Pretty Parasols and Pretty Maids
I searched and searched websites and shops for nearly a year for my bridesmaids dresses. I didn’t want traditional bridesmaid dresses from bridal shops but I thought I would have to after not finding anything else. Then one day, once I had given up looking, I stumbled across some in a Coast outlet store!
They were exactly the colour and fabric that I loved and had a touch of detailing that made them more unique than the styles in the bridal shops. Luckily my bridesmaids loved them too!
Somehow I think we knew it would rain as we put quite alot of thought into what we would do if it was wet and muddy! Rob bought us both wellies as a wedding present for the day….which actually came in very useful and made the photos look really fun! I also bought pretty floral umbrellas for myself and for my bridesmaids just in case…
A Floral Touch
Our florist was Jo at Floral Touch in Bath. I had visited a few florists before her but was not really very impressed. I was so glad when I met Jo! She really understood what I wanted and made some helpful suggestions too.
I didn’t want my flowers to look too arranged so I was really pleased with the loosely tied pew ends and relaxed arrangements that Jo produced.
Time For Tea
Whilst I was engaged I loved looking at real weddings sections in magazines and I once saw a wedding where they displayed flowers in teapots which I loved! Finding enough teapots was much harder than I anticipated. Luckily I found Vicky at Vintage Tea Sets who is based in Bristol and hired them from her for my table centres.
I also collected cups and saucers from charity shops and from my gran’s and great gran’s tea sets to display flowers in on the window sills in the Watermill. I had an old rusty watering can filled with flowers at the church too but sadly it got lost on the journey to the reception and I never saw it again!

Falling In Love With Photography
David Jenkins was our photographer. I have always loved photographs and so choosing a fantastic photographer was very important to me. I literally fell in love with the photos on his website! We met a number of photographers but I kept finding myself being drawn back to David’s website.
David’s photos had set a standard in my mind, the other photographer’s photos didn’t seem to capture the emotions and personalities anywhere near as well as his.
One photgrapher, who insisted on lots of posed shots which we weren’t keen on, tried to tell us that any photographer who said they could take good reportage wedding shots was lying and that they were just bad photgraphers!….. Clearly, they hadn’t seen Davids.
Last Minute Fabulousness
I was completely against having a cake, infact I intended on cutting a ball of Edam, which I had initially said as a joke but then decided I would just do….
However, in the final few weeks before the wedding we met Sheona from Cake Matters in Bristol through the Vintage Tea Sets website. She made me the most fabulous cake! I really didn’t want to cut it.

Evening Entertainment
Priston Mill is set in lovely surroundings and so we hoped that we could be outside as much as possible. We wanted to keep people entertained as people arrived so we decided to ask the Priston Morris Men to come and dance! We thought they would suit the venue very well! Unfortunately it poured with rain so I expected them to just go home, but instead they managed to dance around the watermill.
I think people were surprised at our choice of entertainment at first, but it actually went down really well and they were fantastic!
I love dancing so we went for a DJ who could play all our favourite songs from years gone by. We really wanted people to have a good time and to have a busy dance floor so we bought blow up guitars and microphones which went down really well! It seemed that my Dad’s music list went down better than mine though!
Heart Shaped Sweetness
We decided to put out jars of traditional sweets in the bar and paper bags for people to take their own through the day. I love hanging fabric hearts around our house so I really wanted to make some for that ladies as a favour.
Rob’s mum kindly offered to do it for me and did a great job!
Making It About You
I loved planning the decoration at the venue and really enjoyed going over to the Watermill a few days before to set it up with my bridesmaid and my parents.
We put large candles in the windows, hung old photographs of family members and of Rob and I from string, placed fabric hearts here and there, filled cups and saucers with pink bon bons, hung bunting up the stairs, displayed old black and white photographs of our relatives weddings on boards……
We then wove fairy lights around the banister, draped strings of pearls around the teapots, made fabric hearts with numbers on for the tables and placed an old suitcase downstairs for cards and then put out vintage style post cards for guests to write on instead of a guestbook with some ribbon and pegs for them to hang them up on through the day.

So much amazing D.I.Y has gone in to this W-day and it shows, the whole affair is just bursting with unique chic.
A MASSIVE thank you to David Jenkins for thinking of Rock My Wedding to submit this beauty too and of course Leanne and Rob for sharing their special day.

I love all the teeny tiny details! Did the bride make the board with the photo’s too?
I can’t see what colour the bridesmaids are, I’m hoping they might be long and white or a very very very pale colour, can you confirm?! I keep switching from pale blue to petrol blue to blush pink to white. These bridesmaids look fabulous.
WOW! So stunning! Might have to check out David’s website now, this is the kind of mix of styles I love… so beautiful!!
Oh Wow what an amazing cake! love all the little details x
That cake is mind blowing! I have never seen anything like it. Such a gorgeous wedding. I too have made fabric hearts for the ladies favours. It took hours and hours so I hope our photographer takes such sweet pictures of ours too.
Also a big fan of the cake and I love that feather wrap the bride has on, any idea where I can find one?! It’s gorgeous!
Hi Ladies!

Rachael – Gorgeous, I would love to receive that as a favour
Your time will be appreciated.
Rebecca – They are a very light pale blue. We don’t have confirmation that the bride made the board but you can find similar at LiveLaughLove.co.uk

What a stunning wedding and so much thought, love and effort has gone in to it but it looks like it was totally worth it.
Probably a daft questions but with the pegs the bride laid out for people to write a message on the postcards and peg up, did she just buy a selection of lovely coloured buttons and glue them to the wooden pegs d’you reckon? I want to copy!

The buttonholes are absolutely perfect!!! just the inspiration I’ve been looking for
Hi! Thank you so much for all of the lovely comments!
Vicky- the feather wrap was from Monsoon,
AJS- I had some old buttons that were my Grans so I stuck them onto the pegs with PVA glue!
Rebecca- I borowed that bored but I also made a very similar one for my table plan using foam board, a couple of layers of wadding and some floral fabric. Then you can stretch elasticated ribbon across if you want to. I got some drawing pins made by a lady from Folksy for mine. She put button tops on them with fabric ladybirds/strawberries or birds!
I mean board! bad spelling!
So many gorgeous details here…super pretty, too. Love love love the fabric hearts. Can anyone tell me how do you make these? Is there a pattern out there somewhere or is it a lot easier than that?! Think I want this idea for my ladies’ favours too as am big heart fan. Love the old wedding photos on he board – really lovely idea. And the bride is so pretty, love her dress, hairpiece and feathery wrap. Gorgeous look all round!
Oh and very excited to spy on someone else’s sweetie table as we’re having same and I only took delivery of 2 sweetie jars today for my collection!! Strawberry bon bons are a must
