Underneath Your Clothes.

Charlotte – The Fox in Florals: I have a confession to make. I do not own an assortment of overtly sexy undergarments. The very thought of see-through lace makes me shudder, suspenders bring me out in a cold sweat….. And when faced with the prospect of donning the full-on traditional first-night bridal garb for W-day I was very close to having some kind of mini meltdown.

It’s not that I think those that have the confidence to swank around in their saucy smalls don’t look lovely – they do. Positively ravishing in fact. It’s just that I’ve given it a go (on more than one occasion) and for some reason or another I have just ended up feeling like a bit of a berk.

My underwear collection falls into two distinct categories, plain and practical and “pretty prints”. The former is as described, T-shirt bras and bikini briefs in a range of white, black and nude tones and the latter is a vast array of colourful brights and rich hues courtesy of Monsieur Klein.

It seems I feel foxiest in florals. And now I’ve come to terms with that fact I think I’m ok with it. I have finally gotten over my deepest darkest desires to one day emerge as some kind of riding-crop yielding Miss Whiplash or a marabou mule wearing Marylin-esque Hollywood siren.

It’s just not for me.

Oh and for the O’Shea big day due to the no-need-for-a-brassier backless gown all I wore was a pair of silky flowery Calvins. And actually?…. that suited me just fine.

Ahem. Although I do have one secret weapon.

Over-the-knee-socks.

;-)

Jenny – The Curator of Corsetry: I bought my first corset from Vollers in 2002 to wear to a company Christmas Ball. I knew everyone else would be wearing a posh dress, so I wore my corset with a pencil skirt and killer heels, to try and be a little different. I felt quite conspicuous at first, I arrived and everyone was wearing a ball gown type dress from Monsoon or Coast, and looked really classy… And there’s me, looking like all I needed was a PVC whip and a gimp mask! It took approximately 3 glasses of wine and endless compliments on such a beautiful choice of corset before I could breathe out and enjoy myself. There began my love affair with corsetry.

To me, wearing a corset makes me feel empowered, and secure (despite it looking like my bangers might very well make an appearance if I’m not careful). Always being told how curvy I am I learnt to use them to my advantage (rather than hide them away) and embraced my womanly shape. Why should I hide myself away just because I’m not a perfect 10? I’m aware I don’t resemble Dita von Teese, I am far from having a perfect body, but I am a woman, with a womanly shape, and there’s nothing society can do to make me feel ashamed of what I look like.

Fortunately my wedding dress had a built in corset, a selling point considering I was up the duff and worried about showing. I would recommend a dress with a bit of inner structure – does wonders for your waist line (and posture!) I had Mr O help me out of my dress at the end of the night, then went and slipped into this.

I don’t tend to wear my corsets out in public these days, I’m not sure they’d like me running around Park n Shop with my heaving cleavage and grocery shopping list! I save them just for Mr O now…

If being married has taught me anything, it’s that wearing lingerie is necessary sometimes, to remind my husband that despite the smell of baby sick, I am capable of still being sexy still.

Vix – The Girl Next Door: I used to be a thong girl but as I have grown older (and a bit plumper) I cannot resist the good old (big-ish) pant!! I like the ones that are just big enough to cover my unsightly bits but small enough to still look sexy, well I think so anyway…. I just like to be comfy and feel attractive in my grundies. I still wear the odd thong or two, it depends on what I am wearing on the outside I suppose.

When it comes to my wedding I will definitely be sporting something comfy and sexy too. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not always a comfy girl, I do have some occasional saucy stuff that makes the odd appearance here and there (!) but the majority of the time the ‘girl next door’ pants are the best way forward for me.

So Then – What About You Gorgeous Lot?!: As you know with all things Rock My Wedding it’s about doing it your way – and that goes for what you wear underneath your clothes too, be it stockings, big pants or nothing much at all…

Have you bought your W-day underwear yet?

Are you going for a more traditional “first night” look complete with bridal basque and blue-ribboned garter?

Or do you favour a streamlining pair of spanx?

And more to the point…..Do you even care?

