Maids

Maid In Heaven.

September 22nd, 2010

There is no mistaking that we have seen some pretty heavenly maids on Rock My Wedding recently. And we ( that’s Rebecca and I ) want to thank you all from the bottom of our live-in-fear-of-another-tragic-ensemble-we-might-be-one-day-asked-to-wear hearts that you are making sure your most special girls look a million zillion dollars.

Apart from my grey obsession (it’s not dissipating people, in fact its only getting worse)…. I am also more than a little bit in love with this whole nude/blush/soft peach/taupe colour palette that Rebecca touched on in her recent “Organic Peach” mood board.

So whether you are going to be a guest at a wedding soon, are looking for something special for your hen or want your bridesmaids to look almost as fabulous as you come W-day, then we have a few little items you may take a fancy to up our Blog Queen sleeves.

I won’t lie. I have this floral frock in no less than three colour ways ( check out our earlier post for the hot pink version!). And it must be the most flattering multi-function dress I own. Looks uber cute with dainty flats or chic and seasonal paired with black opaques and a slim fit cardi. Oh and I’ve seen model/actress-of-the-moment Emma Watson wear this particular peachy hue. Meadow Jersey Dress £55 from French Connection.

And if FCUK aren’t doing enough already to potentially empty our wallets ( is it me or do they have one of the coolest advertising campaigns EVER?)…. they also have this full on frothy party gown. I actually think it’s quite traditionally bridesmaid-y in terms of the shape and fabric but my isn’t it pretty. Stella Silk Dress £170.

Perfection for a black-tie affair, a contemporary city setting or indeed looking HOT on your honeymoon, Madam Millen brings sexy back AGAIN with the Sculptural Frill Dress £180. I have absolutely no excuse to buy it so if someone else could I would be ever-so-pleased……

Now don’t shout at me lovelies but……..I always think I may be a wee bit old for Miss Selfridge now that I’m um…..( whispers….. thirty) but I’ve got to tell you – they have some rather beautiful and very reasonably priced gowns going on right now.

Take this beaded cut out number for example, all that sumptuous chiffon and embroidery for just £55. I would be over the moon if a lovely bridey type friend picked this out for me to strut my stuff down the ailse.

Alternatively if there was a 1920′s/30′s themed soiree I can’t think of anything I’ve seen that would suit maids better than this nude embellished flapper frock. ‘Tis a steal at just £85.

While we are on the subject of teen-me shopping spree nostalgia, Topshop have this simple, understated pinafore dress for £30. Yup….. THIRTY QUID folks.

And of course what would be the perfect finishing touch to such a delicious array of edible shades?

Shoes.

THESE SHOES.

L K Bennet’s Idina Peeptoe……

I love you. That is all.

Anyone selecting similar items for W-day?

Grey Matters.

September 9th, 2010

It’s official. I am obsessed with grey.

My wardrobe is full of it, positively OVERFLOWING with it…… from the softest mottled marl to the deepest darkest charcoal, no matter what the weather, no matter what the occasion, I always manage to fit a piece of G.R.E.Y in there somewhere.

And after the finale of the lovely vintage inspired affair we featured earlier in the week and quite a few of you commenting on the pursuit for the perfect hue/dress combo, it seemed fitting that we had a little look see around the web and share with you gorgeous lot what was on offer.

Not sure it was such a great idea in hindsight because….. um……now I want to buy EVERYTHING we are about to show you. Why didn’t anyone tell me blogging would be so darn expensive hmmm?

Too Cool For School Grey

Perfect preppy simplicity, ideal for day wear with cute ankle boots or ballet flats and easily transformed into evening glamour with the addition of statement jewellery and a pair of killer heels.

Crepe De Chine belt tie dress Vanessa Bruno £230 also at Net-A-Porter

Melange Drape Dress Vanessa Bruno £263 at My Wardrobe

Very Fancy And I-Need-A-Second-Mortgage Grey

There is something decidedly Victorian-esque and prim about this frilly number, I want to wear it to the office with a pair of severe framed specs and go all Miss Moneypenny….Dotty Dress £239 by Day Birger Et Mikkelsen for My Wardrobe

They had a very similar black sequined number in French Connection but this DKNY embellished T-shirt version is soooo pretty ( must be the colour eh?) £245 Net-A-Porter

So simple, so chic, so prohibitively expensive …..It’s Miu Miu and my absolute favourite. I just need to sell my soul to actually have half a chance of owning it. Pleated Wool Twill £650 at Net-A-Porter

High Street Hero Grey

Perfection for any discerning bridesmaid or as part of your hen celebration wardrobe, the high street has so got it going on with grey right now.

