Scents and Sensibility

I’m guessing that many of you lovely ladies have more of a clue than I did about “wedding perfume”…..

Being that I had NO CLUE that is….. as in erm ” what the hell is a wedding perfume?!”

Well if you do know and you have chosen something utterly fabulous then we would love to know what it is. If not however and you are wondering what on earth I am blabbering on about then let me explain….

Apparently as well as all your other specific W-day goodies ( make-up, shoes, jewellery, dress etc) you can also invest in a specific Big Day fragrance. A kind of waft down the ailse in a scented cloud of “I am about to be a Mrs/wife/general sex bomb” type of scent that will always remind you of that day. And how amazing/gorgeous/totally in love you felt.

If you quite like the idea and are stuck where to start then hopefully Rock My Wedding can be of assistance with a selection of some of the sexiest and most delicious scents available from statement classics to “just come onto the market” to total and utter knock-your-socks off they are so darn foxy varieties…..

New Kids On The Block

Scents-final-1

1) Cleopatra is the newest addition to the delectable Tocca range currently available at Space NK and is infused with grapefruit, cucumber and soft florals. It’s fresh, clean and oh-so-pretty and is currently taking pride of place on my own dressing table since purchasing last month.

2) Wedding Perfume = Madam Wang right? and you can’t go wrong with the limited edition Glam Princess which is a sparking, vivacious and glamorous little number made up of top notes of guava, pear and crushed red berries and a heart of honey, orange blossom and vanilla. You will smell ( literally) good enough to eat.

3) If it’s feminine AND fruity you are after then perhaps make a bee line for Lola the new fragrance from Marc Jacobs complete with pink peppercorn, pear d’anjou, ruby red grapefruit, peony, rose and creamy musk.

Oldies But Goodies

Scent-Final-2

1) Calvin Klein’s Euphoria is by far the most “asked after” scent I have ever worn and although I love to wear different varieties of perfume this still remains a firm favourite. With top notes of pomegranate, persimmon and lush green accord, middle notes of black orchid and lotus blossom and base notes of amber and mahogany woods it just is……perfection.

2) Not only one of the most gorgeous bottles ever invented but Lolita Lempicka still remains one of the most gorgeous and girly fragrances available and there doesn’t seem to be anything that comes remotely close to its edible uniqueness. Includes notes of liquorice, praline and vanilla to tickle your senses as well as your fancy.

3) Alien by Thierry Mulger is as mysterious as it is seductive and combines notes of transparent white amber, cashmeran and sambac jasmine especially selected from India. Reminds me of cosy winter nights by the fire and generally getting up to no good.

Sex In A Bottle

Scent-Final-3

1) Not for the faint hearted Flower Bomb from Viktor and Rolf is a full-bodied floral explosion. Literally. With top notes of tea and bergamot, middle notes of orchid, freesia, and rose, and a base note of patchouli.

2) Lady Vengence by Juliette Has A Gun was my own Big Day choice and was described by my husband as “heaven in a bottle”….with wild rose, patchouli and golden vanilla it is strong, vibrant and ever-so-sexy.

3) This is a very recent discovery actually but I have smelt Stella by Stella Mccartney on passers by more than a dozen times and always thought to myself “My what a lovely scent” but never had the courage to stop them and ask. Then my ultra glamorous and incredibly excellent-taste-in-everything friend Victoria stepped through my front door on Friday smelling particularly A.mazing. And what was she wearing? Yup you guessed it – Stella.

Sexiness in a God darn bottle.

I have it firmly planted on the Valentines day wish list.

With regards to making your fragrance go the distance I would definitely recommend investing in the eau de parfum version rather than eau de toilette if available. Also if there is a shower gel, bath essence or body lotion in the range maybe consider these as a treat to your soon-to-be-married self too, I find if I layer I am just as fragrant at 11pm as I was at 7am that morning.

Do let us know what perfume you have in mind for W-day or if any of these RMW picks are also favourites of yours.

I LOVE Flower Bomb. Everytime I wear it i get compliments :) I had intended to wear it when we get married in a few weeks…
Is it bad form to wear your “everyday” scent on your big day though? x

  2. Anna K says:

I wore Coco Mademoiselle because it’s the only perfume that’s made me go weak at the knees without fail since I was a teenager. BUT, having said that, I wish I’d gone all out and bought something completely unique. Because whilst Chanel reminds me of my wedding day, sure, it also reminds me of a whole host of other days…and so the Big Day fades into the scent background! Quelle horreur!

  3. Rach says:

I was planning on wearing my favourite everyday perfume, Chloe, as I love it and I know H2B does, however I’m sure that in a few months I will end up scouring the department stores for something else!! I am running low though, and will be going through duty free in a few weeks…. so perhaps perfect timing to search for something new! x

I wore Coco Mademoiselle on my big day too as it seems to last really well and I always gets compliments on it. My fave perfume is Flower Bomb – am wearing it as I type! It took me a few bottles to notice that it’s actually shaped like a hand grenade with the pull pin and everything. D’oh!

