My Naughty Little Secret.

December 9th, 2011

You know when someone stops you in the street/Starbucks/whilst waiting for a train and says “I really like your jacket/shoes/handbag where did you get it!”, are you super flattered? I am. And actually I don’t get it much on the shoes or handbag front – if ever (sorry folks, I am clearly a failure in those areas..)

But what I do experience often (apart from howdoIgetmyhairthatkindofpurpleblondeshadelikeyours – yes really) are queries on the source of my statement jewels. It seems that I must appear to have either a) lots of dollar (um…wrong) or b) trawl unusual and trendy boutiques endlessly to find my coveted pieces (again – wrong)

The thing is folks I have a naughty little secret. I am not in anyway an accessory guru. And actually I don’t deserve any praise for the ability to purchase such stylish baubles.

I buy them from one shop and one shop only. And they are CHEAP.

It’s called Cos and it’s the “posh” version of H & M.

And the reason I’m telling you this is because not only would some of the pretty be perfect for Christmas presents (I will tell you what I have bought and for whom later in the post) but also for your best girls come W-day, both a gift AND something they can wear on the day itself.

I nearly let the cat out of the bag when people asked where I had bought the leather neck candy I wore for the Barbers pictures taken for our About page. But I think only a small mention in the comments section meant I almost got away with it.

So then, here goes – immense (and I mean IMMENSE) jewellery for minimal Mastercard battering.

The Ones You MUST Wear On Your Wrist Immediately

The Pin bracelet. There is also a necklace, both edgy, cool AND delicate at the same time. £12.

The Leather Box Bracelet. I think this would also look good on boys. £19

The Folded Bangle. When I said statement I meant it. You would literally have someone’s eye out. £12

The Box Chain Bracelet. The most beautiful shade of bronze. I bought this one for Vix (with matching necklace) for Christmas. £12

Chic, Unique and Very VERY Cheap

The Perspex Drop Earrings. I can’t explain just how cool these are. You will just have to buy them for yourself and see. £12.

The Two-Tone Chain: Are you having a grey and yellow colour scheme for W-day? yes? then you need this in your life. I get complimented on this item a LOT. And I’m not sure why but usually by those of the male variety. Oh and it’s £9. Really.

The Leather Lace Necklace: It’s back in stock people. Throw it on with a plain white T and jeans and you’re good to go. £29.

The City Charm Bracelet. This is so random it’s brilliant. It has skyscapers, cars and even a dog walker hanging from it. A lovely gift for a best girl attending a big day in the city don’t you think? £15.

I have told Vix that under no uncertain terms is she allowed to look at this post.

And I bought the pin bracelet for my best friend Sarah. And the knock-your-eye-out bangle for my sister. And that’s because I love them very much not at all because I want to borrow them.

;-)

Other things from Cos that you might like:

Ribbed Fingerless Gloves. I wear these to blog in when I’m especially chilly.

Lace Bra And Matching Panties: I am usually a plain/floral underwear girl but even I was quite taken with these. Unbelievably pretty. £25 and £17.

Contrast Sleeve Jumper. Quite possibly the greatest jumper in the world.£59.

So lovelies, ever bought anything from Cos before?

And are you going to now?

Do tell.

Twinset And Pearls.

November 15th, 2011

I don’t own any pearl jewellery. And actually I haven’t a scooby do why that is. I have a sneaking suspicion it might be because I always associated them with my Brummy Nan (whom I love to bits by the way I just don’t have any desire to follow her in the fashion stakes…) and mediocre Christmas crackers where your prize is a miniature deck of playing cards, a spinning top or you guessed it….a yellowish-hued plasticky pearl jewellery item.

As I am getting older and I hope, a whole lot wiser, I am fast coming to the conclusion that accessories including pearls are sophisticated, elegant and timeless – think Grace Kelly rather than Great Aunt Gertrude in a twinset.

It’s no secret we have had more than our fair share of beautiful brides gracing these blue polka dot pages with their pearly Queen pretty, and I know we will continue to do so. And as it’s nearly the festive season, you may be contemplating gifts (not just for Xmas but for Mother of the Bride and Maids as post-wed gifts too) and your W-day jewels may not as yet be confirmed, I thought I would share my favourite selection of pearl inspired pieces for you gorgeous lot to admire (and maybe even treat yourselves too…)

Thought I would start with something uber stylish. This is the Vintage Hollywood Deco Brow headpiece by Fabeldreams…. I would very much like to see a RMW Bride wear one please.

