Pretty in Pink… Part 2

June 26th, 2010 by Rebecca@rockmywedding Leave a reply »

Welcome back for Part 2 of this pretty as a picture pink wedding, shot by Lisa Devlin and completing the story of our 2 best friend brides acting as bridesmaids for each other, barely a month apart.

Simons Auntie is a florist and did our flowers. We chose vintage colour roses. For our centre pieces I hired vintage white bird cages and they were filled with a bouquet of flowers.

A Recommended Photographer

Lisa Devlin was our photographer and her pictures were just perfect. She was recommended by my best friend Claire who worked with her, and I never needed to look at other photographers as Lisa’s work was amazing. I was so happy with my photos.

I brought some pink wellies, which I wore under my dress for our portrait photos! It was a lot easier scrambling up the rocks in wellies than in my heels!

The Cake

I wanted chocolate cupcakes, and found a lovely lady called Clare, based in Surrey who made them to my exact requirements. Chocolate cupcakes, with shades of pink icing. I wanted a tier of cupcakes, and Clare did a fab job!

Fragrant Favours

For the men we had miniature Whiskeys, and miniature bottle of Vera Wang aftershave. For the women, Miniature Baileys, and Miniature Vera Wang perfume.

Myself and Simon both wore Vera Wang on the wedding day so thought it would be a lovely idea for our guests to have the same!

Bride and Bridesmaid, all in one month…

For two girls planning their big days with very similar taste, planning together is bound to be a fun experience but also stressful… what if you both want the same things but have a lot of the same guests coming and maybe even want to surprise each other with little touches? I was intrigued and asked Leanne about her planning with Claire…

What were the potential problems in both being engaged at the same time and how did you overcome them and put your friendship first?

We didn’t come across any problems at all! We’ve had a strong friendship for 15 years now, and being engaged at the same time was brilliant! When Clare asked me if I minded them getting married the month after ours, I was over the moon!!

Did you find any bonuses to being engaged at the same time?

We did everything together, dress fittings, bridal shoes, bridesmaid dresses etc. We both had very slightly different tastes, so there was no worry of us wanting the same thing. The whole experience was fab!

I also asked Claire for her take on the situation (Check out her Orient meets English Eccentric wedding here)

What were the potential problems in both being engaged at the same time and how did you overcome them and put your friendship first?

Leanne got engaged a bit before I did so we had a chance to get used to the idea before I got engaged. I didn’t feel that there were any problems as we both had strong ideas as to what we wanted for our days. Having been friends since we started secondary school means that we know each other really well too.

Did you find any bonuses to being engaged at the same time (ie doing certain things together, sharing anything etc?)

We had great fun in the planning as we could do it all together and bounce ideas off each other. It was a great excuse to do lots of shopping trips. I think there were only a few tiny details that we kept from each other as we wanted a couple of surprises. The planning was such a huge part of your big day so what better way than to share it with your best friend who is going through it with you.

Can you suggest any ways of being both a Bride and a good bridesmaid for our readers?

I think we both managed to get the balance right on each others day. I certainly felt that Leanne was the perfect bridesmaid; carrying out her duties with ease (carrying my bag, fluffing my dress, helping me with trips to the loo!) As bride’s we both stole the limelight on the day, complemented by our ever faithful bridesmaid. I wouldn’t of wanted it any other way; being a bridesmaid to my best friend and then a bride myself within a month! Happy times!

Are any of you in the same situation.. both Bride and Bridesmaid at once? How are you finding it?

Yours Truly,

Rebecca
xoxo

My best friend is getting married in 2 weeks and i’m getting wed in 10! We’re each other’s sole bridesmaid- and this has been the case since school! We just hadn’t planned on it being quite so close together, still it’s been amazing sharing this experience-luckily we have quite different tastes so haven’t fought over any details! Both of us have already chatted bout what’ll we do once it’s over-wedding comedown worries!

  2. Just love this… as I always love weddings by The Devlin :)

I am a sucker for a pair of wellies at a wedding. Having a spring wedding myself next year, the lilac hunters will no doubt be making an appearance! xxx

  6. I forgot to say about this… I’m a massive fan of birdcage centrepieces and love the bottle table numbers – very pretty details!

Me & one of my bridesmaids were planning our weddings at the same time.

She is getting married in Italy in 5 weeks and im going to be one of her bridesmaids too.

We havent had any issues with the same things since I got married in Scotland and she is having an Italian wedding but it was fab to share ideas and experiences with her about dress shopping and we went to a wedding fair together which was hilarious telling the vendors that we were both getting married and were both each others bridesmaid too!

I loved having the next wedding to look forward too after my own!

My sis and one of my other bridesmaids also got engaged during my engagement too and my sis is planning her wedding for next summer where im going to be a bridesmaid too.

  10. I love Lisa’s work, the colour and glow are stunning.
I’m looking forward to the wedding I’m styling and she’s shooting in September. Jennifer

Such a pretty Wedding! Love the Vera Wang favours – can I be cheeky and ask where they were ordered from? x

  13. Leanne says:

Hi Leona, At the time of the wedding, I was doing some promotional work at Gatwick Airport, and I was friends with some of the girls who worked in the perfume departments, and she gave me a ton of stuff for free, including all the Vera Wang miniatures. I don’t think you can buy them, but you could ask around department stores, or try e-mailing them? Leanne x

Hi Leanne.. sounds like you had a result there! :) I have seen some on-line but they always seem to be slightly naf fragrances, nowhere near as lovely as Vera Wang! Will keep on searching…thanks for the advice x
