DIY Devotee

Now, I’m a bit of a geek sometimes and one of the ways my ‘geek behaviour’ exerts itself is by making me want to tie things together week by week on the blog. I like a loose theme and I get my knickers in a right twist if I can’t manage it, unless that is I just want to do something different!

So this week, following Beauty and the Beach, I was inspired by the sea, and beach/seaside styled weddings. This might just be what those of you considering a bit of beach inspiration need to get your creative juices flowing… and I love it! I might even have an inspiration board or two up my sleeve on that very subject.

Message in a Bottle

My Fan-love for Amy Moss from Eat Drink Chic knows no bounds and this project is another by Amy, but for OnceWed this time.

And do you get the link? Make tiny little bottles with cute labels, and ask your guests to write a message in a bottle for you and your new husband instead of writing in a traditional guestbook. It makes a cute talking point and adds to your general decor. Plus it’s not expensive. You can pick up small jars cheaply at The Jam Jar Shop

Thinking outside of the box

Of course, you needn’t use this for a beachside wedding, you might just love the idea and want to use the pink and girly hearts provided as part of the templates, or on the other hand, it might not be beachy enough for you…

How about adding some sand to the bottom of each bottle to add a castaway feel? Change the colour of the twine to ribbon matching your colours, or extrapolate the idea by making your own tags and notes to place inside on appropriate paper and using a beach themed stamp in appropriate colours to embellish them both.

The full post contains more ideas on how to make this yours and suggests using them as messages to your guests. Head on over to Once Wed to check out the full DIY how-to.

Can you think of a way you would use this or style it to fit your day?

And are you having a beachy/seaside wedding and struggling to make it chic and unique? Send us your dilemmas and we’ll try to help out!

Yours Truly,

Rebecca
xoxo

love these! I might use them, I’m putting the guest book on a table with lots of different pens, pencils, stamps etc to make the guest book a bit more interesting? I was going to put the bits and pieces in jam jars, so I could decorate the jam jars with these labels to make them look prettier! x

  2. I would SO have done this. I would then have kept the pretty jam jars filled with messages around the house as a lovely reminder.

How cute, I think I might be able to use this on my ‘guest book’ table too as we’re having individual cards for people to write on and I’ve got a large vase to put them in, this label would look lovely tied on some ribbon around the neck. Cheers Rebecca!

    Ooooo… I am loving this.
Our travel heavy honeymoon extravaganza could probably do with a hint throughout the wedding and a message in a bottle idea is an amazing way of tying that together!
    Thankin you xo

We’ve been deliberating about guest books H2B’s is not really a fan, but might be able to convince him to do something quirky instead! A huge jar, like we make our sloe gin in, would be great for all our guests to pop their messages in! Thanks for the idea!

I am doing a message in a bottle guest book at my wedding next month! It’s such a great idea! I’m trying to come up with a creative little instructional poem so that the guests aren’t confused about how it works, but I’m having a REALLY hard time. Any suggestions are helpful! thanks!
