One of the biggest problems a Bride has when planning her look can often lie with accessorizing. So much thought goes into The Dress which then must be perfectly complemented with a bewildering assortment of headpieces, jewellery and maybe even a veil. Most Brides will never have worn such a formal dress and the options are staggering, couple this with anxiety about the groom or guests reactions and lots of Brides find it an impossible decision.
My advice?
Stay true to your own sense of style – if you love chunky jewellery then find a statement necklace or earrings to wow your guests.
Don’t go overboard – Choose one piece to be the feature and let the rest compliment it. For example a statement necklace with complimentary but understated earrings.
Make sure you accessorise to suit the occasion and the dress - don’t forget that a huge ball gown style dress at a Castle wedding can take a tiara, veil, the works, where as a less formal dress in a vintage style might look pretty with a more delicate hairband or a simple flower in the hair.
Don’t under dress - remember the head shots! This is one piece of advice that I’m glad I took note of. Think about the head and shoulder shots of you amongst your guests wearing hats or fascinators and choose something that makes you stand out as the Bride, something special and unique.
The DWS showcased a wide variety of options from directional jewellery to traditional tiaras and I hope what you see below will challenge you to think about making the look truly your own.

For the Bride looking for modern sparkle that still stays pretty and light Kirsten Goss is a personal favourite of mine. Using Swarovski crystal, pearls, silver and rock quartz the South African designer has created pieces that are current yet timeless and could be worn again and again after the event. My favourite pieces in the collection include chandelier earrings, chunky rock quartz double stranded necklaces, shoulder grazing earrings and a recent addition to her collections, hand cut silver designs in organic nature inspired shapes. The cut silver collection extends to flower shaped hair combs and headbands which would be chic and understated for a picture perfect beach wedding. Even better you can do a one stop shop and purchase stylish gifts for your ‘maids that they will love you for.

Magpie Vintage source vintage jewellery and rework it to make vintage inspired pieces, including a bridal collection mainly in white. Expect to see chunky bracelets and necklaces comprised of highly collectable paste jewellery, rhinestones, faux vintage pearls, crystals and glitter beads each making up one off, unique pieces. They will even incorporate a piece of family jewellery of significance to you and could easily fulfil the job of your ‘something old’. Headbands feature vintage brooches reminiscent of old fashioned glamour and inspire a red lipped screen siren Bride channelling 1950’s Hollywood.

For the Bride looking for something a little more traditional, or the fairy tale look nothing less than a tiara will do. And the King of Tiara’s I hear you ask? Without doubt the legendary Andrew Prince. Residing in Londons Greys Market Andrew spends time with each bride ensuring that the piece ‘compliments rather than dominates the wearer’ and given the fine nature of the pieces they could truly become a timeless heirloom, fit to be passed down through generations.

What I heart: My last and most exciting find of the day was Rachel Trevor-Morgan Millinery, who’s fabulous bridal range literally caused me to hop up and down with excitement. Reasonably priced but unusual, cute as a button yet ultra sophisticated, the range of headpieces were perfect for the modern Bride. Mainly making use of feathers and fabric flowers the designs also include forties crescents, pillbox creations, all about the pretty bows and bird cage veils incorporated into the quite simply stunning creations sure to make a bridal statement in style.

Yours Truly
