Rock My Wedding needs YOU!

July 13th, 2010 by Rebecca@rockmywedding Leave a reply »

So we all love our very own Rock My Wedding Real Bride Jen, who writes us real, inspiring and hilarious accounts of her planning. She’s been with us for almost a year of her wedding planning and the time has come for us to be wishing her a huge fat great big Good Luck for her own wedding which is looming at the beginning of September. We’ll all be so sad to say goodbye to Jen, but fear not, we won’t be letting her go without sharing all the details of her day and in fact the honeymoon too for good measure!

But what will we do then?

That’s where you come in… Rock My Wedding needs a new Bride. And we don’t just need one, we’re looking for 2 Brides (with a view to snaffling 2 more if you like where we are going with this…) to write a monthly post for us telling all about their wedding planning. We want the highs and the lows, the DIY and the impulse purchases, the colour scheme dilemmas, Bridesmaid nightmares, guest list woes and eventually we’ll want to see the entire thing recounted about up here in a Real Wedding special. Divas need not apply, but if you’re the shy type this might not be the job for you ;) .

So who are we looking for?

For a bit of variety we’d like Brides with different styles of wedding, Brides from different regions and different budgets. We’re going to ask you to email in your details, a photo of you and your fiance when you got engaged, plus a little bit about your wedding, and then, we’re going to hand it over to you, the RMW readership, to choose your favourites in each category, the Brides you want to read all about. Ideally we are looking for brides in the early stages of their planning with between 6 and 18 months to go. Part of the fun for Brides reading will be the process of your finding your suppliers so if you have booked a lot already, please let us know who and what they are.

Our categories…

DIY Bride/Budget Bride
Contemporary Cool
Vintage Inspired
Other (let us know your style)

What we need from you.

1. The category you fit into and a few words about the style of wedding you’re trying to create. – This could end up on the blog to help our readers choose and vote for you, so make sure your happy sharing it with the world. (Max 500 words.)

2. Mood board. We want to get a really good idea of your wedding style so make us a moodboard of your plans and likes. Again we will be sharing this so maybe don’t reference your actual dress if you don’t want it to be public – try a similar style. We would suggest that you make this in Powerpoint, using just one slide in landscape or portrait format, adding all your images, and then saving the whole thing as a .jpeg image file.

3. A photo of you and your intended when you got engaged.

Send us an email with the details below in it plus your text and moodboard to realbrides@rockmywedding.co.uk along with…
Bride and Grooms first name
Wedding Date
Location (Region and venue if you have booked it.)
Photographer (if already booked)

Please let us know who and what the other things you already have booked are.

We will be accepting entries for the next 2 weeks (the closing date will be July 31st,) then will whittle down to just a few Brides for you, our readers, to vote as their chosen Real Brides going forwards.

The (not so) Small Print.
1. You must be prepared to share your wedding plans and the actual day itself with the RMW readership.
2. By entering the competition and taking a position as a Real RMW Bride you are committing to providing a monthly post between October and the month of your wedding. Posts will be on a Thursday and must always be submitted by the Monday before.
3. Applicants must be committed managing their own deadlines and providing content and images in the format required

Big Real Bride Love

    This sounds exciting!!

Quick question though, (not so) small print number 3 – would you be able to advise us in which format it would be required. Don’t want to be wasting anyone’s time if that can’t be met!

    xxxx

Good luck to all you gorgeous brides entering this and I am looking forward to reading all about you xxxx :-)

  11. Brideandchic says:

Damn, just married…hmmm..(contemplates a completely fake wedding in the style of Celebrity Four Weddings)…
    Xxx

  12. Aisling says:

Is it totally wrong that I would get married all over again JUST to be able to write about it all day long?

Soooo jealous it’s a little bit (a lot) pathetic!

Yay for the newbies indeed Becca…love the word newbie….

    X

  13. Anna K says:

We’ll miss you too Jen! REALLY hope you can keep writing more…Facts of Wife style…your Big Day and HM writeups will be corkers I’m sure, but I don’t want that to be the end of my regular doses of Jen-dom!

  14. Laura says:

Gulp! Fingers crossed The Boy agrees to me applying! (contemplating whether this is a good enough excuse to disturb him during a very important meeting at work) x x x

  15. Staggered says:

Every time I see/use that picture I’m always astounded by Kitchener’s moustache. I know it’s a drawing but that’s quite a soup-strainer isn’t it? Sadly, propaganda is at work – this was the real thing – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lord_Kitchener_AWM_A03547.jpg disappointing.

    As you were.

  16. Emma says:

ooo my wedding is in 61 days, how exciting for us all!
I too will be submitting my little day of lovlieness!
cant wait to start reading and will def still be reading when im married!!
    xx

  17. recyclenow says:

O.M actual G, I almost had a butternut squash soup/white linen skirt incident when I read this post!!

(actually, I’m amazed I didn’t have one of those anyway, I try and be graceful/refined but it generally doesn’t work that way!)

I am so sending an email

    r.now

  18. Kates says:

This is very exciting!! Exciting and important enough for it to disturb my working day for quite sometime whilst I thought about applying (oooh for about 5 seconds) and then spending a good amount of time writing everything up!!

I must admit I will miss Jenny’s posts though, and those lovely pics of her cat that were posted!!

    xx

  19. Jenny says:

I have received such amazing feedback from everyone whilst writing for RMW – it’s been a massive ego boost and given my wedding planning a helping hand.

I can’t wait for my wedding to be featured in all it’s glory, and the honeymoon of course – but I will still exist in blog land fear not people! Whether that be through RMW or through my own (rather old and rather varied content) blog which i’ve been writing since 2007. I update it when I feel the need to share, and it’s more a place for ‘me’ time than something I could consider doing full time.