We would love to hear your thoughts this afternoon lovelies.

Big What’s Important Is What Feels Right For You Love

Mine’s an original 50s dress so no built in corset but clever ladies at the shop buy in waist nippers which super cinch but don’t bulk.

In terms of the other support I am on the eternal search for the perfect ‘Shepherd Bra’…to round ‘em up & point ‘em in the right direction!

  2. Sarah says:

I never do the whole dressing up in matching lacey sexy underwear because it always comes off too quickly and i think its such a waste. However i thought i would treat my new husband on our wedding night. I spent some time searching for the perfect set, and it was all about the pretty and not the comfort!
However, on our wedding night we go carried away and invited friends back to our cottage for a drink while they waited for taxis. The taxis never turned up and we sat up chatting and drinking till the early hours. In the mean time i had slipped out of my wedding dress into my COMPFY PJ’s and that was it, the underwear were forgotten! Even though our wedding night was not as romantic as expected, we had the funniest time and wouldnt change it.

My advice – don’t put too much pressure on yourself for the wedding night, you will feel a millions dollars even if you dont look it in your bridget jones.

  3. This post couldn’t be more perfectly timed. With my first fitting just after Christmas and not wanting to shop for my wedding underwear in the Christmas rush, I’ve started early.

My dress has a built in bra so I will just be sporting a pair of frilly frenchies on the day and saving the sexy stuff for the honeymoon ;)

    xx

  4. Laura C says:

Underneath the dress I plan on wearing my trusty Spanx! I could go without, but just as a confidence booster in a dress with no corsetry, that is the plan for now. I just need to find, as Jessie so rightly puts it, my perfect Shepherd Bra!

  5. Lauren says:

I’m a sexy underwear girl – I love beautiful underwear and it makes me feel good! Doesn’t have to be super expensive either, I just buy what I like. For my wedding day however I had to go for practicality and ended up wearing a nude strapless wonderbra and matching nude thong, mmm! My dress was so smooth that anything else would’ve shown through and I was more concerned about the dress looking perfect. I did buy a few different sets (Ann Summers! Myla and Mimi Holiday) planning to change when we got back to our hotel but never got around to it ;o) so I saved them for my honeymoon instead!
Would totally recommend the Wonderbra for anyone looking for a great strapless; mine stayed put and gave a really nice shape. Really didn’t want to be hitching it up all day like I usually would be in a strapless. It was this one
    http://www.wonderbra.co.uk/bras/details/ultimate-strapless-bra
Not cheap at £34 but it was fabulous!

  6. SpecialSundae says:

I have to confess that I’m a great believer in sexy underwear. While I won’t pretend that I’m in La Perla every day (or ever), I do tend to have a matching bra and knickers (and usually coordinating stockings and suspenders too).

For my wedding day it would be daft for me to wear anything less attractive and, as a regular casual lacer, I was always set on wearing a proper steel-boned corset. I also decided that I was going to have my dress custom-made, so I found a dressmaker who specialised in corsetry and I’m having a custom-made deep red silk taffeta corset based on an 1873 pattern with suspender straps added to hold up the 1950s-style fully fashioned stockings. To finish it off, I’m trying to find some gold silk satin frilly knickers.

Not that I’ve thought much about it at all…

  7. Lou says:

I had what can only be described as a chuffing nightmare with my w-day lingerie! Being ample of the bust (30FF) I knew dress shopping was going to be tricky, but things became decidedly difficult after falling in love with my backless wedding dress! I tried two backless bodies: Ultimo – cheap, nasty and SO uncomfortable; and, in a moment of panic/madness as the day was approaching, an Ender Legard body from Net-a-Porter. At £400. Insanity. Luckily for me, despite being beautifully made, this too was not right.
So, I started to think about the alternatives – embellishing the back of a bra so it didn’t look totally crap? Nope, going totally sans bra? Bonkers, and I’d have been so uncomfortable. The answer then was to search for stick-ons. I tried EVERYTHING, but at the last minute found the answer. TWO sticker-bra things!! One was a very dubious looking celotape-type affair that pulled my boobs up from above and the other was a kind of fabric plaster type sticker that supported from below. So, so sexy. But they worked!! I was completely amazed. That said, I don’t recommend my methods, I had no back-up and if any one of the four bits of sticky tape holding my boobs had failed in the 13 hours I was wearing them I’d have been seriously gutted.
As for the wedding night – we were a little on the tipsy side for any of that to be a concern ;) and I got myself a very sexy Elle McPhereson black lace set and hold-ups for the following night. Bob’s your uncle. xxx