Hubby always loved Issy Miyake and pondered whether I might wear that on our big day as it reminds him of when we first got together (that and chewing gum – always had to be minty fresh for eary days kissing!) unfortunately it reminds me of working behind a smokey bar and boring university lectures so that wasn’t an option!!! Not sure you can even still buy it…

  5. Laura says:

I plan on wearing Love by Nina Ricci. It was a limited edition scent that I fell in love with last year. It’s the only perfume my fiancĂ© has ever commented on. Lucky for me my wonderful bridesmaid found me another bottle on line so I’m well and truly stocked up!

  6. Anita says:

I’m planning to wear Calvin Klein Euphoria -I love CKOne and Truth and wear them regularly but have never worn Euphoria before so looking forward to having a ‘new’ smell on the day! However as of yet I’ve not been able to find a Euphoria shower gel/body lotion -Charlotte do you know if they do one?

  7. rachel says:

Another Coco Mademoiselle bride here! I wanted to smell like ‘me’ to groom, friends and family so wore a familiar scent.
However, a kind friend gave me perfume for my birthday, a few months before my wedding, which I then wore in the months leading up. Now, whenever I wear it it reminds me of those lovely months of anticipation and excitement – and I really enjoy evoking those memories as well as all the others with Coco. x

  8. Victoria says:

Anita – I have the Euphoria body lotion and shower gel and it came in a set from Debenhams so maybe try there. Also in the set was an eau de toilette with glitter/shimmer and a hand bag sized eau de toilette. They might have some of the christmas gift sets knocking about still so worth a try.

I also found that the Soap and Glory body butter smells quite similar if that helps?

  9. Charlotte@rockmywedding says:

    Hi ( lovely scented) ladies!

Anita I too had the Euphoria set for Christmas with shower gel and body lotion from Boots, now might be a good time to look actually as I imagine they will have similar gift sets on offer for Valentines.

Love Coco ( in fact I generally love Chanel anything) and no Debs you certainly don’t have to have a specific “wedding day” perfume at all – why bother if you adore the one you wear? And as you know from my post am a BIG flower bomb fan.

I wore the Cartier perfume for my wedding day. I got married in December and wanted something quite “wintery”. It’s the only perfume that has cherry in it and is such a beautiful smell and a gorgeous bottle too. It’s definately a ’special’ perfume and having never worn it before it now reminds me of the big day and my honeymoon in NY as I wore it everyday there too! :-)

  11. Kara V says:

Charlotte i am also having Juliette has a gun but am having the Charming scent- what did you do about body lotion etc as they dont have one that corresponds? Kara x

  12. Hally says:

Haha great taste (as always!), I too had Lady Vengeance!!! My now hubby chose it, I was planning to wear my fave Agent Provocateur but we were shopping and he picked it up and really liked it, more than any I already owned xxx

  13. Charlotte@rockmywedding says:

Ha Ha loving the juliette has a gun fans! Kara I actually cheated as no they don’t have a body/bath line…

I bought some plain unfragranced lotion from the body shop, sprayed quite a bit of the fragrance into it and mixed it all up. – Voila!

I will say one thing though it is THE most lasting fragrance ever. Sometimes I can even smell it after a shower so as far as layering goes I wouldn’t worry. Good trick – spray in your hair, it seems to linger for ages.

  14. Ros says:

I wore Tom Ford ‘Black orchid’ and layed it up with the body lotion. I only wear it now at weekends or special occasions and every time I put it on it makes me remember our special day. Every day I alternate between ‘Coco’ and ‘Lola’ and I often have comments about what I’m wearing. Lola and coco remind me of our honeymoon as I brought ‘Coco’ at the airport and then in NY I discovered ‘Lola’

  15. Kate R says:

I saw Juliette has a Gun on sale in House of Fraser today! Not sure if it is online but it was at least a third off in the Westfield branch- as was Vera Wang Look, which I bought for my bms to go with their Vera Wang dresses!
I think I’m going to go for Penhaligon’s- any of you tried these old fashioned and pricey scents? They are so romantic to me but I haven’t committed yet….

  16. Emma says:

I have cleopatra (its sooo gorgeous)..wedding not till sept so trying to save it – but I dont think I can resist!!

  17. Amy says:

A nice idea if you have already chosen your wedding perfume is to spray a little on one of those cardboard tester things, and stick it into your diary on your wedding day page. It means you start associating the scent with your W-day straightaway! :)

Can see that nobody has mentioned the new fragrance by van cleef and arpels called feerie… its soo unique and just amazing… I’m sorta gutted I already started wearing it, cos want my wedding day perfume to have its premiere on the day… it would definately be “the one” otherwise.

The bottle is also fab… check it out… promise you wont be disappointed. x

  19. Anita says:

  20. Olivia says:
