The Sunday Papers.

January 23rd, 2011 by Charlotte@rockmywedding Leave a reply »

No matter how busy I am or what insane workload I have hanging over my head, I always make time to have at least an hour or so looking through the Sunday papers, The Times being my favourite ( love the home section and of course Style magazine…)

Maybe it’s a routine thing, maybe it’s just because I like to relax a little and take my mind off the fact that tomorrow is yet another Monday ( Yawn)…… and it is probably going to be cold and miserable outside ( I think I may be suffering from S.A.D people)….or maybe it’s because I just like to learn something ( even if it’s just a teeny weeny tiny something) about what is going on in the world right now.

And I know I’m not alone. I bet there are thousands of you lovelies who are currently surrounded by various sheets of black and white print awaiting your full attention ( and just incase I forget at the end of this post please do leave a comment to say which is your number one weekend read..)

So this got me thinking, could the RMW team create an on-line Sunday supplement? a mini selection of articles that keep you up to date with what is going on in Weddingville and beyond?

Of course it would be pretty, and we wouldn’t want to bore the (fancy) pants off you with a load of the “same old” either. Hmmm. My blog Queen brain is really ticking with this one folks.

Anyway, whilst I spend my Sunday pondering the design aspect of a Rock My Wedding Gazette/Mail/Express etc etc I’ll leave you with a little bit of Behind The Scenes news from RMW HQ.

Rock My Wedding’s Next Top Models!

We couldn’t believe just how gorgeous you all were, seriously – our “shoot” team had a really difficult time deciding who to pick for their London adventure tomorrow as so many of you were just so darn photogenic.

In the end they picked the lovely Gemma ( top two profile shots) and Chara ( bottom landscape) who will be gracing these very pages in the not to distant future. Watch this space ;-)

Dates For Your Diary

In case you missed it, the RMW team are going to be at The Event in Derby on the 6th February, we would absolutely LOVE to see some of you there so if you haven’t already, go and buy a discounted entrance ticket from the Save The Date website using code RMWREADERS when you have a spare minute…..it’s going to be a great day!

We love to hear about what is going on with our brides that have allowed us to showcase their W-day on the pages of Rock My Wedding, especially when just like Rebecca and I, their wedding has inspired them to do something creative within the Industry.

* A vintage inspired wedding, you can view the whole beautiful day here and here.

Hannah Middlewick (above) – the lady with THAT fabulous hair do is now a fully fledged wedding stylist with a speciality in selecting the perfect sweet treats for your guests. Her company www.sweetdreamevents.co.uk ( I love her website design) is joining forces with several other Industry professionals to host a luxury wedding showcase event at the Exquisite Brides boutique in Lymington.

Joining Hannah will be Carrie Bugg Photography, Elite Hairdressing ( they of THAT do fame!), make-up artist Annabel Hornsby and jewellery designers BeauBijou.

The dates are the 10th and 17th March and will include live demo’s and a whole heap of advice about everything to do with the Big Day. Please contact Natalie at Exquisite Bridal Couture on 01590 610433 for information on entry.

If you would like to leave any suggestions on what you would like to see in a RMW Sunday paper then please do drop a comment on this post, alternatively drop me an email at: charlotte@rockmywedding.co.uk with your thoughts ;-)

Big Sunday Love

MMmm…..honestly? I don’t really want a Sunday supplement unless it’s home or wedding related. I get my other interests from other blogs. I think diversifying into something not related to your usual content would dilute your readership rather than attract new readers.

What would be good is a link to the best weddings on other blogs-style me pretty has SO much stuff that I don’t really want to scroll through it all.

Congrats to Gemma! Looking forward to seeing the results of the shoot! X

  2. Firstly… How delicious is miss Gemma? Well done lady! I am seriously looking forward to these images.

Secondly… Right now I am nursing a particularly dodgy hangover as a result of an unexpected night on the tiles and a Sunday supplement sounds like a wonderful cure.

I was a massive Surfers Paradise fan. There is now a little hole in my heart where it once was, so I love the idea of an abundance of articles/links/images and I think that it would be cool to mix it up with a wedding/home/fashion & beauty/lifestyle content. In the pretty kinda way that were all used to here :-)

I also think it could be cool to get the occasional writer for things like Interiors/Fashion/Weddings etc to write a see piece on what’s hot or top tips.

Mammoth comment, but it has seriously helped me to concentrate on not shaking for a moment. Thank you! :-)

Oh… And I read the Scottish Sunday Herald.

Yay!!!! The top Gemma is one of my best friends and I can certainly confirm she is gorgeous, good choice :-)

As for the paper idea… I would quite like to see a bit of everything that you already write about, so I can get my fix at once! Interiors, beauty, opinion pieces, fashion…. And of course weddings!

    xoxo

  4. Morning Lovelies!

I think whatever we do we are never going to please everyone with every post we write, that’s reality.

Rebecca – I don’t think we will “dilute” our readership just because 5% of our content isn’t centered around the Big Day, and the Sunday post idea was not to necessarily attract “more” either, this is a wedding blog and its UK brides in the main who we are aimed at. However, planning brides are not thinking weddings 24/7 and I know certainly when I was planning that sometimes I just needed a break away from it all, it became exhausting.

Well we’ll see, I still have a question mark over the whole thing, so many ideas, so little time!