  8. SpecialSundae says:

For the record, there are much more effective and attractive alternatives to Spanx. What Katie Did and Made by Niki both do lots of stunning alternatives to the sausage skins!

  9. @Jessie – Shepherd Bra? Love it! and if you find one can you let me know where from please?

@Sarah – I couldn’t agree more. I wonder how many people do have this romantic ideal on the wedding night. I was a bit tipsy and fell over my own feet on the way to the bed….

@Louise – Love a frilly frenchie! I had some of those for Honeymoon too ;-)

    Charlotte xxx

  10. @Lauren – I am buying that bra immediately – always on the look out for the perfect strapless.

@SpecialSundae – I am always super envious of girls like you. Sounds immense.

@Lou – my sister is a 30F, I think she buys quite a few things from Bravissimo? I am loving your home-made efforts though – at least they worked!

    Charlotte xxx

  11. Andrea says:

This post is SO perfectly timed for me too. I was really looking forward to wedding lingere shopping (yesterday in fact!), but because I have chosen a satin/silky number with a really low back and fairly low front, traditional undies just won’t work.

Lou, I need your help! Where did you get your sticker bra things that you used?!

    x

  12. SpecialSundae says:

@Charlotte – Sadly what goes over the top of the underwear can be a right mess at times, but the underwear’s always good.

  13. Katie says:

I can second Lauren’s recommendation about the strapless Wonderbra – it’s amazing. So good in fact, that I often wear it even when I don’t need a strapless bra!

I too struggled with wedding underwear. I want something pretty, not plain, but I think I picked the wrong time to search! I think my problem was that I usually wear something bright, or something dark – I don’t own a nude or white bra/knickers.

In the end I bought a gorgeous cream silk set from good ol’ Marks and Spencers, but come bed time, it really didn’t matter what either of us was wearing… it was 5.30am and we promptly fell asleep.

    xoxo

  14. Katielase says:

I have to say my only concerns on W-day are COMFORT and SECURITY. Mostly security. Basically I want those bad boys staying exactly where I put them, even if I bounce around on the dancefloor like Tigger on acid (distinctly likely).

I need a plunge strapless bra though, and I have never before found a comfortable one in my size (32FF)… any suggestions, lovely people?

I don’t mind what it looks like but it needs to be plunging, not cover-them-all-up style. I’m really the least sexy-type person ever. I have one set of sexy underwear, which I never ever wear, because by the time I think about wearing them I’m usually sort of… already engaged with the sexy-times. Basically I have no forethought. And I hate knickers that ride up my bum, which includes thongs and frenchies. So, yeah. I’m a rubbish sexy girl.

    K x

  15. Yvonne says:

This makes me laugh… I looked long and hard for my perfect wedding night knickers – what a waste of time that was.

In the end, I changed dresses at my reception due to the heat (it was still 36 degrees at 10pm). Sadly my reception dress was not as heavy fabric as my wedding gown (although it was full length) so you could see my white silky stunning undergraments through the dress! Disaster -and I had no backup!

I ended up with no kickers at all! At my wedding reception! Madness!

Husband was highly amused. This still makes us laugh one year later.

  16. Jessie says:

@SpecialSundae – The Harlow Bullet Bra from What Katie Did – now THAT’S a Shepherd Bra if I ever saw one!

  17. @Special Sundae – I am quite sure that is not true at all, and if it’s any consolation as I sit here and type I am wearing a well worn hoody and a saggy-at-the-knee pair of jeans. The underwear is boring too ;-)

@Katie – I like the nude range from La Senza, it’s a nice bronze/gold colour rather than that weird pinkish skin hue you often see. And I am definitely buying one of those Wonderbra’s!!!

