Rather excitingly, today is a real Rock My Wedding DIY, or at least, a Blossom DIY. Sticking with the Peach theme, Becky from Blossom has very kindly shared a DIY how-to and some inspiration in the form of a country style peach table centre, which looks fabulous but can not only be made ahead of time, but I suspect will save anyone attempting it a ton of money.
There’s also a valuable lesson in there. Becky and I have been plotting this for weeks, but last week the markets had barely any peach flowers with the looming bank holiday and recent bad weather. Just like any DIY bride would also have to be, Becky was flexible and ended up with ‘Fiesta’ roses. They’re not strictly peach – being a gorgeous tutti frutti mix of splashed-looking petals, in shades of yellow, peach, orange and even a bit of pink. They still make a stunning arrangement and work with the theme so it’s a reminder that as long as you’re flexible, florals speak for themselves and if you can’t get what you want, there’s always a fab alternative that will still look stunning.
So on with the DIY. As always, Becky will try and pop on to answer any queries later today and if you are interested in her work check out the stunning Blossom website. (We actually plan to feature Becky’s own wedding later in the year which will be a real treat! Look out for it!)
What you will Need…
‘Hardware’
A Terracotta pot
‘Wet’ Oasis
Cellophane
Florist ‘pot’ tape
‘Foliage’
Weigela foliage (variegated)
Trailing jasmine foliage
Rosemary
Thlaspia (the frothy seedy looking stuff)
‘Florals’
Delphinium offshoots (leftover form tall spikes used in bouquets in the shop this morning)
‘Fiesta’ roses (as above)
Green Hydrangea (3)
Cream double lisianthus (2)
Scabious ‘Stellata’ (Dried seed heads) (4)
The How-To
First soak your oasis for an hour to allow it to absorb some moisture to feed your arrangement. Next line the pot with the cellophane to make it watertight.
Fill the pot with oasis then trim the cellophane flush with the edge of the pot and tape into place, (the tape isn’t essential if you have enough oasis to really pack the pot out but it does act as an extra security measure.)
Start off by creating your shape and covering the oasis and top of the pot with your mixed foliage. Any garden foliage will do – whatever you have to hand. A mixture of different shapes is good to create texture.
Place your flowers – a good tip is to start off with the largest/ most focal flower (the roses in this case) so that they are spread evenly though the arrangement.
Make sure all the oasis is hidden with foliage or flowers and you’re done!
Blossom’s Top Peachy Tips…
You could green these up quite well in advance of the day you’d need them (3 – 4 days) and keep them cool before adding the flowers the day before the wedding. Just make sure you water them to keep them going.
Pots can be decorated with ribbons, lace, painted or initials stamped on them.
You can make them in different sizes, and have just one or a collection of 3 per round table or a row of them up a long table/ along the top table.
Small stubby candles look good wedged in tiny terracotta pots as an alternative to tea lights if your venue allows and look great placed with these arrangements.
Thank you so much to Becky for her time, talent and allowing us to share it on the blog. We remain massive fans as ever and highly recommend Blossom for your wedding flowers.
Anyone doing DIY flowers and need some inspiration?
Yours Truly,
Rebecca

Ashlyn at Blossom is doing our wedding flowers in precisely 2 weeks time (eek) so this is a joy to see and in fact we discovered Blossom via Rebecca’s original blog of her wedding so thanks for that ! Can’t wait to see our flowers but I have no doubt they will be fabulous !
Oh this is such a perfect post. Forget wedding centrepieces…I’m off to Columbia Road flower market on Sunday, and these will be displayed all around casa K!
Really, really beautiful, thank you RMW Rebecca and Blossom Becky!
Hooray for flowers
Happy Friday everybody!
xoxo
Fab post ladies, loving the choice of florals and colour scheme. And may I just say Rebecca your photography skills are not half bad – maybe the RMW team should shoot a wedding?
Ha Ha!

Hooray for flowers indeed – I love this…!
One question – with the hydrangea, how do you incorporate it? Do you section out the hydrangea head and put it in in bits?
I might have a go this weekend!!
Thank you! Rachie xo
what would be good (funny) would be everyone have a go and post pictures I’ve been trying my hand at flower arranging for some time and I am bad
also sorry for not entirely concentrating probably why i’m bad at flower arranging because my mind is never quite on the task at hand but those drawers blurred behind the final picture of the bouquet are beautiful I want to look in them and they aren’t even in focus
Ooh spooky I was in Blossom the other day buying some flowers & saw this arrangement on the counter & actually commented on the unusual but very pretty roses
little did I know it was for a RMW post! I would also really recommend Blossom, both Becky & Ashlyn have been really helpful in the past & made me a gorgeous bouquet for our post wedding shoot! Happy weekend everyone xx
Ah thanks C!
Rachie – Yes you’re absolutely right, if you look inside a hydrangea head you can see it’s made up of lots of little groups of flowers, kind of like broccoli, so you can break a small group off and use them individually. Just be careful to leave enough stem to feed into the oasis and still have the hydrangea level with the rest of the flowers. This one was a whopper!
@Alice – I’d love to see everyone’s efforts – how about posting them to our Facebook page – you can put fan photos up there? Anna K too please!

I also had a long convo with Becky about those drawers – I so want some!
Ha ha Inga! How spooky indeed! Glad Becky and Ashlyn are getting lots of support – Blossom is a fantastic little place – I love doing posts there.

Love these roses, aren’t they stunning? And the hydrangeas..Yes!! Am looking on quite enviously at the step by step piccys here..hmmm…I am totally rubbish with flowers and would love to be a bit more creative on the flower front. This actually seems quite manageable! Great post & photography Rebecca
This week has been totally peachtastic. Am totally back in love with all things peach x
Aah thanks so much Rebecca! I was wondering about the hydrangea stems…
Have a lovely weekend
Rachie xo
Hello Ladies,
I’m so pleased you like the flowers. Lots of good advice in these comments.
Rachie- follow Rebecca’s excellent advice with the hydrangea and you won’t go far wrong. It doesn’t matter if your hydrangea is shorter than everything else….it will still look great in the arrangement and will quickly fill up lots of gaps. What’s most important is to get as much of the stalk as possible deep into the oasis as they are very thirsty flowers.
@Alice- you are forgiven for not concentrating entirely…..those drawers are the most talked about thing in the shop. Please feel free to pop in and have a rummage!
Hope you all have a flower filled weekend. As Anna K mentions, you really don’t need a wedding as a reason to give flower arranging a go. For those of you who think you’re not so good at it, just remember it should be fun, and all it takes is a bit of practice : )
I love this arrangement! Might have to give it a try soon. Have a real thing for roses at the moment as I’m making lots of petal confetti for the big day.
Beautiful. Blossom did our wedding flowers, and those of a friend. Both were really amazing (I know I’m biased…but they were!). This looks fab too!
