Planning

Ribbon decor always sets my heart a flutter, and the fabulous altar backdrop at this outdoor woodland ceremony looks utterly immense. As does all the other DIY decor adorning the rustic barn reception, which the Bride did herself I might add. I have a feeling Shutter Go Click Photography's job was made very easy with the picturesque surroundings of Camp Katur. Each image looking so enchanting and pretty. Telling the story of Eleanor and Rob's romantic and fun filled wedding day perfectly.

The Dress

Eleanor the Bride: I choose my wedding dress because I love all things vintage, my house is full of vintage charity shop fines and I love vintage style clothes! So I knew when it came to picking my wedding dress I would have to find a 2nd hand beauty! Glory Days in York is amazing, you go into a room and there are rails and rails of vintage gorgeousness! I was in my element; it only took me 20 minutes to find the dress! Obviously my accessories had to be vintage too, I went for an over the face veil and a bespoke handcrafted head piece from Vintage Bridal Millinery, I loved my whole look, when it came to my wedding day the whole outfit felt ‘very me’ just what I wanted! And it was even better knowing that no other bride would have my dress.

Bridesmaids

For my bridesmaid I choose ASOS, they do such a beautiful bridal range and don’t charge over the odds like bridal shops! Bridesmaid’s dressers are so old fashioned in the traditional bridal shops and cost a bomb! I and my maids choose a mint green dress for them to wear on the day and they looked stunning!

Venue

The venue…I knew as soon as Rob popped the question that I didn’t want a ‘normal’ wedding, so as soon as I found Camp Katur I knew I had to visit! I, Rob and Bertie (our son) went to visit and fell in love straight away, there was a wood! With an aisle! And a beautiful barn. Everything I wanted and more, we booked straight away. The woodland area was perfect, we love the outdoors, having a little boy means we spend lots of our time in garden, on days out, walks in the wood……so I just knew I had to have my big day in the woods, with my little boy walking down the aisle behind me carrying a stick and kicking up the leaves in his Converse! However when it came to the day he slept through the whole ceremony and didn’t get to walk down the aisle – ah well! It was magical all the same.

Décor

The décor to me this was the most important part of my day. I wanted to make everything! Obviously I realised this was impossible, having a son doesn’t allow time to be sat crafting away all day long. However I made as much as possible, all the signs, the table decorations, the favours, the confetti, the LOVE sign down at the woodland area, the card rack, the pots…pretty much all of it to be honest! I love crafting, I’m at my happiest when I’m sat making something…I love it! Seeing everything on the day made me feel so proud and hearing my guests comment on the décor made me so happy! All those late evenings were worth it. My Grandma and Grandad also helped with the DIY décor, my grandma crocheted mint and coral (my wedding colours) granny squares and a made a crochet garland that went round the bar in the barn and across the table down at the woodland area. My grandad made all the signs for me using wood from his shed! Legend.

Advice

One piece of advice I would give would be to take your time when making things yourself, don’t rush, it’s your big day and you don’t want anything to look rushed or half done, taking your time and making sure things are perfect is key, it is your wedding after all.

Photography

The photographer was Ryan at Shutter Go Click, honestly the nicest guy you will ever meet and a seriously MINT photographer! From the minute we met him at The Hop in Saltaire we knew he was the one, we got an engagement shoot as part of the wedding package and he took some awesome shots of us at the railway museum in York, they made us so excited for the wedding! On the day he was amazing, making sure he got every shot I wanted, after seeing the photos I know we picked the perfect guy! We love them.

Ceremony

Our ceremony was written by the lovely Jan at Celebration Ceremonies, she met with us months before the wedding to get to know us and find out what we wanted the ceremony script to include and she couldn’t have done a better job, it was perfect! Everything was so personal to me, Rob and Bertie! We had readings about family and talked about how me and Rob met, then became parents to our beautiful little boy! She did an amazing job! We had our hands fasten at the end (me, Rob and Bertie) and it was such a beautiful moment that I will treasure forever! I thought the whole hand fastening thing sounded a little bit pretentious and hippy-ish (something we are not) but it was perfect! Using an old radiohead t-shirt given to me by Rob when we first got together 8 years ago we were bound together as a family, a family of 3! Soon to become 4 in April 2017! ☺ yay !

Desserts

Lastly how cake and desserts were made by two very talented ladies from Bake My Day, that literally live around the corner from me. When I met up with them they were just running their business from their home but now they have a shop and are busier than ever! They did a fantastic job listening to my every requirement, every single guest commented on how beautiful the cake and desserts were! I would choose them again 1,000 times over.