  5. Hannah’s hair is my bridal hair inspiration!

I think a ‘sunday supplement’ is a great idea – Sundays are quiet days on here anyway and it would be nice to have something specific to ‘look out for’ on the blog xxx

Charlotte, I think this is a fab idea! I love waking up and coming on here on a Lazy Sunday morning and to have some Sunday supplements to read would be great. Personally I’d like not to have to go searching elsewhere on the web, if you’re going to put news (wedding or non-related) in front of me I’d only be grateful. Although I’m happy to be submerged in the wedding world while I can, it’s much more fun than my work world!

I like Rebecca’s idea of a Sunday sum up of other pretty weddings from other blogs. When you did a list of pretty things you and Rebecca had found on the web the other week I really liked that.

Basically if I’m honest, I’m lazy so I like it when you guys do research and collate it for us whether it be wedding, home, shopping, or news related! You always make it good.

    xXx

P.S Saturday sneak peek and the weekly sum up is really good, glad you guys started that up!

Ooooh a sunday supplement sounds fabby! Maybe like what has been mentioned something with a snippet of different things that have caught your stylish eye over the week in whatever area it is.
I liked while I was reading a few weeks ago when people were discussing good hotels in London I spent ages looking through the different ones trying to plan my next weekend there.
And with the beauty stuff too (generally not just weddingy) there is always loads of good advice on here!
Whatever you come up with will be great I’m sure.

Gorgeous photos of the brides to be cant wait to see the shoot! And I am checking the vintage wedding as soon as I am back from the gym (groan).
Wish I had more time to spend going back through all the posts on here due to me only discovering this wonderful place a month or so ago I spend ages reading back through! Loves it!

I am afraid I dont always read a sunday paper (its wedding mag central here) but if I do its something totally fickle and most people probably dont like it but News of the world or Sunday mirror or something with goss in thats never true! I love reading junky things sometimes!
Happy sunday and sorry for the super long post (anything to put off the gym eh!)
    xx

  8. Rebecca says:

Charlotte, I don’t necessarily think it has to be just weddings. I said maybe home or weddings because you already do that. Or fashion. Which you also already do. Or gym stuff.

I just didn’t like the idea of straying outside of what you already do – I’d never expect to see an article on the relative merits of….proportional representation…like I would in the times. I’m aware that’s a rubbish example. I guess what I’m saying is that I like to read things written by people who know a lot about that subject.

  9. Jules says:

congratulations to both the beautys, you are both stunning! xxx

I think Sunday Suppliment is a great idea, i dont just read the blog for wedding stuff, i read it because i like the way you present all the articles you do and i feel part of the community, and i like to read everyones comments cos i feel like i know them.

  10. Rachael says:

I think the new saturday / sunday posts are great. Although I do feel a little guilty enjoying them knowing the extra work you must have to put in.
A sunday suppliment would be a great idea. The wedding related style/fashion etc posts are my favourite as I have had my wedding day so a world wide summary would be great, all I guess relating to the wedding industy in some way (or at least I think that was what you meant) P.S I don’t currently read a Sunday paper.
Could I make another request though… could you put at the top of the post who it’s by rather than just at the bottom? Once you have come in to the comments it shows but not on the main page.
I like to know which of your two ladies has written the piece as I read. (I got all the way through this one thinking it was Rebecca) ?! Please excuse me if I am just missing something.

    Hi Rachael!

We always sign off every post with either…

I love a good old read of the sunday supplements – so great idea Charlotte!

Well done to Gemma & Gemma, can’t wait to see the shoot.

I forgot to say too, no paper for me, I’m a Sunday Times on the iPad convert. Love all the interactive extra things you get with it. Brilliant but not without bugs.

    xoxo

  15. Just realised I only congratulated one Gemma. Congatulations Gemma #1 & #2!! You’re both serious beauties. Xo

  16. Anon says:

I love the times style suppliment!

    Ideas:

I love the interiors you have done previously.

Advice pages?! Maybe people could post a question/problem and then Charlotte/Rebecca or other expert can help?!

What inspires you, rebecca and other wedding suppliers?!

Can’t think of anything else but the one thing I like is that you ask us!

Happy Sunday (what is left of it), now off to watch Being Human ;o)

  17. Abi says:

I don’t know why it came up ‘Anon’ ;)

  18. Mahj says:

Oh goodie, more RMW loveliness. I think a Sunday Supplement would be fab that inc not only wedding-related pretty but fashion, home, style, anything really!
And I too love The Times – esp the Style magazine.
Congrats also to the Gemma’s. xoxo

  19. Hi ladies!

Gosh almost Monday – how did THAT happen?!

Rebecca, I think we may have crossed wires ( or I didn’t explain my intentions clearly!) I meant a little bit of Home, Fashion, beauty etc, much like you would find in a Sunday supplement, not what’s going on in Government (!)…..

We see so much great stuff being bloggers and it just gets “lost” as we have no-where to put it so to speak.

Rachael – when you come to the home page actually click on the post title, it will refresh and you can see whether it is me, Rebecca or Adam – to the right of that title.

Abi – yes! an advice section was on my mind pet! excellent!

  20. Rebecca says:

Ahhh yes I think we might have! I thought as you were talking about TT and then said about giving us an update on weddingville ‘and beyond’.

    Now it makes sense!

I know someone has run this before but it would be cool to do a ‘post wedding catch up’ with brides you’ve already featured. Or a ‘how’s it going’ with ‘regulars’. I’d love to know what brides are doing one year on.

  21. Perdita says:

I like the idea of an advice column (I read the Mariella Frostrup one every week in the paper!).

Also perhaps features on fashions for mothers-of-the-bride and guests… some of us visit because we are supporting a bride or newlyweds.

  22. Alex84 says:

Love love love the idea of advice section!
