
If you are wondering who the luscious lipped model is then it’s our Lolly, and the very fancy “studio”? that’ll be the O’Shea kitchen… (just keeping it real people.)
All of the immense photography is by RMW sponsor Anna Clarke.
1. Prep lips with a lip conditioner or balm. I recommend the Body Shop Lip Conditioner or Lucas Paw Paw treatment. Massage it into the lips with a cotton bud to give them a light exfoliation
2. Blot off any excess with a tissue
3. If you feel nervous about bright colours then try a sheer finish first. I love Kryolan Lipstick Kryolan LC334 which I used on Lauren – it’s a fab pink coral and the texture is easy to wear and apply.
4. I always use a lip brush for stronger colours. Always take your time applying bolder lipstick, tracing the outside of the lips first then filling in with the brush.
5. With sheer finishes I give them a quick blot with a tissue but you will have to re-apply this type of lipstick throughout the day.
6. When using more pigmented opaque lipsticks like the second colour we applied then I tend to apply a fine layer with a brush, blot back with a tissue and then repeat this 3 times. If it really needs to be long wearing then I use a single layer of tissue and press loose translucent powder over the tissue with a brush and then repeat twice.
7. Don’t be afraid to blend a couple of colours together to create your perfect shade like we did for Lauren, just use the back of your hand and mix together with your brush.
Recommendations
I love By Terry and Nars lipsticks for their strong pigments and brave colours and if you want to experiment with fun colours from less expensive brands then Collection 2000 and MUA are great.
If you are olive or warm skintoned I suggest warm corals and bricky orange reds are both flattering for your skintone. Laura Mercier Mistress is gorgeous and Revlon Colourburst in Coral is fab.
If you are cooler skin toned then go for blue based colours. Rouge d’Armani in 400 is fab on pale blondes as is Illamasqua Plunge – a fun pop art cool pink.

Big Bright Love

Big bold lippie fan here, and love both looks on Lolly- the bright pink looks particularly gorge! I find myself wondering if I’d regret going bold on my wedding day though… I haven’t found myself worrying about the timelessness of my glittery jars, or my stripy runners for instance… but I do worry whether the bright coral lip will date. Anyone else??
Great colour. Hard to pull off but Lolly does it perfectly.
@Sama if you’re really concerned lovely why not have a mixture of photos – some with the coral lip and some where you’re wearing a softer colour – you’ve got the best of both worlds then. Personally I think you’d look gorgeous with a colour pop look!
@Kirsten as ever you are too kind!
My maids are rocking a red lip for W-Day, ranging from the classic Chanel Palpitante to YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats. I’d love to rock a red lip but the transfer factor gives me the fear. I might just take @Lolly’s advice and stick to something neutral during the day them amp it up for the evening reception!
I’m a bold kinda girl in general so will be rocking a red or deep pink lip on the big day – can’t wait for my trial to get playing!
I think if you are a bold kinda girl in everyday life why not rock your usual style – just ramped up a bit! I think timelessness is in the eye of the beholder – I think I’ll be looking back on my pictures full of sequin runners, diy glitterness and bold makeup and think “yep, its very me – timelessly me” – of course by the point i’m looking back I fully intend to be a batty old lady in leopard print rocking a deep pink lip still so everyone else may see it differently!
I love the mix of ideas and inspiration on RMW – encouraging us brides to break out of the natural lipgloss norm!
Lolly is lovely as always – spent WAY to much of my working day looking over your wedding part one yesterday! Ooops!
Pouty Pouterson! Love the last colour. I definitely want to start rocking a bolder lip. I had a gorgeous pink matt colour for my big day and loved it.
Oooh i’d love to rock a bold colour – was thinking a bright cherry red to go with my 1930s style dress but definitely concerned with the transfer factor too and my boyf always tends to side swerve a kiss on the lips when i’ve got a full pout of lippy! I do like the idea of nude and natural for the day time, then vamping it for the eve. Gorgeous Lolly – can’t wait for part 2 of your W-day!
I loved rocking a bright lip on my big day!
I never wear make-up day to day and even when I do it’s not a lot so I love to pop a big bright red or pink on my lips makes me feel like a woman!!!! And a bit sexy!!!!
Lolly you look HOT in yours especially the last colour!
@LynseyB Maids with different red lips?! That’s taking Ombre to a whole new level. Respect!
@Amanda you looked blinkin’ gorgeous as well on your wedding day – loved your luscious pout!
@AmyD thanks doll! Apologies also to your boss for ruining your productivity yesterday…oops!
Fab post lovely ladies!
I am torn between bold eyes & pared down lips or bold lips & pared down eyes!!!
I am desperate to finally have proper ‘old school’ liquid lined eyes – But I have what the OH half calls ‘cockerel eyes’ (yup he’s that charming! ha!) so struggle to make them look at all sultry!!!
But this post is reminding me why I love a good bold lippy! Just need to get my lips in tip top condition first :-/

