Natural L.O.V.E

If it’s one thing Rock My Wedding certainly is this week it’s full of variety. We gave you D.I.Y Delicious on Monday, Lebanese Luxe Tuesday and Wednesday and for this Thursdays treat folks we have the epitome of Eco Chic.

Matt and Lizzie married in May 2009 at The Vineyard Church in Hull with a reception at the Endsleigh Centre. The so-in-love couple manged to pull together a relaxed, fun and pretty affair with a ton of re-usable decor and an environmentally aware approach.

The lovely Lizzie has sent us all of her you-can-do-it-too planning detail which is definitely worth a read.

All of the beautiful images are courtesy of Olivia Brabbs Photography with some particularly A.mazing “capture the moment” eye candy. Hankies at the ready girls.

Love at First Sight

I bought my dress the day after we got engaged, half an Hour after graduating from uni, from monsoon, saw it and loved it and it fit me. I wanted to feel like me on the day, not a cross between a meringue and a toilet roll holder so simple was best for me. I’m looking into turning it into a pretty little dress, quite exciting!

I have massive curly hair so I wanted to look sleek for a change, so I straightened my hair, heavy makeup doesn’t work for me. My bridesmaids were very helpful.

Pumps, Sneakers and Sweet William

My shoes were cream ballet style pumps, Matt wore sneakers, he’s never been a shoes kind of guy!

Both me and matt suffer from hay fever, so lilies were out! My favourite flower is the sweet william so my bouquet was made up entirely of them with pearls scattered through and tied with raffia, the church flowers were more plant pots really, full of herbs so the church smelled beautiful and of course sweet williams again, and they were seasonal so woo! We got the florist literally across the road from the church to do them; she’s called Daisy-Mae

Green and Brown

I didn’t want anything very shiny in the wedding so 4 of the bridesmaids wore simple green cotton dresses with brown hessian style shawls and brown sandals, which they wear seemingly constantly. I wanted to give the little bridesmaid a chance to be a princess for the day, so she had a sparkly brown dress and fairy wings.

Matt wore a simple brown suit, so he could wear it again. Sneakers which were very cool, brown is my favourite colour so that was very nice. I have a very classy hubby.

Unique Decor

We had beautiful green cotton bunting everywhere, every guest at the reception had a pebble with their name painted on it which was lovely, we scattered green hydrangea flowers and brown rose petals on the tables and a last minute addition of green and brown silk runners on the tables, very pretty.

Sweet Treats And Favours

Our Cake was fit! 3 tiers of sponge, chocolate icing and ganache, we couldn’t find a cake topper we didn’t hate so we had a massive chocolate squiggle on top. Each tier had raffia wrapped around it to match the bouquet; we had it made by the Thomas Francis Chocolatier down the road.

We had Green and Blacks chocolate bars and flying saucers in palm leaf bowls on the tables. Eco-friendly and fun- got to be a winner.

A Natural High

We chose Olivia Brabbs as our photographer because she’s the best-fact. We wanted natural photography, when we saw previous work of hers, everyone looked so naturally happy rather than posed, so there was no other choice for us really.

The Most Important Thing

At the end of the day, our wedding was special because we were married; everything else was just window dressing. I’m in the band at church so naturally I roped them in to playing the music during the wedding. Matt and I are both Christians so having some of our friends pray for us during the wedding was really nice. It was lovely to be able to walk everywhere rather than use cars. It was great that so many of the elements of the wedding could be used again, the church flowers are now in our garden, and the bunting is going to be used for family birthday parties.

Anyone else “going green” for W-day?

With thanks to Lizzie, Matt and Olivia Brabbs Photography for sharing this gorgeous day. So many cool, clever AND easy to replicate ideas – loving the choice of shoes.

Big Eco Chic Love

What a lovely wedding and gorgeous photos! Olivia is photographing our wedding on september and I can’t wait. We love her reportage style and the way she captures the day, beautiful!

  8. Lizzie & Matt’s day was just so perfect to photograph – packed to the rafters with personal and eco friendly touches. The pebbles looked so lovely on the tables and made a perfect eco favour – beats something plastic and throw away any day of the week!

Great to get Katie’s comment – so excited about the big day in September and seeing you very soon for our pre-wedding shoot…

  9. Jenny AKA Gwen says:

Where did you get the pebbles from? I love that idea.

I really love the brides attitude too, it’s so important to remember what the day is all about.. and the rest is just window dressing

    So lovely

Yep that is one of my favourite brides quotes too. Don’t get me wrong, we all LOVE window dressing – that’s really why we are all here on RMW after all.

BUT a wedding is about 2 people in love, committing to the rest of their lives together. And that is the only REALLY important part.