@Katielease – You young lady need to get yourself down to the GAP, best panties for not riding up your derriere – and they do lots of really pretty pairs (I can even just about manage their lace-edged version without feeling like a sexy-girl fraud)

  18. Tracy M says:

@Lou; @Katielase, I’m a 28FF and totally know what you went through! I ruled out backless completely (even though I LOVE it), and even without that I had enough trouble finding a strapless, seamless, nude plunge bra to wear under my slinky Jenny Packham. After a few failed attempts Bravissimo came to my rescue and I wore Panache’s Porcelain Strapless Bra which I have to say was fab and SO comfortable! On the bottom I had nude Spanx-type things from M&S, except they didn’t come up as high as Spanx, so I could go to the loo without having to undo my dress!

For my wedding night I bought a lovely navy silk and lace set from Mimi Holliday – but didn’t end up wearing it because we didn’t go to bed until 5am! I saved it for the next night instead. ;-)

  19. Katielase says:

@Tracy M… ooh, I will have a look at that Panache bra. I like Panache bras :-)

@Charlotte… thanks, I will try the GAP! My issue is that I have big hips but quite a flat bum (no idea how that works… keep trying to encourage the cupcakes to head rear-wards but they’re not on it).

  20. Can I just say how upset I am to have been left out of this post.

    That is all.

    Adam.

  21. Alex H(K) says:

I knew from the outset that I wanted a dress I didn’t have to wear a bra with. I’m a 32G and have never found a strapless bra that works properly. The dress I bought was very low at the back, with a plunging neckline but it had THE most amazing built in corset. It literally turned me into Jessica rabbit, and the best bit, the boys stayed put all night.
I had intended to wear stockings and suspenders as I love sexy underwear, however on the morning of the wedding I didn’t have time to put them on, so I wore just the lacy French knickers and saved the suspenders for the honeymoon.
    Xxx

  22. Lou says:

@Andrea – are you sure?? I will say that they’re not the most seamless things – my dress was double layered – embellished netting-type stuff over satin – so they didn’t show though. I think if you put them on with more care than I did they’d be ok though! Here we go:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Instant-Breast-Lift-Tape-PAIRS/dp/B003R9V8V6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1320767046&sr=8-2
(though these will probably be as good and are in English!! http://www.feelunique.com/p/Liftits And I didn’t struggle with the things that the reviewers on amazon did but I only bought these cos I was desperate.)
    and
FFA Supportits which I am struggling to find in stock anywhere other than Lucile, a shop in Manchester, but they have online shopping!… http://www.lucileandco.com/lingerie/shapewear/fashion-first-aid-supportits.html
To be honest, if you have more ‘normal’ sized boobs you’ll be able to find something more suitable out there, and maybe the liftits will be all you need so I’d buy those first. Good luck! xxx

  23. Kristina says:

Hmmm, I haven’t purchased my Wday panties yet. I did buy an adorable “Kiss The Bride Panty” from VS but I don’t think they will be part of wedding wear. Maybe later that night. Ideally I would love to wear something cute, sexy and fun but most likely I’ll be adding as much Spanx and spandex fat suckers I can get my hands on. Not unless the weight loss fairy comes and helps me drop 20 pounds.

  24. Jeanie says:

    Perfect timing for me too!

I just – like litterally 8 minutes ago – got an email from my dressmaker to let me know it is finished!!!! WITH PICTURES ATTACHED! Really wish I was not still at my desk so I could lark about so just having a sneaky RMW fix to channel my excitement :-D

My dress is very low backed so I think its just going to be fancy nicnaks for me and stockings for me! Wooo tee wooooo!

Do you do a garter with stockings? In my imagination that may look a wee bit wierd…..but I found this super cute one on Etsy earlier. http://www.etsy.com/listing/62369937/garter-modern-garters-bridal-garter-chic?ref=af_you_favitem

    Did I mention MYWEDDINGDRESSISFRICKINREADY?!?!?!!?