Is there any other hue you are addicted to?

Would you max out your Visa for a thread of designer delight?

With huge thanks to Fliss from Any Other Wedding for the inspiration ( which by the way on Tuesday had an utterly beautiful account written by RMW bride Aisling on married life, I shed a tear and everything….)

Sale Steals… Maids

July 19th, 2010

Hooray it’s sale time!, in fact as they have been going on for a while now and there are actually some fabulous steals to be had. If you’re looking for chic and cool maids dresses then look no further than the high street, saving your pennies and your time.

It might seem a bit daring and not very wedding to let your maids rock the high street in a quirky look, but remember that en masse, any beautiful dress will set a theme for the day and stand out enough to look special.

Here are our top picks for every occasion…

Modern Maids

Fancy a bit of fun in your day? Looking to lose the co-ordinated look and go for all the colours of the rainbow in a jumble of love? Look no further. I’d love to see some maids in the FCUK sequined brights number. Perfect with a bright bouquet, neutral shoes and some bright hair flowers or bands. Or team a yellow cardi with the spotty number for a fun take on formal.

Maxx it Out…

April 30th, 2010

I love a Maxi dress and fortunately the trend continues this summer. With so many stunning maxi dresses hitting the shops right now, I got pretty excited realizing that they cover just about every wedding related base. The Guest, the Bridesmaid, the Honeymooner and the Marrieds…

So here’s the low down on my top picks in High Street Heaven.

Wedding Fever…

*Butterfly print dress – Ted Baker. Tropical print dress Monsoon and Navy and white Stripe dress – Coast,

If you are a guest at a wedding and it’s not a terribly formal affair why not rock the trend and wear a Maxi? There’s no need to feel informal with heels and some uber glam accessories and in fact I’m thinking of wearing one of these beauties to an upcoming wedding myself!

Boho Bridesmaids

One striking way to echo an empire or more boho feel bridal gown is to dress your girls in a similar style, try these ice cream shades for pretty perfection…. As usual I’m in love with the Yellow and would love to see someone Rocking the yellow trend this year.

Yellow dress – Ted Baker, Aqua dress – Monsoon, Pink dress – Coast.

Every type of Honeymoon

Whether you’re planning a tropical beach get-away, an all out glamour-a-go-go affair or something super relaxed after the stress of planning then something here should fit the bill. The Digitalized print here would work well both dressed up or down and is perfect for those with a larger bust, whilst I’m lusting after the asymmetric number – glamorama! Florals being a big trend, this one from Oasis is perfect for a beach cover up with a raffia cowboy hat to keep your cool.

*Digitalized floral print and Assymetric frill dress both Wallis, Ditsy print dress – Oasis.

Speak Easy…

*Equestrian detail dress – All Saints, Stripe dress – Warehouse.

Just hanging out this summer – bit of shopping? Drinks with friends on a pavement cafe? Chilled out barbeque or just like to rock your frock with a bit of edge? I’m in love with the All Saints number in particular from this little grouping. With all the leather detailing and hard colour… talk about giving a classic idea a cooler edge!

Do tell us if any of these longer numbers catch your eye and where you will be wearing it… there’s a whole Bank holiday to make a purchase! Happy Shopping Ladies…

Yours Truly,

Rebecca

The Prettiest Inspiration Board…

April 20th, 2010

After falling in love with the gorgeous colour palette from todays wedding, I thought there might be a fair few of you trying to recreate a similar look… so here are a few things I have found on the high street or around the web which could help you do just that.

Floral Umbrella from Umbrella World, Pearl and vintage flower necklace and vintage envelope clutch bag- Accessorize, Mocha Bridesmaids Dress – Coast, Birdcage Stationery – The new Silhouette range by Hummingbird Cards, and Bejewelled heels – Dune.

