We feature a lot of weddings on RMW that are just a little bit different and that often leads us away from the classic. And we know that not everyone out there reading wants their wedding to be ‘different’. Some people just want pretty with a capital P, simple and timeless.
So today’s all-white wedding is all about the pretty. Staggeringly elegant with a stunning bespoke gown, Bridesmaids sweet as lemon drops and a vanilla ice cream reception palette, topped off with old school penny sweets, this is a literal feast for the eyes.
Let me hand you over to our drop dead gorgeous Bride Naomi to tell you all about the day.
All photography by the talented Rebecca Honeywell.
The Proposal
We planned our wedding from afar, having moved to Sydney nearly three years ago, after both being offered jobs there. After Robin popped the question in Koh Lanta, Thailand, after walking along the beach at sunset, I ecstatically said YES! He had chosen the most beautiful ring and I couldn’t wait for him to be my husband. We both knew from day one of our engagement that we wanted to get married in Scarborough, my home town where I had grown up and my parents still lived. We wanted to be able to share our special day with all of our loved ones, although it meant leaving some very special friends behind in Sydney.

I hired LaurenSally from Leeds to do my makeup, who was amazing. Not only did she do beautiful makeup for my bridesmaids and I, but due to a little hiccup with the tables in the morning, she helped lift and move tables too! She was a true super star!

Dressing for the Day
I choose my bridesmaids dresses, based from my favourite dress I have ever had, - a pale lemon colour, one shouldered Grecian style. I wanted them to wear something that people would think was my style. I HEART floaty dresses, and these dresses were just so beautiful I wanted to wear one myself! When my bridesmaids put their dresses on it took my breath away, they are all such different colourings but looked amazing.
My two nieces were my flower girls and about 1pm they toddled down the big stairs in their floaty silk dresses that were from Tea Princess – they were possibly the cutest little girls ever! They both carried a teddy bear down the aisle. We bought one for each of them because it was the first ever present Robin bought me, and I have loved it everyday we have been together.

Something old, Something new…
My mum put me in my dress which was a very emotional moment for both of us. She told me how much she and my dad loved me and that they knew Robin was the perfect man for me and that they knew he would look after me. She gave me a 1920’s vintage watch which they had bought in Sydney when they visited earlier in the year, for my something old. It was beautiful and delicate and looked perfect with my dress. For my something blue I wore a blue garter that Helen my chief bridesmaid had given me on the morning of the wedding, soo cute!

The Dress
I helped design my dress with Karen Willis Holmes, I took her lots of images of gowns, and she came up with something floaty while still being flattering. All through the process I wanted it to be off the shoulder, and I love the Grecian style so we incorporated this in to the straps. It was amazing, and different to anything else I had seen. She listened to everything I wanted, and I knew I had chosen the right dress maker when I found her in Sydney, then realised she was actually from Scarborough, I thought it must have been fate! I wore silver strappy shoes in the style of vintage ball room shoes, which looked amazing.
I had my hair set in rollers the morning of the wedding and I purchased a huge silk white flower from Etsy that was clipped into the side of my hair and the rest of my hair was pinned to the other side.
I carried a very small and delicate bouquet of stephanotis and nothing else, they were white and completely understated, I didn’t want anything that would over power my dress. My amazing florist from Hearts and Flowers had to wire each individual flower the morning of the wedding – luckily we didn’t get married till 2.30pm!

Then my carriage awaited…quite literally! My Dad and I were taken by horse and carriage to St Matthew Church in the quaint village of Hutton Buscel. With a black glass frontier carriage and two beautiful black Friesian horses we stopped cars and people clapped and waved as we trotted to the church. As we approached the church I could hear the church bells ring and I tried to remember every second of the moment….
It has to be said, I’m a huge fan of a classic white wedding. And this just pushes all my buttons. What a dress! The one shouldered lemon yellow Bridesmaid gowns are perfectly chic and unique and don’t even get me started on that bouquet, the illustration of simplicity.
Pop back tomorrow to see the gorgeous ceremony, sweetest reception details and more of our gorgeous Bride Naomi.

I have to agree with the other 2 posts. Those BM’s dresses are faboo! The ultimate mix of pretty, elegant and chic. Plus I am a sucker for all grecian style, having a couple of dresses myself.