  25. Kristin J. says:

I plan on wearing some nude lacy undies under my light control spanx. More wanted them for smooth lines since I have a fitted dress.

As for the night of I wanted something sexy but comfy enough to sleep in. So I bought these pale pink nightie that is soft with a touch of lace. I loved it so much I bought a similar set in plum.

  26. @Kristina – is VS Victoria’s secrets? I love that store. Why don’t they bring it to the UK?!

@Jeanie – Huge Congratulations – you must be so excited!!!

  27. Roger says:

Wedding underwear is not on my list *at all* – to the point where my best friend is the one panicking about it not me. Under some pressure, I have now conceded to buying a new pair of pretty pants, and that will do me just fine thank you :-)

They’ll have to be nude though as I’ve just found out that my 2nd dress (Yup I’m having 2!) is slightly see through, especially with light behind it. Oh well, maybe everyone will get a flash lol!

  28. Shirley says:

ROFL oops I forgot Rog had commented on my laptop last …. I forgot to change the names back!! That was me (Shirley!!!) not Rog … hahaha can you imagine him in a pair of cute nude pants?!?! *chuckling*

  29. Faye says:

Having an amply bust myself this is one area I am dreading so much, although we are a long way off wedding day so I will hopefully have plenty of time to find something once I’ve found a dress and slimmed my boobs and waistline down, I love backless but backless don’t love big bangers :(

I was looking the other day at undies for said wedding night and came across this beautiful set http://www.agentprovocateur.com/autumn-winter-2011/florine.html

Minus the suspender belt as Id just feel in Charlotte’s words a berk. Now I just need to lose a few lbs so I can actually fit the boobs into there largest size ;)

The things we do to put a smile on our man’s face.

    xoxo

  30. Katy says:

I went to buy my w day undies today!! got a lovely strapless bra and knicks from marie jo at Rigby and Peller. Not the foxiest but it will do the job!!

  31. Helene says:

I am having an underwear nightmare!! Like some of the other ladies on here I have a pretty ample bust (30FF) and although I am head over heels in love with my dress it is a complete pain underwear wise. It’s really tight and silk so anything I wear has to be seamless and on top of that the back is really wide and fairly low so I can’t wear a normal bra. Argh! And I always wanted SUPER sexy underwear for the big day (and a garter which is now out of the question) :(

I have, funnily enough spent most of my working day looking for the right thing. I’m thinking a strapless thong (for VPL) body but it isn’t easy as I thought. I’ll let you know if I find anything!

@Lou I got that Ultimo body – OUCH! It was so short it nearly cut off the circulation to..well everything!

  32. Abi Lady HarHar says:

Well… the dress has the whole in built corserty so I wont be needing a bra with that.

I was thinking spanx for extra cinching, but I didnt think about the whole ‘going to the loo’ thing so might just get some pretty french panties.

I like a lacy short brief or a frilly knicker…but most of the time its just pretty ‘practical’ undies… I will be getting a few nice bits for the Honeymoon though. I like to be able to mix and match so ‘complimentary’ rather than matching is what I like ;) Oh and as an 32E/F, bras tend to be quite well structured, I’d love to be able to wear those super gorgeous triangle ones.. but alas I have to have some pretty good underwiring… but I am lucky as I always have a bit of cleavage going on ;)

  33. Carrie says:

This thread has actually made me laugh out loud a number of times!

While we’re on the subject, without wanting to hijack, but what on earth do I wear underwear wise for w-dress shopping?? I am not the sort of person to own useful, seamless, nude type things, I have an array of cotton crap from Primarni! (One will up her game for the wedding night, promise!!)

Have first day of appointments 26th Nov…..VERY excited! xxxx

  34. Sarah says:

I’m the opposite to most of you on here (you lucky lot) and am a tiny 32a. I always wear lots of padding, so am desperate for a lovely ‘shepherd bra’ – let me know if anyone can recommend anything. Don’t want to wear chicken fillets – not at all sexy or comfortable and have had bad experience with them in the past! Am terrified of looking flat chested in my dress, so much so I’ve asked the dressmaker to slightly change the design to a sweetheart neckline which is a bit more flattering for me.

