Can I Ask You A Favour?

Favours.

Quite a newish “requirement” in the world of Weddingville I believe and from my blog and bridal research it seems that more often than not they are considered a right pain in the backside.

I mean do guests actually appreciate them?

And even if they do initially don’t they often get left behind?

Are they just another unneccessary cost in the endless sea of out-of-control expenditure that can sometimes be the result of planning a Big day?

Hmmm. I’m firmly on the fence with this one.

I think if you make something yourself so it’s a really personal gift or you genuinely find something that you simply adore and you feel it would add a little bit of extra pizazz to your day then of course – GO FOR IT.

Otherwise well….I really wouldn’t make it a priority.

If you are on the look out though I did have a little bit of luck on my weekend jaunt to John Lewis – I found some cute bits and pieces that if I were a guest I would love to receive.

The first one being chocolate – I mean really who can resist? especially when it is courtesy of one of the Masters of boutique treats – Hotel Chocolat

Favours-1

Tiddly Pots – great for tiny tots but equally enjoyable for adults ( I know I’ve tried them) , pretty heart-shaped lollipops ( save the pink for the girls) and my absolute fave – the “little box of love” in “Deeply” filled with 2 tiny slabs of deliciousness.

And yes they also do “Truly” and “Madly” AND…..they currently have an offer on of 3 for 2 on-line making them only £1.50 per item.

The second find was from the Queen Bee of floral fancy Madam Cath Kidston, – now addmittedly these are undoubtedly feminine options but absolute perfection for any vintage-inspired affair.

Favour-2-final

Mini “make my jacket extra pretty” badges, rose-scented soaps in gorgeous wrapping for just over £1.00 and a total dolly mixture of a compact mirror – just £1.50 and available in a few different pastel shades.

Would love to know what favours everyone is making, buying or considering and if you liked any of my selections today….

Hotel Chocolat and Cath Kidston both available at selected John Lewis stores.

As you say who can resist chocolate – especially after a drink or too!

We didn’t have favours but baked alot of chocolate heart biscuits and made up little cellophane bags (but not enough for everyone)tied with ribbon. They were in a basket and people could help then selves – they disappeared very quickly so perhaps I should have baked more…

We didn’t have the budget to stretch to the type of favours I would have liked, so I ended up buying the favour boxes from Tesco, jazzing them up with my own ribbon and tissue paper with chocolate heart truffles from Thortons (I had forgot about them until the week before the wedding!) They were cheap and easy, most people kept them and as far as I know still have them as a keep sake from the day!

I love the Hotel Chocolat chocs!

So far, my plan is to give everyone mini chocolate eggs with a note saying Happy Easter since we are getting married on Easter Saturday. The kids will prob get proper easter eggs.

Easy and should be fairly cheap! If i can get the cute mini gable boxes I have seen to put them in!

They are kind of random favours but I have always either eaten what I was given or brought home the gift so im hoping people do the same! You have just reminded me that I haven’t yet discussed this on my blog!

I found myself spending far too much time obsessing about the right favours for my wedding in August. I wanted to leave a little something on each person’s place setting but didn’t want to spend oodles on something that may or may not get eaten/taken home.
I eventually found the perfect (for us) solution. I made a donation to Cancer Research and received a name setting and pin badge for each guest. This way there was a little favour for everyone and my money went somewhere useful. My mum died of breast cancer last year and the guests who knew her appreciated the sentiment.

I have to say that I also sat on the fence with favours – unless they are food related or very personal keepsakes they tend to get left…then my fella had an awe inspiring thought: Krispy Kreme’s. The mini dozens or whatever they are called. Naturally we will be having full sized ones on the top table!

Mahj – I’m with you on the Krispy Kremes! We’re having a few dozen boxes (ie boxes of 12 not dozens of boxes – although I’m sure I’d chomp my way through them without too much trouble) at our evening do.

As for favours we’re going for mini rugby balls personalised with our names, the wedding date and guests’ names. We’re both massive rugby fans and our first date was at a match so although a bit weird it’s personal to us. Although I’m already getting visions of low-flying rugby balls round the room as the day goes on…

Its fantastic to see everyone getting involved and so many comments.

    Thats what it’s all about.
    Share the love, it’s Friday!

I’ve ‘ummmed’ and ‘arred’ over favours, and whether they worth the money? But I always like getting them at weddings so I’ve finally gone for mini Green & Blacks bars tied in ribbon with a name tag (doubling as place names), they’re currently on offer at Boots, so I’ve stocked up and saved a few quid. x

Wow so many really great idea’s, love the home baked cookies, chocolate eggs, thorntons truffles and doughnuts! Green & blacks is my favourite chocolate I think ( just the right size mini bars to not feel like a big pig :) )

Rugby balls are a great idea – really personal and the cancer research donation is fantastic, really touching and such a worthy cause.

    xx

Favours are great if you can be inventive and not spend loads. I got totally obsessed which now looking back was so stupid! An idea you might like though. we were stuck for things for men so I bought a whole load of small rubix cubes from ebay (really cheap). They fitted perfectly in square favour boxes bought from ebay and decorated witb ribbon and jewel sprays. We offered a bottle of champagne for the first person to do the cube. We had such a laugh as everyone had great fun trying and cheating!!!

I love this page and I LOVE the chocolate favours – yum.

I am also going for food favours. As we’re getting married in December and my hubby to be is Italian, I have sourced baby panettone (about 100g each) for our favours. Panettone are eaten at Christmas in Italy so the mother-in-law was duly impressed, which as we all know, is the main thing…!

    Hi

I too have uhmmed and ahhed about favours – we are supposed to be having a “budget” wedding but I really wanted my guests to have something when they sit down.

So far our winning choice is a bottle of beer – my partner’s friends with a brewer and he will give us 3 cases of our favourite tipple, we were then going to sourse labels for them. Failing that we’ll hang luggage tags on them and use for place names.