Delicate drops for the less-is-more bride, from left: The Samantha and the Miranda earrings both from Coast and only £15 a pair, the Eternally Classic earrings by Glitzy Secrets, a snip at just £14.

If you are in search of a little neck candy then you may fancy either the two-strand vintage inspired Vanessa or the drape-down-your-back Scarlett. Both can be found at Chez Bec.

For some feminine, vintagey and oh-so-pretty pearls then the Sophia and Lila lobe candy from Liberty In Love is delicious. And at just £39 and £30 respectively, they may make perfect gifts for your best girls too.

Now you know how we love a forehead band, particularly this one, look all goddess-like in the Mary-Ann from Flo And Percy’s Wonderland Collection. It is £175 but so worth it – could become a family heirloom it is so ridiculously lovely.

The Charleston necklace from Stephanie Browne is still one of my all-time favourites. And I would very much like it if Santa would put one on his sleigh for me…. I promise I have been a very good girl Mr Claus.

Well. Almost.

And whilst we are on the subject of Stephanie Brown these Hayworth Earrings would fit very well indeed into my Xmas stocking. They would also be the perfect accessory to my New Year’s Eve party frock…

Fingers crossed.

(Maybe I will just send this link to Mr O’Shea? you know – subtle hints and all)

And don’t forget if you want to search all things pearly on Rock My Wedding just put “Pearl” in the search box located in the top left hand corner of the header.

So then lovelies, have you chosen pearls for the Big Day? and if so, what style and where from?

Do tell.

Elegantly Ethereal.

October 11th, 2011

You may have heard of DC Bouquets before – Debbie Carlisle the founder and designer makes beautiful bouquets entirely from vintage jewellery pieces, a glitzy and uber glamorous alternative to real blooms. Just yesterday Debbie officially launched her new 2012 accessories collection and asked RMW if we’d like the first sneaky peek for our gorgeous readers…

Would we?

Why of course we would.

Especially when the pieces are elegant, feminine and oh-so fashion forward. And the photography has such a dreamy ethereal quality that you become completely lost in the images. I am also loving the fact Debbie has chosen to demonstrate each head piece with both soft loose locks and a chic sophisticated up-do.

Oh and there are statement cuffs. And you know how I love a cuff for W-day right?

I’ll hand you straight over to Madam Carlisle to take you through each luscious item folks….

Top – Mae £150: This delicate creation can be worn as a forehead band, headband, or wrapped around a ballerina bun. Pearl, diamante and glass bugle beads embellish a fine lace backing on an organza ribbon and bring high drama and glamour when worn on the forehead and sophisticated elegance worn as a band or wrap. Matching Mae cuff available.

Bottom – Natalia £145: Natalia is a stunning diamante headpiece which sits fluidly against the head in a design reminiscent of delicate lace. The soft curves created by the sparkling diamante combine to create a romantic yet striking look. Natalia comes on a comb so it can be placed in different positions – but can also be placed on a headband by request which will be wrapped with satin ribbon in the colour of your choice.

Top – Florence £160: This show-stopping diamante headpiece is designed to be worn both as a fashion-forward forehead chain and a more traditional headband. Sitting on a delicate organza ribbon, this is a really versatile piece which combines glamour with romance – wear with loose flowing curls for a hippy chick look or a more structured style to channel your inner rock chick.

Bottom – Brigitte £120: This pale ivory floral headpiece is a simple feminine piece which really plays with texture. There’s sparkle too with lots of beading interspersed with the tiny applique flowers creating a fresh bohemian look. The headpiece sits on organza ribbon and can be worn as a headband, forehead band or bun wrap. Matching Brigitte cuff also available.

Top – Eva £95: Eva is an elegant diamond-shaped headpiece which adds real vintage style to your look. Ivory pearl beads nestle alongside glass bugle beads which give a delicate warm sparkle to the piece. Eva is available on a comb or a satin ribbon-covered headband in the colour of your choice.

Bottom – Evita £120: Elegant feather-topped headband finished with a diamond-shaped design made of ivory pearl and glass bugle beads which give a delicate warm sparkle to the piece. The Eva comb or headband could be worn by your bridesmaids to complement this design.