  35. Sasha says:

I wore no bra, and these…

    http://www.ameliasattic.co.uk/amelias-attic/product-details.asp?product=546

    Hey, they’re blue!

I did change into full on stockings and suspenders outfit at the hotel though – my hubbie would have been very disappointed if I hadn’t, even though I was absolutely exhausted and it was the last thing I wanted to put on! Oh the things we do for love…

  36. MrsA-to-be says:

Errr, aren’t you missing someone from the line up, Ladies?
Adam must be feeling a tad left out!!
    He he!

  37. I’ve got to say this thread of comments is hilarious – you guys are brilliant.

@Kristin J – you have to include a link pet so we can have a butchers.

@Shirley – Honestly I laughed so hard I cried!! Have you told Roger about his “pretty pants” for W-day?!

@Faye – I can promise you that you will NOT look a berk in that get up – ’tis both girly AND sexy.

@katy – Never been to Rigby and Peller, what is it like – as an experience I mean?

@Helene – Might be an option, my seamstress cut up a nude seamless bra (I had a bit of padding but you don’t have to) and then actually sewed it into the dress. I then didn’t have an unsightly back strap. If you excuse the erm (ahem) description … you basically hoist yourself into said cups and providing you don’t embark on any particularly mental dancing then you should stay put ;-)

@Abi Lady Ha Ha – I also like “complimentary” as much as matchy, CK is quite good for that – as are The GAP pretty panties with “plain” bra’s

@Carrie – I mentioned it earlier but La Senza do some good nude bra’s and pants (seamless) that are reasonable and good for dress trying. But to be honest as long as you have underwear that fits you well (and strapless if that is your dress of choice) then you will be fine – it doesn’t really matter if it’s black in the shop unless you are thinking of a transparent dress ;-)

@Sarah – Out of all the padded/lifting bra’s I have tried (there have been a few) La Senza T-shirt 3-way is my favourite. A nice “rounded” natural shape and if you do the straps up MEGA tight you get an ACE cleavage too.

@Sasha – You are my hero.

@Mrs A-to-be – Adam commented earlier – he is most put out!!

    Charlotte xxx

  38. LadyFushia says:

My dress was very supportive and I could have got away with no underwear….but thought my sister would have had a heart attack as she helped me get dressed ;) So I went with some duck egg blue silk knickers from Ell & Cee with little crystals spelling out “The Mrs” :D

About 2 days before the wedding I decided I’d be much happier with some extra support ‘up top’ so bought a pretty lacy version of my favourite strapless wonderbra – the only strapless bra I’ve ever had that didn’t head south five minutes after putting it on.

And for after The Mr had helped me out of my dress (lots of buttons) and we’d had a bath in the awesome awesome bath in I slipped into a gorgeous silk nightie from Janet Reger which was a bargain in the sales :)

  39. Rachie says:

I am going bra-less on the advice of the wedding shop people! Slightly nervous but hoping they know best! Therefore I am searching for lovely lovely luxury knickers – any recomendations anyone?

    xx

  40. Lydia says:

I generally wear very boring undies! But for wedding day I wore cute blue and ivory French knockers and stockings and suspenders. The dress shop suggested I go braless due to the style of the dress. I did take their advice but wish I’d worn a bra as I had lots of cleavage that could have been avoided!

  41. Laura C says:

@SpecialSundae – thank you so much for the What Katie Did suggestion. Perhaps I don’t have to resort to spanx after all!
Bloody underwear genius you are! :D

  42. Katielase says:

@Charlotte… you should go to Rigby and Peller. All women should go there at least once in their lives. It’s honestly a complete revelation, entirely changed my life. That’s no exaggeration, either.

