Excess Baggage

Hi Everyone!

Here is my demonstration of how to make your peepers prettier for ladies who like me suffer with tired looking red lids and bluish circles. I cannot promise to perform miracles but I can try and help them look better!

Firstly always use a good eye moisturising product, if you don’t suffer from dry skin a gel/serum will suffice if you do a richer more hydrating cream will work wonders.

I need to take my own advice here as I have NOT been applying my eye cream and my eyes are a tad on the dry side. You will see from one of the pics actually where I have “finished” and my eyes look a little flaky. I did think about asking Charlotte not using this particular image but this is real life – I am not a supermodel…..

Neither did I think photo-shopping them all would really be of benefit to you either ;-)

If you do find that after applying concealer it is a little heavy/flaky/cakey then just apply the tiniest drop of your cream/serum on top and pat gently.

My Kit:

Con-product

1) Creamy concealer palette by Arianne Poole
2) Concealer brush by Estee Lauder
3) Christian Dior skin flash

The trick to getting the perfect finish I think is to use both a “coverage” concealer then a “lightening” concealer on top – that way you get the veins and redness covered and the youthful brightness.

Con-1

Apply 3 to 4 small dots of the coverage concealer onto the circle and blend well using the brush. If using your finger then be careful to pat and not rub – rubbing will just take the concealer off again!

Apply 3 to 4 small dots across your lids to reduce redness ( this will also help shadow to adhere if you are going to wear it)

Con-2

Apply the lightening/brightening concealer ( I am using the Christian Dior but YSL touche Eclat is also good for this)…. onto the eye circle and inner corners, pat gently into the skin.

If like me your eyes look a little dry don’t be afraid to apply some gel/cream on top – a little bit will not smudge the make-up.

If anyone would like to recommend some great eye creams for winter I would really like to hear about them. My eyes are very sensitive so a lot of these expensive scented versions make them sting and subsequently worse.

A smokey eye coming next!

Melissa x

Is the CD skin better than YSL then or are they both as good as each other? I use the no.7 version but it doesn’t last very long

Probably a really stupid question but in which direction should you pat the concealer/eye cream etc? Towards the inside or outside of your eye? I’m never really sure so I just pat it in either direction and hope for the best. I’m sure I read that you’re not meant to rub the skin in one direction though, I just can’t remember which! Eek…I’m probably causing extra wrinkles or something!

As for eye gel, I use a bog standard Olay one. It’s pretty much unscented and is always on offer in the shops. It leave my eyes feeling ok though xx

I use Origins Youthtopia eye cream which is unscented and does the trick. The girlies on the counter will be able to give you a sample to try.

And Miss P I personally prefer the Dior Skin Flash to YSL’s touche eclat. x

    Hi Ladies!

H – I tend to pat “downwards” so in neither direction as such ( does that make sense!?) If you are unsure a brush is a good investment – especially to get really underneath the bottom lashes.

Generally the beauty peeps advise against rubbing the eye area as the skin is so thin and fragile -when applying make-up, creams and taking make-up off ( I am guilty of this too – especially when I am wearing a lot, I rub far too hard)

Alex I will have a look at the Youthtopia one, unscented is perfect for me!

I am in camp YSL and Charlotte is in camp CD :) I think it depends on your skintone and coverage preference. The YSL is slightly heavier I would say and more pinky in tone to the CD.

    Thanks for your feedback

I used be firmly in the YSL camp but have recently discovered La Prairie Light Fantastic and I think I might be switching camps! It seems to have a slightly heavier coverage than YSL.

Brideandchic – I have to say that is a brilliant product, unfortunately it is a tad dark for me even in the palest shade.

I am indeed in camp Christian Dior although I have made an amazing bargain discovery of late courtesy of one of our writers Jenny – L’Oreal Touche Magique.

    It is fabulous!

I too am a devotee of Origins Youthtopia but Alex have you used their new GinZing eye cream? It seriously makes my eyes feel like they’ve just drunk a smoothie and been to the gym, all before 7am…

  8. Alex says:

Ooh Anna K sounds good I will definitely give GinZing a go – generally adore Origins products! Their Ginger products are almost edible.

Melissa – forgot to say L’Occitane are also good for unscented products. (They should also have a few cheeky testers for you to pinch). And can’t rave about their Shea Butter enough it is a-mazing for eczema/ burns etc. 100% pure and lasts an age. x

Great concealing advice Melissa, your eyes don’t look at all flakey silly x

It’s all about the Touche Magique girls!

I’ve got some Mac Studio Sculpt concealer with a concealer brush to cover dark circles and spots – i’m prone to hormonal breakouts and this covers it immaculately

But ultimately it’s Touche Magique all the way. It pee’s all over the expensive ones.

Give it a go, for £6 you can’t grumble really. (you can thank me later :o )

    xx

It’s no big budget cream but for me – it’s fantastic! I am strictly a body shop eye cream girl. The vitamin E one is great. It comes in a cute little pin container too…. cheap and leaves me feeling VERY cheerful!!!