Top – Olivia £125 (pictured with Georgina cuff £80): A vintage clip earring forms a sparkling centrepiece to this elegant design. Three delicate leaves created from glass bugle beads make up the base of this design which will be topped by a unique vintage brooch sourced to complement your dress or other accessories. Try wearing two Olivia pieces close to the hairline for a striking fashion-forward look. Olivia comes on a comb but can be placed on a headband by request.

Bottom – Rosa £110: Rosa is a delicate floral design created from silver tone glass and ivory beads and designed to sit on a comb so it can be worn with a variety of hair styles. It can also be placed on a headband on request which will be wrapped with satin ribbon in the colour of your choice – choose bridal ivory or go for a colour that tones with your hair to help the band ‘disappear’.

Top – Clara £120 : This ivory floral headpiece can be worn both as a forehead band, headband and a bun wrap – and is a really delicate but striking piece. Three large flowers sit asymmetrically on an ivory organza ribbon with an embroidered floral centrepiece on each bloom sprinkled with the tiniest dusting of glass bugle beads. Matching Clara cuff available.

Bottom – Daisy Headband £60 and Cuff £20: Daisy is a simple, fresh embroidered floral ivory headpiece which can be worn as a simple single-strand headband or a forehead band. Delicate metallic embroidery completes the look with a warm glow that would work well with silver or champagne tones. Buy two headpieces and wear together for extra glamour – this style twinned with an ‘up-do’ and an empire line gown creates a beautiful regency look. Daisy sits on an ivory organza ribbon and has a matching Daisy cuff – wear two for added impact.

The Inspiration Behind The Collection: I wanted my new collection of headpieces and cuffs to reflect my love for high glamour designs – but also to have a new focus on more delicate lace and floral inspired pieces that reflect a softer ethereal element of vintage styling.

I’ve always had quite eclectic tastes and I think my new collection reflects that – there’s a mix of Regency, 1920s, 1960s and 1970s influences in the organza ribbon bands which expands on the Hollywood glamour of my original headpiece designs.

I wanted this collection to be as versatile as possible so brides could work with different looks on their wedding day from the same piece – and also feel that they could wear their headpiece in a different way after their wedding day rather keep it locked away in their wardrobe afterwards.

I don’t like to be too literal and although my pieces have vintage elements or are inspired by vintage style, they also have a modern fashionable twist. To reflect this I chose fashion photographer India Hobson to shoot the collection and I think she did a brilliant job of capturing the essence of the pieces.

I’ve always been a bit of a rock chick at heart and I think an element of that has worked its way into my new collection too, especially in Florence – which I named after Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine – I could totally imagine her rocking this piece on stage!

I would very much like a daisy headband. Maybe even two. And to be as cool as Florence Welch, even if just for a day.

How many of you lovelies are planning on an ethereal look for the big day?

And is anyone going for some full-on cuff action?!

If you are I’d like a picture please.

;-)

Some Fancy For Your Forehead.

August 30th, 2011

What am I loving at the moment?

The forehead band. Just above your forehead, right across your forehead, vintage-inspired, statement, beautiful bohemia… I adore them all.

And Queen of the forehead band Kirstie Taylor of Flo And Percy has sent a fancy preview to Rock My Wedding of her new Magdalene Collection, which offers not only a selection of the delicious and decadent aforementioned head wear but also a whole host of other pretty accessories for W-day.

So then. Go grab yourself a Tuesday morning cuppa and take a sneaky peeky…

Kirstie Taylor Flo and Percy: For the Magdalene Collection this year I wanted to create a traditional look with a twist, so took inspiration from Catholic weddings and lace. I studied loads of religious paintings for ideas for our shoot and promo material. I loved how the light was so bright on the face with a dark background.

This year it was time to gear things up so we bought in a videographer to take a behind the scenes film as well as a film of the whole Collection which will go on our home page when the collection officially launches on 12th September. I thought it was important that our brides get to see what a headpiece looks like in action and moving around, it will really help our customers who buy direct from us. We are very excited about The Magdalene Collection and can’t wait to get a reaction from our Brides.

Anyone going to make my year and have one of these beauties for the Big Day?

And did you miss the epic Gypsy Shoot last week and want to see some more Flo and Percy items?

Ok then, here’s a little round up too:

I know. How do you even choose?!

Come back at lunchtime as we have a stunning real wedding where the bride has Flo and Percy accessorised to perfection.
