Planning

When Fern asked me if I wouldn't mind sharing some inspiration with you lovely lot on how to integrate a celestial theme into your wedding day, I have to confess I did a mini jog inside. You see I've always been mildly obsessed with stars, moons, astrology, numerology, fortune telling, constellations...in fact anything with the sense of the mystic about it. I'm not sure why that is particularly but I can still vividly remember covering my ceiling with glow in the dark stars when I was eight years old and my set of the most beautifully illustrated constellation cards was one of my prized possessions. Perhaps this fascination runs in the family; when my sister got married last year she weaved celestial symbology throughout her wedding decor - from moon and star balloons through to a seating plan that was designed like an astrology chart. It's been thrilling then to see how this theme is becoming more and more popular with brides and grooms and even within the industry itself. Both Savannah Miller and Naomi Neoh both have celestial campaigns this season and their star-studded frocks are gorgeous...definitely worth taking a look if you haven't already. That's not to say that you simply must wear a star-bespeckled bridal gown on your wedding day. The inspiration below shows you how you can integrate a celestial, otherworldly theme on your big day without breaking the bank or veering into gaudy land. Let's get started... Celestial Wedding Inspiration Perhaps the easiest way to create the illusion of the magic of stars is through your lighting design. As simple as it sounds lighting is your best friend – in more ways than one. It can actually complement your chosen pieces of decor whilst being an element of display in its own right. If you're trying to create your very own ‘Starry Heaven’ then it's worth considering hiring out light strands or fairy lights which create instant ambience whilst throwing out light left, right and centre. These tend to be best utilised in spaces that are essentially blank canvases such as a marquee or in a barn or anything that is a dry hire. If you're not necessarily marrying in a marquee or barn think about using multiple candles instead. Play with different heights too – these extra long tapered candles in the moodboard above create a focal point right without breaking the bank. Another way to set the theme before your guests even arrive is to send save the dates and invitations with celestial motifs. We've seen everything used from stars, moons, astrology charts and constellations, usually on dark backgrounds with a sprinkling of glitter for instant impact. You can guarantee it will make your guests coo with wonder. Etsy is filled to the brim with sellers providing all manner of stationery sets even through to table plans and place names. I particularly like this one and this one...and I couldn't not mention this astrology box either. Try naming your tables after star constellations or even the signs of the Zodiac. Perhaps you could commission a print of the stars that were in the sky at the time and on the day that you and your partner met and showcase it in your venue at a focal point and then take it home to frame once the big day is over. Celestial Wedding Inspiration The celestial decor doesn't have to stop with lighting and paper pretty though. There are plenty of other budget friendly ways to nod to the theme in a distinct way. Stringing up dozens of metallic star shapes from the ceiling of your wedding venue creates instant impact and will make your guests smile...you can create the same effect with balloons too - either with stars or crescent moons and cluster them at entrance ways and in fireplaces like this image above here. If you're looking for smaller more discreet touches then I adore this painted globe below and the suspended wire outline of a star which would look equally effective at Christmastime too garlanded with a few sprigs of eucalyptus or even holly.Try spraying cardboard stars and placing them at each guest's place setting, throwing scatter stars across the tablecloths or even if you fancied going down the luxe route choosing crystals as favours for your nearest and dearest. If you really wanted to go hell for leather why not create your own crescent moon photo booth prop - just look at that kissing couple on theirs! It looks amazing! Celestial Wedding Inspiration Lastly and perhaps the easiest way to see stars is through your sartorial choices. It can be something as simple as a pair of glittery dusted flats, a delicate set of moon studs in your ears or a star encrusted hair comb or headband. If you're feeling adventurous why not add stars to your wedding veil, opt for a sequin encrusted frock or better yet choose a cape like this one at the bottom here for the evening festivities as you watch fireworks explode in the night sky. Are any of you planning your own celestial wedding? Is there any kind of symbology that is important to you? Will it form a part of your wedding decor? Does the mystic intrigue you too?
