Ever since I can remember I have been obsessed by two things.
Lipstick and Coco Chanel.
There is something incredibly sexy about a woman applying lipstick, I know we seem to be in the age of the “gloss” but for me…. nothing beats a slick of genuine waxy loveliness for enhancing your pout.
As for Coco Chanel? Well my Nan always says “Wash your face with nothing but warm water and a flannel love – it’s what Coco Chanel used to do”
And so my research and interest into Mademoiselle Coco and the iconic double ‘C” branding began….
In a bid to make me RIDICULOUSLY overwhelmed with excitement in recent weeks then Chanel has launched “Rouge Coco” which in my opinion is lipstick perfection. Not to shiny, not too dry, not too opaque, not to sheer, not too heavy.
Just divine in a tube. And a beautiful slick black and gold “satisfying click” tube at that.
I swear to you ladies – if you want to invest in one new make-up item for W-day go visit your nearest Chanel counter pronto. You won’t be dissapointed. There are 36 shades on offer covering pinks, beiges, reds, browns and corals – there is sure to be the Big Day shade for you.
And my favourite? why the actual “Mademoiselle” of course. A suit-all shade of nude delight.
And the muse behind the design? the stunningly chic and unbelievably beautiful Vanessa Paradis. She was my first girl/fashion crush….. It was the 12 year old me having just watched the “Be My Baby” video for the first time. The beginning of my love affair with all things bohemian.
( go check out the video on YouTube if you have a minute, the make-up, clothes and accessories are still to-die-for now even 18 years on. Promise)
And if you’re not particularly interested in music video’s circa 1992 but you are a lipstick/Chanel/Vanessa Paradis fan then you MUST check out this – I genuinely thought it was really fascinating ( yup I am a bone-fide cosmetics geek)
Anyone else in favour of lipstick over gloss?
Have a make-up brand you are obsessed with?
Then do tell. Would love to do a feature.
Big Coco Rouge Love

Oooh me me me! I am obsesssed with Chanel make up! Even their packaging is gorgeous. My vices are their foundations, their eyeshadow palettes and their blushers (which smell as fab as they look!). I was lured to lipgloss from lipstick a few years ago, but wedding planning saw me hop back over to the lipstick camp where I have ‘stuck’ since!
Great, now I’m going to have Joe Le Taxi stuck in my head all day long. Thanks a lot!
What an awesome little video. The way he says “Rouge Coco” makes me wish I was French.
I am a much bigger fan of lipstick over gloss – especially for your wedding day with all that kissing!
I’m more of a fan of Vanessa’s husband personally!
I am make up shopping this weekend in fact and may have to purchase a Chanel lipstick. I personally love the Clarins lip glosses, they stay on well and have a lovely sheen to them but aren’t sticky at all. I currently have 4 different shades and used one for my wedding day!
Water girl – yes you will Pet. And I have been singing Be My Baby since Monday
Hally – I could spend hours at the Chanel counter, I love EVERTHING about their packaging. So glad you are a lipstick convert!
Laura – I know tell me about it. I want to be french too, the woman are so deliciously sophisticated and polished.

Charlotte….I feel I must point out, given that you have just celebrated your 30th birthday and you would have been 12 in 1992, that the Be My Baby video was 18 years ago. Not 28. I’m annoyingly anal like that….couldn’t just let it lie. I’m sorry!
Cracking post, I got a sample of a Chanel lipstick in a BM goodie bag recently and this has made my mind up-I’m going to upgrade it to a full size this very weekend. Yay!

Aisling – You are quite right Hun, although I hope that was me and a typo error not just tragic maths!!! Have updated it.
…I am going out this weekend to get MORE
Lucy – Right I am checking out those Clarins glosses!

Love the post! Really love Peter’s accent in the video clip and the bit where he said ‘saying rouge coco is like blowing a kiss’. Think I will go buy one tomorrow at lunch! x
oh dear, I’ve fallen in love… caught up in the romance of it all… I’m not much of a make-up junkie, but now NEED some rouge coco in my life!
oh dont even get me started. I have an obsession with the chanel 2.55 jumbo handbag. I currently have a chanel handbag fund and im hoping to fullfill my lifelong dream when we are in vegas at the end of our moon! OH thinks im mad, I keep telling him its timeless and its for life….god im dreaming again
Freaky, I bought the lipstick at 12.17 at lunchtime!! I got it in a red, tres inspired by rebecca’s post on pucker perfect lips!!
I’ve been searching for the perfect foundation for months though, Chanel just don’t do my colouring. Mare. Tried every counter in selfridges. Boo hiss.
Maybe amtoo fussy!!
By the way, would love to know if you ladies can recommend any good eye creams/gels – the skin around my poor peepers could do with some major re-hydration, and I don’t want to end up with crows feet at the tender age of 22!
ooooh….Sarah, you should try the Soap and Glory Eye Eye Gel. It’s fab, comes in a proper sized tub and has a little bit of a sheeny/light reflective quality to it.
Super moisturising and really great for taking the edge off those icky bags. I’m 22 as well and it’s mighty depressing needing eye gel!

Thanks Aisling – have put it on my shopping list!!
I had some of their moisturiser etc for christmas and it was lush, so I’m sure this will be too!

Once more, thanks to RMW, my pocket is a little lighter after purchasing rouge coco no.19 today, a gorgeous gorgeous bright red, which is a total change from my usual neutral gloss – I love it! xxx
Hi Girls,
Just wanted to say I am a massive Chanel Fan. I was at the counter just the other day, and the lady said she would book me in for a free Make over, mini manicure and a perfume consultation, all because I am 25 and they are trying to promote a new Chance fragrance. Looking forward to 22 April!!!
