Pieces of Pretty

The White Style…

June 10th, 2011

A little while back, I had lots of fun putting together a post on spring shoes, in the hope that lots of you would be wearing bright and beautiful coloured shoes for your wedding. And I’m not afraid to admit that I had lots of you pegged completely wrong!

Tons of you are planning on rocking a traditional bridal shoe, and if it’s good enough for Mrs O’Shea, well then it’s darn well good enough for me!

So today we’re sharing a selection of pretty cream or white, elegant but decidely bridal shoes, and why not?

Designer Dreams

While Choo’s and Loubouins are often on the radar of our readers when it comes to designer style, we’ve yet to see Aruna Seth feature on these pages. Pricey but fashion forwards, there is a variety of designs, sure to keep the most picky shoe lover inspired if you’re looking for something different.

*Cerise (crystal heel), Nia (bow embellished), Samantha (metallic python) and Sheri (lace), all Aruna Seth

Rainbow Beautful

Some of the prettiest designs – particularly if you’re working a country garden theme, are to be found at Rainbow Club, in this designer collection by Dianne Hassall. The collection features sensible heels and lots of lace or floral embellishment to make your toes look very fancy.

*Flora, Violette and Sweet Briar by Diane Hassall for Rainbow Club.

Simpson Sweet

We featured Rachel Simpsons shoes in our Dolly Shoot a little while back and went for some of the more alternative black and white styles but I think her ivory collection contains some of my favourite designs. Tick off your ‘something blue’ with Mimi or wear the perennially stylish (I’m so having a moment with suede…) Marylin.

*Mini and Marylin, Rachel Simpson Ivory Collection

New Finds

One of my recent new finds is Glamorous Sole, which we spotted at the National Wedding Show last year. The designs are simple with minimal detail and might be perfect if you don’t want to detract from your dress. Who could forget Benjamin Adams? Best known for his crystal embellished peep toes, I spied these more contemporary heels for a bit of variation on the theme.

*L-R – Bologna, Glamorous Sole, Catherine, Benjamin Adams and Milan, Glamorous Sole

High Street Heaven

Sometimes I feel like a broken record, but we’ll always keep saying it: Don’t forget the high street! Particularly with the abundance of paler fashions on the catwalks this summer, there are lots of matching shoes and whilst white stillettos used to scream Essex, no-one can accuse you of being behind the times now! It’s also definately the place to stop off if you’re looking for flats, if you’re not a heel wearer, or just want to dance!

*Woven Platforms, Jewelled Ballet Flats, New Look, Next, Florie (satin) shoe, LKBennett

So have we inspired you readers?

We’d love to hear where you found your shoes – particularly if you got a bargain – we love a good bargain we do :)

Yours Truly,

Rebecca

Pay It Forward.

April 13th, 2011

These are two “Real Brides”, Lowri ( left) and Louise – two real Rosie Willett wearing brides to be exact.

And because of the hugely successful competition we held last month there are now three Rock My Wedding Rosie Willett brides waiting patiently to show off their delicious accessories come W-day.

Now I say three but actually there were four. Our first prize winner Abbi was so delighted with the promise of a headpiece and a jewellery set that after reading some of the other entires decided she needed to share the wealth.

“Hi Charlotte and Rebecca, it’s Abbi B here, the winner of the Rosie Willett pretty competition.

I am so so excited to have won, I’ve been having loads of dilemmas about wedding jewellery and I’m so so happy about the gorgeousness coming my way! I never win… So thank you for causing a big grin on my face. Rosie is clearly a creative genius.

This isn’t just a pre-emptive “thank you” email though – bear with me…
I went back to check all the comments on the competition (to make sure it was definitely me) and then I read about poor Emma… who lost the diamond from her engagement ring and now has no budget… what an absolute nightmare, this must be something we all dread. I know I’ve woken up several times with panic dreams about my beautiful ring disappearing, but luckily the dreams disappear when the alarm goes off.

And then I started to realise how lucky I am – my fiance and I have a decent budget, and I can afford to buy another Rosie Willett headpiece. And sometimes getting luck makes you want to share it, and being made to smile makes you want to pass it on.

So in short – if it’s ok by you guys and by Rosie – I’d like to share the wealth. I’m not giving up the jewellery – I definitely need that! – but could I donate my headpiece prize to Emma, to make her smile too?? And then I will just come and buy another Rosie headpiece to complete my wedding look!

I hope you don’t think me ungrateful or rude – I just want to share good fortune.

And thanks again – Rock My Wedding absolutely makes my day, I love it.

Lots of love
Abbi B xxxxx”

Queue me with a massive lump in my throat and that absolutely lovely feeling that comes with the realisation the people you have “brought together” as it were are that generous, thoughtful and kind. And that altogether the RMW community via advice, support and limitless generosity have enabled many a beautiful bride to have the day of their dreams.

Oh and of course Emma was duly contacted and will soon be the proud owner of a bespoke Sylvia flower comb in the colour scheme of her choice. We love.

And to further share the generosity with our readers Rosie is offering a 10% discount to those of you that were not on the main prize list – just enter RMW10 at the checkout on Rosie’s website, the discount is available until next Tuesday the 19th April.

This little episode actually really got me thinking, how much stuff do us marrieds keep from W-day gathering dust in the loft?

A lot I bet.

And the question is, do we really need to keep it?