And for a little more dress inspiration, (or really, just because I found quite a few and couldn’t decide while I was looking ;) , ) how about these glamourous beauties from Coast (left and right) in figure hugging satin, or beaded chiffon, or a very fashion forward ruffled asymmetric from Karen Millen (center.) Your maids will thank you for it…

Happy Shopping!

Yours (fancying a latte now…) Truly,

Rebecca

The Prettiest Maids…..

April 19th, 2010

The one thing that I was ALWAYS disappointed with whilst browsing the wedding magazines and bridal stores was the selection of bridesmaids dresses on offer. At worst tragically unflattering and at best just well…..a little bit dull to be honest.

Thankfully even just a year on it seems brides are making sure their maids look magnificent in a whole host of oh-so-pretty frocks that flatter their shape and reflect their personality.

And being in the theme of pretty and all we thought we would treat you gorgeous lot to some of the loveliest ideas we’ve seen so far in weddingville that we hope will give you all plenty of inspiration for your own favourite girls come W-day.

Multi Colours

Who said Maids had to be all matchy matchy? Not us that’s for sure. Nothing wrong with tying in your colour scheme of course but how about having a little bit of variation on that colour scheme….like these little numbers for example:

*images by Juliet Elizabeth

Pinks, oranges, blues, greens? Why not mix your different shades of Jewel Tones and have your ladies in something that suits their colouring as well as your desire to tie everything together beautifully.

*images via The Brides Cafe

Are you considering a palette of soft neutrals or vintage inspired hues for the Big Day?

You are?

Gorgeous.

And even more gorgeous if you let your maids wear a super cute dress in any one of your desired shades like these soft pinks, beiges and creams.

Of course you could just decide to let your maids have free reign – the only prerequisite being “Make it sexy, make it short, make it God darn cool as hell” ….then you could end up with something like the image above.

Genius.

Just about the most unique set of maids the Rock My Wedding team have ever seen.

And of course you can make sure there is no mistaking the ailse walkers with the guests by the simple addition of a stunning bouquet.

Lovely.

Shoe Candy

So perhaps you do want to keep it all dress co-ordinated chic, no problem with that. And absolutley no reason you can’t add to a matching set of frocks some FABULOUS unique footwear.

*images via SMP, Credit Crunch Bride and by Next Exit Photography

Whether it’s some polka dot fancy, an array of their favourite brights ( which is especially amazing with black gowns as in the image here)…. or a pair of floral adored hot pink greatness then I’m sure your girls will be pleased as punch.

Not to mention the fact that if they could choose their very own piece of epic shoe candy then it takes away the whole “Should the bride pay?” issue out of the equation. Or alternatively you could offer them as a gift.

Now that is one present I’m sure EVERY lady would love.

Unique Accessories

So maybe you want to keep the dresses matching and the shoes the same and go for a more traditional route ( Rebecca and I both did after all and it was the right decision for us)…but you still wouldn’t mind adding a piece of accessory pretty to make your maids contemporary.

*images via SMP and The Brides Cafe

Now we know many of you adore a statement bobby dazzler and these chunky beads are absolutely to-die-for delicious.

Maybe you you can let your maids choose something they love and something they can wear again. I am more than a little bit in love with the pearl strands and the fact these ladies are clearly the only girls in the wedding party but at the same time clearly rocking their own sense of bejewelled style.

Same dress different belt….. LOVING.IT.

My Favourites

You know I always have them in every fashion related post folks and here they are…..

* image via Tanja Lippert Photography

Ia anyone going with a print? Can someone? Please? Pretty please with sugar on top and some sprinkles? It would just be so undeniably stylish.

Shades of grey. I can’t get away with my obsession from grey at the moment, especially as it looks so completely perfect with a white dress and well….. any other colour for that matter.

Of course if actually you want to keep absolutely everything the same for each lady then maybe consider this:

The bouquets.

Nope you don’t even have to have a different hue for each person, the same hue just a different type of flower.

Who can deny how heavenly these bunches of Hyacinth, tulips and Anemones look?

Total Bridesmaid bloom perfection.

Do let us know what pretty maid tricks and tips you have planned for your wedding and if any of the ideas in this post have given you a little bit of much needed inspiration.

We just want to make you love what you do, love what you choose and above all do what you want.

Big Prettiest Maid Love
