The Great Outdoors

This wedding rocks…

In a big shiny environmentally friendly way.

Not only does this W-day look gorgeous but the bride and groom Tanya and Bert pretty much sourced everything themselves making it not only completely unique but also extremely eco-chic.

It’s not overly styled, it’s not overly fussy it’s just…. pretty. And relaxed. And nature provided the perfect back drop.

Tanya and Bert were married in August 2009 in Sailsbury, Wiltshire and they have kindly offered to share their Big Day with Rock My Wedding….

With special thanks to the amazing Allister at Allister Freeman Photography for sharing his work with us.

All-3

We wanted a relaxed, rural and eco-friendly wedding. Conventional venues couldn’t offer the flexibility we wanted so we cheekily asked a friend’s friend if we could use their farm. To our amazement they said ‘yes’! From that point on we were on a steep learning curve, sourcing and organising absolutely everything; water, electricity, equipment, catering. But it was all worth it to be able to get married outside in a sunny West Country field surrounded by smiling family and friends.

All-4

To keep environmental impact (and costs) low we bought second-hand items where possible, handmade decorations and used farm materials such as hay bale seating and straw confetti. The Scandinavian tipis we used were stunning, using natural fabric instead of white PVC. We also sourced local foods, organic cider, carbon neutral beer and fair-trade tea and coffee.

All-6

We wanted our guests to get involved so we had a cake ‘raffle’ where our guests brought along some incredible baked creations to go into the draw to be cut. The winning cake was a savoury ham and cheese sponge mounted on beer cans, perhaps the most unique wedding cake ever!

All-7

Guests camped overnight and then to make the most of the bank holiday weekend we followed up the perfect wedding day with ‘Wedfest 2009′. A day of live music, fancy dress, stone carving, food, drink and dancing. It was brilliant.

We’re currently really enjoying our travels around the globe, taking lots of photos along the way with lots of inspiration from our time spent with Allister.

All-10

A big thanks to Tanya, Bert and their photographer Allister from Allister Freeman Photography.

We would love to hear about your eco-chic W-day ideas!

Big green Love

Allister is AMAZING! I wanted him for ours but just a little bit too much £££ for us. Am loving the gate and confetti shot.

This is pretty and so lucky with the weather! Love the bouquet as it looks so fresh and the dress is a gorgeous colour, is that like a champagne?

  3. Love outdoor weddings. Hope to see more of these in the UK!

I want an outside wedding-we’re already talking about growing what flowers we can and vegetables to give to our caterer-I think reducing the carbon footprint is so important (not sure I want to stay in the uk for our honeymoon like h2b does, my argument is that saving some fuel means we can fly further!)
How did you plan for weather? Did you have space in the marquee??
    Beautiful dress – wonderful personality

Hi everyone, Tanya (or actually Tania) here. Thanks for your lovely comments. Sorry for the late response Laura and Amy but my dress was indeed ‘oyster’ colour. And the furniture was provided by the company we hired the tipis from (called ‘Beautiful World Tents’). Hope that helps and that you have fantastic days!

Hello!! The tipis are utterly gorgeous and an amazing backdrop for wedding, dress them up like a night on the tiles or leave them au natural…either way they are amazing!

i own one of the UK’s tipi companies and so, im smitten with them! if you would like one, please drop us an email and have a mooch at them!!