The other day I was fetching down some um……shoes ( many pairs up there lovelies – sometimes just have to have a check and remind myself!) and I managed to knock a box full of “things” flying down the stairs ( yes I know – a right ruddy clumsy Madam as well as a footwear hoarder)

In the box amongst other odds and ends were a few little pieces of pretty from my own wedding, decor that is not dressing anything, just kept hidden away in the dark.

“What a waste” was my initial thought – especially as I had cracked one of my Posh Graffiti letters right down the middle. Why hadn’t I given these to someone who might have benefitted from them? And how nice to think of them making someone else’s Big Day memorable, someone who may not be as fortunate as me.

So then I really got thinking. Maybe every so often we should have some kind of sale, where the RMW community share things for free and give away big day items in return for someone elses happiness.

I’m not sure how I would co-ordinate it yet but as per usual I have a few ideas up my Blog Queen sleeves.

And as a starter for ten I am going to make sure some of my own items don’t fester in the O’Shea rafters for any longer, I am going to give away my “I DO ” letters ( a wee bit of glue and the “O” is as good as new ) some wooden hearts and some cute stands that would work for signs/and or a dessert table.

I have no idea if anyone would even want them ( O’Shea vintage perhaps?!) but if you do then just drop a comment in the box below, if there is more than one then I’ll just get out the RMW (fancy) hat.

And any ideas you have on the management of this “Pay It Forward” initiative and how it would work on RMW then your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Victoria Fergusson Accessories…

April 11th, 2011

Today, we’re sharing with you a never-been-seen-before-on-Rock-My-Wedding designer, Victoria Fergusson. I first happened across her designs last year at the National Wedding show when I was blogging live and fell over myself when I saw just how gorgeous her stand was, literally laden with pretty. Victoria got in touch last week wanting to share her newest collection with you all and of course, after seeing the super chic images, I knew they were just right for RMW.

Victoria’s range is diverse but always glamorous, whether it be vintage inspired or whimsical romance. There are hair accessories, but also more unusual belts and brooches to really personalise your bridal ensemble, with beautifully crafted pieces that perfect your look.

I asked Victoria to introduce herself and her designs to you all…

I have to admit that I am a complete bead obsessive. In fact it doesn’t stop there, I love ribbons, tulles, trinkets and trims in general. Often my inspiration comes directly form the beautiful materials I surround myself with. I love pattern and designs just start forming in my mind when I unwrap a new shaped Swarovski crystal gemstone for example.

It’s important to keep an eye on current fashion trends but my true love as far as fashion inspiration goes is the Golden Age of Hollywood and the stars of the Silver Screen. If I can recreate just a little of that glamour in my designs I’m happy.

The images here today are of the Love Story collection but the Victoria Fergusson website is a complete treasure trove of stunning accessories, with lots more stylish idea in the first Look Book ‘In the beginning’. And, Victoria is also a trained hair and make-up artist so all the images you see here today are completely her own handiwork and styling! Clever thing!

The Fash Flash: Shoe Love…

March 30th, 2011

I like to think we’re well past the days where a white satin bridal shoe was the only way forwards. In fact I think at least 50%, if not more of the Brides we see are rocking (at the very least) a metallic or nude shoe, never mind a fancy colour!

Typically as the seasons change I’m finding myself browsing the fashion online stores and seeking out the best, most beautiful heels for your special day. There are some pricey statement options in here and we’ve also hunted out some seriously special high street heros. Lose yourself in the shoe candy…

Lilac Love

Previously relegated to the doldrums of wedding colour schemes, lilac is making a reappearance on the high street and high fashion, which means in no time it’s going to be working it’s way into weddings. And why not when the candy is this good?

Lilac Studded heel – Bionda Castana

Nude Saw sole heel – Camilla Skovgaard

Purple pearl Peeptoe Platform, House of Harlow, all @ MyWardrobe.com

Bright and Beautiful

Weddings now come in all colours of the rainbow, and if you want to fill yours with all things bright and beautiful, shoes are a great way to tie the whole look in…

Selena Shoe – LK Bennett

Yellow Sandal – Karen Millen

Blue Suede Court – New Look.

And the winners of the bright section, (and perhaps the whole blog post,) due to astounding cheapness with good design credentials… The New Look blue shoe shown above also comes in an array of juicy sherbet shades perfect for maids with matching dresses or a bride wanting to pop a bit of colour into her look. We LOVE. All for £49.99!

Feeling really Brave?

We just love it when a sweet as sugar looking bride lifts that hem to reveal some fierce footwear. If studs and buckles are your normal thing, why deviate for W-day? Just soften the look with blush tones or nude shades. Of course, fierce can mean floral with these show stopping brightly printed, totally-on-the-fashion-this-season-money heels which double up as fabulous honeymoon wardrobe additions too!

Pink Studded shoes – River Island

Marylin Pointed Peony Shoes, D&G @ MyWardrobe.com

Nude Studded Heels, Sam Edleman, @ MyWardrobe.com

If you Must have Neutrals

We have gone a little left of center with the choices today… (we wouldn’t be Rock my Wedding if we hadn’t!) but not everyone wants to be different on their big day. If pretty, subtle and classic is your thing, how about some glamourous grey patent, laser cut nudes or ivory floral pretty?

Powder Celia Patent Round toe, D&G @ MyWardrobe.com

‘Vampy’ Laser cut shoe, Dune

Coast ‘Bella’ Shoes.

Spy any winners in here for your w-day? I am particularly taken by the Sam Edleman spikey heels and the Lilac lovelies at the top of the page…

Do tell us what your footwear will be and if you’re rocking something fashion forward for W-day!

Yours Truly,

Rebecca
xoxo