I love RMW and although I’ve never met Charlotte or Rebecca I have always had the freedom to do as I please in my own little corner of the blog, and the girls have both been a font of knowledge for me. I have called upon them for advice time and time again and they are the kindest, most generous and intelligent ladies I have the pleasure of blogging with!

Lets all love each other ;o)

    Jen xx

  20. Hi ladies, (and potential newbies!)

we’re both really looking forward to Reading all your submissions, so exciting.

Equally sad to be losing Jen… Sure we can find something up our sleeve for her tho ;)

Re point 3, sucessful ladies will simply submit to us their weekly text via email plus any images to accompany and we format the post for you. Images will need to be >600px wide. You do need to be computer literate (obviously) but we will provide some basic instructions on how to do a few necessaries!

    Xoxo

  21. Emily says:

    Thanks Rebecca.

Just worried in case you needed some fancy pants HTML or something or other.

    Oooooooo I am super excited!

    xxxx

  22. Inga says:

Oh how exciting, some newbies, will love reading about their thoughts & ideas, wish could get married all over again so could do the same. Will miss Jenny’s posts but looking forward to seeing your wedding in all it’s glory!! Good luck to all the girls submitting! x

  23. Sarah says:

Good luck to all those applying – I’m another very recent newlywed so not eligible. Boo.

Do we still get to read cat updates though Jenny?!

  24. Laura says:

    Hahaha at Staggered’s comment.

Jen I too will be very sad to see you go.

    What’s your other blog called?

    xx

  25. Lu says:

Ooh this is so exciting! I haven’t posted before but have been reading and loving RMW for months! And weirdly enough the other day I was wondering if Charlotte and Rebecca were going to be looking for someone to post about plans… Jen’s will be hard to follow though!

Our wedding is also in December, so I guess we don’t qualify either. We still have lots to do though!

  26. Christie says:

Ooooh got two years until our wedding so I better not, don’t think anyone would want two years of my rambling!

Will be keeping my eyes posted though in case you want more people later on, very excited to read about other reall weddings!! x

  27. Holly Pockett says:

Booooo :( I would’ve SO loved to have entered but am getting married in Dec (just passed the 5 month mark, eeek) so can not apply. Crying in to vente latte

    x

  28. Fiona D says:

Nooooooooooooooo :( I’m getting married at the end of October so unfortunately don’t qualify. I would’ve definitely applied otherwise as I could’ve done with the RMW team & posters advice & thoughts numerous times throughout the planning stage (to fit in with the families we are now on version 4!).

Good luck to all that enter & I’m looking forward to seeing Jenny’s big day & honeymoon posts
    xx

  29. Alex says:

Hello lovely ladies…Happy Tuesday to you all!

I’ve recently been introduced to the fabulous world of RMW by a friend, and have spent the last few evenings catching up on all the amaaaaazing posts and gorrrrrrrrrgeous weddings (much to the fiance’s amusement!!!) He still doesn’t understand my slight obsession with all things ‘wedding-y’, but then I’ll never understand the point of Sky Sports News….so I suppose we’re equal?!!!!

My heart has just skipped a beat after reading this post and I’m sure you can tell I’m a little excited!!! (I tend to overdo the exclamation marks during moments like this!!!!!!!)

My lovely fella proposed back in October and we’re just in the first stages of planning our big day for Summer 2011 (just over 12 months to go!) Fingers crossed he agrees to me applying for this amazing opportunity……..think a nice fillet of steak, cold beer and a foot massage after he gets in from work should do the trick!!

Starting to plan a wedding is soooooo daunting and so I have to thank RMW for inspiring me so much already. Jen, your frank wedding diary has been an invaluable read and I’m sure the newbie brides will be equally as inspirational, and fabulous!!! Fingers crossed I might be ‘The One’ (or the two!)

Right, better dash and get working…..!!

    Alex xXx

  31. Sama says:

    What a blimmin’ marvellous idea!

Alas, I’m not even engaged yet so that’s me fallen at the first hurdle. Hmmm, how to get the boy to pull his finger out..?

  32. axm237 says:

Oh you girls are mean! :-P I would have loved to have done this! I have a rather unusual story to tell too that I am dying to let out!!! …. but getting married in October so I’m too soon :-(

Good luck to all the new people who apply! Looking forward to it (although will be green with envy too) x x x

  33. axm237 says:

P.S. Sama? I believe we may have met before (there aren’t too many Samas around…. I filled you in about my ‘camping adventure in Italy with Rob’ at a very lovely couples leaving do in Blackheath….a friend of Alex’s….a friend of Paul’s…. I presume you are the same girl?? If so, what a very small world!!! And you should get engaged- you’d make a fab writer on here!!!!! x

  34. Chanelle says:

Excited – one of my brides is having a DIY farm style wedding at her parents property in Surrey (Woldingham). Horses, barn, growing their own flowers including planting lavender! She is getting married on 6th Aug 2011 so loads of time. She just found a gorgeous Jenny Packham gown too. Submission soon from her :)

  35. Chanelle says:

Oh yes, all guests will be camping on the property the night of the wedding! (glamping is it??)

  36. Laura says:

I am horribly addicted to this site, my best friend got married 2 weeks ago and got me horribly hooked! I dont have a boyfriend or a fiance so I definitely not eligble…never mind, all the time spent reading the blog will certainly help when I get as far as planning my own big day!

Very jealous tho….. I love a mood board, looking forward to seeing the newbies tho! xx
