Inspiration

I never thought I'd say this but how beautiful is the fog and cloud at this wonderful Norwegian wedding, coupled with Christin Eide Photography it has given a gorgeous mysterious feel to these images that are incredibly romantic. Also making me sigh is Bride Jannikke's bridal outfit. It begins with he dreamiest of tulle skirted gowns from Watters and also includes a Pronovias veil and Valentino Rockstud shoes. And not to be out done by the ladies are the groomsmen in fabulous tuxedo suits, talk about squad goals. I have never seen a rustic barn looking so elegant either, the soft candlelight centrepieces, gorgeous wedding stationery and DIY decor bring the room alive.

About Us

Jannikke The Bride: I was introduced as the new brand manager at the office where Henrik worked as an analyst back in 2013. After seeing my photo in an announcement at the office intranet, Henrik was convinced that this was the woman of his dreams (Henrik's words):) We got along very well from the start, and I thought Henrik was one of the nicest guys I had ever met. He did his best to make me feel appreciated and confident, which ment a lot to me as I felt like a rooky in my first real job after graduating. When easter came, he invited me to go crosscountry skiing with him as we where both spending our holidays in the mountains. The beautiful white scenery and sunny blue skies made the perfect surroundings for a first date. We fell in love and have been together ever since.

Proposal

Henrik proposed by the fjord in Western Norway at the summer house of my family. The day after the engagement, we traveled to New York. Since we landed on the 4th of July, the city welcomed us with an amazing firework display as we drove over the Manhattan Bridge. Setting the scene for a perfect engagement-moon.

The Venue

As I am originally from Bergen, we decided to get married there. We loved the idea of a barn wedding as this suited our wishes for a romantic and not too formal wedding. A rough barn is also a blank canvas for decorations. This suited me perfectly as I wanted to add a personal touch to the venue. The reception was held at the barn in Hordamuseet, which is a park outside of Bergen.

Dress

It was important for the me to find a dress that matched the theme of the wedding. I first saw the Willow by Watters Amelie dress on Pinterest, and after trying it on I was convinced it was "the one". The flowy tulle skirt and the delicate lace top gave the perfect romantic look for a barn wedding. The nude lining softened the white colour against my fair skin and strawberry blonde hair. Three-dimensional floral appliques on the bodice and pearl buttons down the back was the cherry on the top. Paired with Valentino Rock Stud shoes in nude the look was given an edge. The veil was made from the same soft tulle as the skirt and was made by Pronovias. Hair and makeup was done by Vouge Bergen and nails by Frøken Reykjarvik.

Groom

The groom wore a tuxedo by Hugo Boss.

Decor

Flowers played a central role in decorating the barn. They were displayed in old jam jars, milk vessles and zink tubs. The flower arrangements were asymmetrical and looked like they were hand picked from a wild garden. As was the bridal bouquet. The colour scheme of the flowers was white, blush and light blue. The talented Stine Vikne did the flowers. White linen pennant banners, rustic string lights and white balloons decorated the ceiling. Together with a lot of candles and lanterns both outside and inside, setting the mood for the celebration. The stationery and other decor elements came in laurel green, white and black. A gender neutral combination that suited both of us. The stationery was bought at Weddingpaper Divas and was designed by Whitney Port. Place card calligraphy was done by Ina and the olive tree.

The Wedding Party Fashion

Groomsmen and bridesmaids wore outfits of their own choice. It was important to us that the wedding party felt comfortable in their clothes and got to express their own personal style.

Ceremony

The ceremony was held in a local church. Highligts from the ceremony included friends of ours performing John Legend's All of me in Norwegian and A place to call home by John Mayer. The ceremony started a bit too late because I left my bouquet at the hairdresser and had to drive back for it:) After the ceremony we were showered in dried lavender buds (it smelled lovely) before we drove away in a vintage volkswagen beetle decorated with flower garlands.

Entertainment

High light of the evening included Henrik's beautiful speech to me and 11 of the my girlfriends performing an amazing show including a studio recorded song made especially for the us. The band Say No More played after dinner. We had wanted live music to set the mood for barn dancing. We danced our first dance to Come Dance With Me by Kurt Nilsen. After that the dancefloor was packed the whole night, just as we had wished for. Signature drinks, Henrik's GT and Strawberry Blonde (Moscow mule) were popular choices at the bar along with Henrik's home brewed beer -  brewed especially for the occasion. A white wedding cake sprinkled with fresh organic flowers and a candy buffet made sure to keep energy levels high for the dancing guests.

Photographer

The very talented Christin Eide made the day look as magical in the photos as it was to us.

Advice

- Start planning as far in advance as possible. Avoid having too much to fix right before the big day. The sooner you can tick of boxes on your list, the better.  - Plan for all kinds of weather - Be true to your style down to every detail if possible, but remember that you probably will be the only one paying attention to every little thing so do not exhaust yourself - Don't worry if you can't sleep the night before your wedding. You will have plenty of adrenaline to get you through the day anyway - If you want a great party then good music and drinks are essential. The party will not be more fun than you make it yourself, so make sure to work that dance floor and others will follow your example - If possible, go away on your honeymoon right after the wedding. You need the time to reflect, rest, and just be newly weds.