ps. looking foxy Miss Lolly!
hot like fire la lolly!
Love it.
I’m a MAC Russian Red girl myself. Either a firey red lip or a super hot-pink glossy 80′s pout. The MAC Wonder Woman collection from 2011 had an AMAZING shade that’s still going strong!
@Becca what the hell are cockerel eyes?????
xx
@Becca @Karen merci beaucoup mes petites. But yes, what are cockerel eyes???
Bold lips make me really nervous and I never try them myself! I have such pale skin I have feel a bit…silly! I’m usually an all about the eyes kind of girl.
Maybe I’m just using the wrong ones though, maybe I’ll try again and not be such a wimp!!
xxx
P.S. I would also like to know what cockerel eyes please!!
@Karen, @Lolly & @Tabitha – HAHA! sorry it’s an obscure Mighty Boosh reference!!!
Basically he thinks I have tiny round eyes!!!
@Tabitha – if I can rock a red lippy (if I do say so myself) then you sure can!!!
xxx
@Tab – pale skin and red lips is AMAZING!! Just look at Madonna in her ‘Who’s That Girl’ phase… now that was a strong look xx
This has definitely inspired me to give bold colours a go. With my surname being Bold it would be a crime not to give bold colour a go at least once. This gives me an excuse to go lipstick shopping now doesn’t it… *all rush to say yes please*
@Tabitha I’m the same. Being so pale I always really want to give it a go and then get too scared. My friend Lucy always rocks a bright red lip and looks fabulous.
I love a bold lip and have been considering a Pink for W-day.
I have a bright fushia pink that i LOVE, its a boots 17 one in Hawaii Pink, a good cheapy to have a play around with, and I also recently bought a bright red from Collection 2000. I only wear it when i go out not everyday so cheap suits me for this purpose!
I’m going to ask to try a berry stain for w-day trial i think
MAC here I come!!
That colour suits the model so well, her lips look so defined and cute. I personally always favour a good glossy cherry or a deep wine red. macs Ruby Woo in matt seems to peel off my lips takeing every bit of mouisture with it. Collection 2000 has been the best red lipstick i’ve ever used.
@Sophie Strange Case Anyone can wear red and it would really suit your pale skin doll-face :^{|)

I’m gonna keep it neutral during the day, then after food will rock it with MAC’s Vegas Volt…. One of my bridesmaids is a MAC Russian Red girl, so I’ve told her she has to rock that to look herself too! Why change your usual look on such an important day? Be true to you! xx
Really nice post, and some beautiful images, very helpful too
Yippee!! I am hoping to rock a matte coral lip and nude eyes (with the addition of some individual lashes) for my big day..hoping it will fit in with my simple dress and birdcage veil…thankyou for the advice..great to see something different and lets face it the photo’s date anyway so be yourself on the day!
Any suggestions for matte lippy appreciated…
