Inspiration

We love it when couples find their dream wedding suppliers via Rock My Wedding, and we're pleased to report that Megan & Martin found photographers, The Barefoot Brunettes, following this gorgeous real wedding feature. Megan and Martin's big day is totally different to Lia and Rob's - apart from one thing, both couples have a dreamy set of images to remember their big day by. This is a classic Scottish country house wedding, with the boys in kilts and the girls looking super glam. Megan's 'getting ready' shots are simply beautiful and we can completely see why guests think these images belong in Vogue...enjoy!

The Bride

Megan the Bride: I literally tried on 100 wedding dresses before I found "the one". My lovely mum, who came with me to every appointment was so patient and drove me around the whole of Scotland! Eventually I found my dress in Glasgow, at a store called Eleganza Sposa. My dress a was Made-to-Measure, bespoke Eleganza Iconica gown called La Bella Addormentata. It was heavenly! The minute I tried it on I was in love and my mum cried (probably with relief)! We'd never seen anyone wear anything similar and the fact that it wasn't white made it even more magical. I literally felt like a Disney princess. My flower girl dresses were also bespoke and designed to match my dress! The two flower girls, Lily 6 and Gracie 2 were beautiful. My veil was also bespoke and made to match my gown, it was so delicate and I loved the floral detail. My shoes were Jimmy Choo and I wore my mums pink pearl and diamond earrings. I decided to wear no other jewellery as I felt the gown was so detailed that it didn't need any other additions :) There was such a calmness at my house whilst getting ready and me and my sisters, mum and best friend were so relaxed. The morning goes by so fast! My bridesmaids were in white and I loved it. It looks so elegant and the colour of their dresses looked beautiful against my oyster coloured gown. Their dresses were from Debenham's and were part of their bridal range.

The Groom

Being Scottish, Martin didn't consider any other option than a kilt. His kilt was also bespoke and was made by MacGreggor and MacDuff kilts. Martins groomsmen (all 7 of them!) also were kilts, hired from the same place. My mum had bought Martin a pocket watch which had our names and wedding date engraved.

The Venue

The venue was called Lochgreen House Hotel in Troon, Scotland. It's a beautiful luxury country house with stunning gardens near the sea. We decided to get married in the venue and hired out the restaurant for the ceremony. Although it was an additional cost, it was worth every penny as the room looked stunning with the large chandeliers and light streaming in at every angle. The gardens of the venue were stunning and we (surprisingly) got a sunny day, with lots of photos outside. A lot of our close friends and family stayed with us at the hotel, so it was so lovely to wake up the next day and re-live some of the special moments together!

The Decor

The venue is stunning, so didn't need a lot of extra detail, so we chose lanterns as our theme. I bought lots of lanterns from IKEA and other little gift shops and placed them all over the venue. As my dress was oyster colour so the colour theme was champagne, ivory and blush pink. The colours really complimented each other and felt so soft. My mum helped me with all my decorations and stationery. She made all my invitations, menus and order of service. The theme for these were fans and she cut out each invitation with pearlised champagne paper in the shape of a fan! They were beautiful and we were so grateful to her for all the time and effort she put in. My mum also make our wedding cake - it was designed to match my bouquet and she made all the flowers by hand - she is amazing! She learned to do it for the wedding. We also had Kate Spade cake knife ?

The Ceremony

The ceremony was so beautiful, our minister made it very personal and made some jokes about martin and I. My mum did an alternative reading by Liam Neeson (we think he wrote it in reference to his late wife Natasha, - it went along the lines of "love is the only thing in this world that does not hurt". There was definitely some tears!

The Entertainment

During the service, reception and meal we had a pianist called Alex Graham. He is fantastic and plays everything by ear. At night time we had the most amazing band called the replay (or the replay music group) and we also had a ceilidh set for 45 mins. The dance floor was full all night!

The Photography

Our photographers were the magical Barefoot Brunettes, Abby and Tamryn. We made the decision three months before the wedding to cancel our other photographer and go with these girls after having seen them on RMW. They did not disappoint! We are in love with every photo, and feel like we have the opportunity to re-live every moment through our pictures. So many people have commented on our wedding pictures and how they are the nicest they have seen - many say it's like a Vogue shoot! To top it all off they were so nice and made Martin and I feel so comfortable throughout the day.

The Transport

Our wedding cars were vintage and were from AA wedding cars from Kilwinning in Scotland. I travelled down to the venue with my dad and it was lovely to spend some time just me and him.

Final Thoughts

Our wedding day was simply magical. It was such a happy day and Martin and I wouldn't have changed a thing. My advice to other brides and grooms is not to stress! We didn't. We were super chilled and relaxed. So long as you have each other and the main things (venue, band, photographer) are sorted then the little details fall into place! Having all your friends and family in one place is so special, so cherish it!
