So here you have it. Sorbet shades and a modern, bright, preppy take on Peach.

Organic Peach

August 31st, 2010

Like todays Wedding, this Inspiration Board is something of a Vintage dream. Using shades of mocha, bitter chocolate and taupe in chiffon’s, lace and tulle , it’s not short of Romance. What makes the look modern however is the rustic edge, with wild style flowers, lots of garden details and touches of fresh green. Just because you’re going vintage doesn’t mean you have to forsake the odd modern touch too, if thats what you fancy – this distinctly modern cake works beautifully with a single chocolate band and a relatively new concept to UK weddings in the escort cards, can be tied to the theme with colour and the addition of vintage lace backing.

DIY Devotee

July 23rd, 2010

It’s a quick pretty idea for your tables this week guys and something that I’m seeing popping up everywhere…. DIY Milk glass.

Milk glass is, as with all things vintage, becoming quite fashionable again, but sourcing original vintage pieces can be time consuming and expensive. Why not have a go at recycling charity shop finds and using interesting jam and sauce jars from your own kitchen cupboard to recreate these pretty tablescapes. Best of all the idea works with so many schemes. Keep it simple and all white with white glass and white flowers or make the vases the theme using pastel shades as per the DIY instructions. Mixed up white vases make a perfect backdrop for a brighter flower scheme as in the photos below or mix with mercuried silver and clear glass for a whimsical ethereal look by candle light.

I. LOVE.

For the Full DIY post and how-to (it’s super simple) visit Homelife, found via Elizabeth Ann Designs.

Meanwhile, here are a few more ideas for how you can use your DIY makes :)

Summer Brights on ElseaChelsea via Snippet and Ink.

Pink Milkglass seen on Momental Designs, White milk glass from Elizabeth Anne Designs, mix and match with clear or coloured glass (below) also Elizabeth Anne Designs.

If you’re not fancying your hand at being creative (and shame on you for not trying ;) , ) milk glass can be purchased from ebay and often pops up in charity shops. Ikea also sells lots of small white vases. If you are feeling creative, find interesting thrift pieces to do this with, pressed and cut glass look all the better for it.

Will you be trying out this weeks DIY project?

Yours Truly,

Rebecca

A Rock My Wedding Baby Shower…

June 16th, 2010

If you followed this link over from Facebook or Twitter, No, neither of us is pregnant(!), but carrying on in the theme of the week, one of our real readers, Rachael, decided to throw a baby shower for her boyfriends sister-in-law, Marsha. Rachael actually contacted me asking for some pointers for decor ideas a while back and we shared a few fun emails – I may have sent a link (or fifty) in my excitement and made her promise to share the results.

When the pictures came in I was blown away! Although we are not a baby blog, Rachael has used loads of the inspiration found on here and elsewhere to craft a DIY stylish event, and to top it all was kind enough to tell us all how to replicate some of the details. So think wedding ladies, or maybe you have a baby shower to throw and everyone can be inspired by this lemon dream.

Over to Rachael to tell all… a big thank you to her for sharing and writing down all the how-to’s. :)

Any excuse for some DIY detail!

Although baby showers are not that common in the UK – I think what better excuse to get your best girls together and celebrate the impending little one, and being a complete lover of planning and little details and all things generally lovely I set about looking for a theme that my boyfriends sister in law would like.

I settled on a spring like yellow and white theme, which lent itself well to the baby theme but was also quite stylish. After searching Etsy for my invitations I stumbled across Announcing You where I found some really cute invitations for $15 that I could print myself at home. Amber was incredibly quick and helpful and did lots of colour and font changes for me until I was happy with the result, and then I printed them out onto 6X4 plain cream cards from paperchase with matching cream envelopes. Everyone seemed to love them and they really set the scene for the baby shower.

A Sweet baby tooth

The next thing to think about was the dessert table. Inspired by Amy Atlas I spent a while researching how to put this together. A good tip is to make sure your arrangement of food is relatively symmetrical and to use different heights, as if you make it all too flat it looks more like a cake sale. Think about putting different containers under the table cloth to create different levels. I used jewellery stands (that normally live on my dressing table) to hold the lemons. My statement flowers were a large bunch of gypsophila which came to around £5.

I baked and iced all the cupcakes myself (plain with yellow lemon icing and chocolate with vanilla icing) and also made little teddy and rocking horse biscuits that I iced with roll out icing – Very fiddly!! I then trawled the pick and mix to find colour co-ordinated sweeties (white toffee bon bons and foam bananas) and used tiny meringues as a small decoration at the front.

The balloons either side of the table didn’t quite go to plan as they were meant to be filled with helium and at either side of the table just like the Amy Atlas ones. However having been quoted £20 per balloon I hunted some down on the web for £3 and thought the local party shop could fill them with helium. On the day however they said that the balloons were the wrong type for helium so I ended up having to pump them up with air using a balloon pump and therefore had to hang them either side of the window instead! Ahh well!

I also made some poms using yellow and white tissue paper and hung them at various spots around the room.

Wishes for Mum and Baby

The idea of the wishing tree is for all the guests to write a little message for the mummy to be or baby and then hang it on the tree! Its also a nice little ice breaker activity if all your guests don’t know each other.

My tree was a collection of sticks that I had foraged from the local park (!!) and spray painted white. I then used an old plant pot, some oasis (to stick the twigs in the pot) and some sparkly paper filler from paperchase to make it all look a bit glam! I made my wishing tags by just cutting them out of card and then using some small round labels that I had printed on my printer with the logo from the baby shower on, to tie everything in. I attached some yellow ribbon and made a sign saying ‘The Wishing Tree’ printed out on the 4X6 card and then framed. It was super easy!!

Seriously Sweet favours

I always think its nice for the guests to get a little thank you from the host especially if they had travelled to be there and bought a gift as all my lovely guests had. I came up with a really simple idea. I bought some favour boxes from The Tiny Box Company for 48p each and filled them with some white filler and tied them with some yellow ribbon from ebay. The favour inside was a little bear or rocking horse cookie cutter from Baby Shower Host. Again I made the favour sign on my computer and framed it with one of my picture frames at home.

For the favour labels I did exactly the same as the wishing tree labels and printed the logo of the pram onto small round stickers and stuck them to pieces of card and attached them to the boxes with string.

I hope you like my pictures!

Well I for one hope that I get to throw a super cute shower like that one day soon… Absolutely love all the paper goods, dessert table, balloons, and poms with details that easily work for your wedding.

Have you found inspiration here or do you have an event you could use Rachael’s ideas for?

Yours Truly,

Rebecca