    K x

  43. Em says:

As a big-busted girl, the only option for me – at the time – was a plain nude strapless number from Bravissimo, because it’s the only shop that sells my size (oh, I could’ve splashed out £100+ at R+P but didn’t fancy that!). My dress was corseted and if I had gone bra-less I could’ve ordered it in a smaller size than what I did, but my bangers look absolutely blimmin awful without support, and there was no way in the world I was going to do that on my W-day!! So the dress was fitted around my boobs and the wonderful seamstresses even fitted in some bra bones to hold the dress up and stop bra showing at the sides. They did say that I was unusual in not wanting it so tight at the top or insisting on wearing a bra, but seriously – I’ve been to weddings where the bride is literally bursting out of the dress and it looks so tacky. I’d rather breathe and not have to push the buggers back in all day, thanks! So if you’re bridal salon tries to convince you to go bra-less, just make sure you are truly comfortable first, or ask them if they can sew your bra in or add bones if you do want to wear one.

Ooh, and I had a spot of luck just before the wedding because I had to buy a new bra in a smaller size. So glad I did though, because Bravissimo have just started selling a bridal version of Evie, which is lush! And I ended up – for the first time ever! – with matching thong to wear with it! Win!

    Em xx

  44. Abi says:

Ha ha – this thread made me laugh!

Brings back happy memories from my wedding not so long ago. I’m a 36DD and couldn’t even consider not wearing a brassiere up top for fear of things going all Barbara Windsor in “Carry On Camping”. I also wanted some pants that wouldn’t cut into any flesh and not show up under my fairly slim fitting dress.

I found it impossible to find a very special strapless bra that wasn’t padded (anybody have better luck than me?). In the end I went for a simple M&S set that was ok but not very exciting. But my gorgeous dress made up for it. Ah, happy days! Your husband will just be completely over the moon that you are his and be far more interested in the lingerie’s filling rather than all the frills!

So I wouldn’t put too much pressure on yourselves to look like a Victoria’s Secret catalogue on your wedding night. You’ll have many happy nights ahead in your marriage for that!

  45. LadyFushia says:

Agree with Abi – when I pointed out how nice my very expensive knickers were he agreed but he didn’t really notice before I pointed them out, He was much more interested in them coming off ;)

  46. Rachel says:

Well mine won’t be particularly pretty – my dress is clingy at the sides so it’ll have to be those spanx that go down your legs a bit, or something like them (interested in recommendations!). I WON’T be taking them off in front of anyone though, I’ll change into something prettier before I take the dress off!

Then up top is also tricky as I’m around about a 32H – do I win the prize for most difficult bra size so far? Obviously the dress isn’t strapless but it is low, so I need a white plunge bra in my size which doesn’t let them move about too much and which I can adjust so it’s low at the back… or sew it into the dress. Oh it’s all so difficult… I’ll save all the sexy ones for the honeymoon!

  47. Sasha says:

Oh, and girls who have yet to be married – beware the garter! I had one around the top of my hold-ups, and was happily circulating among my guests when my Dad tapped me on the shoulder and said ‘Is this yours?’

Yup, it had completely slipped off my leg without my noticing and I had walked off and left it in the middle of the floor!

Still, it could have been worse…it could have slipped off while I was walking down the aisle!

  48. Rachie says:

Thank you ladies – I’m going to be taking that wonderbra strapless one to the fitting just in case i change my mind!

  49. PANTS.

this message is for MrsA-to-be and anyone else who cares…

    Adam.

  50. MrsA-to-be says:

    Ha ha haaaaaaaaaa! Priceless Adam!
Thanks for clearing that one up ;)

  51. It’s funny the pressure we put on ourselves to be the epitome of bridal sexiness on our wedding night, when generally sexy time gives way to something resembling staying up all night drinking with friends, or passing out from sheer exhaustion! I like that most of you are thinking about honeymoon lingerie, it didn’t even cross my mind to take something saucy away with us. I also love classic old school undies, like the entire content of what Katie did – I love the old fashioned negligie type garment (is that spelt right? Looks odd on my iPhone) but Mr O is a lover of the lace and corsetry.

I am going to buy some of these suggestions now, thank u for sharing!

Ps. Adam, you’re a bloke, what undies would thrill you on your wedding night?

  52. @Jenny – I’m a big fan of white actually – I like the whole stockings, suspenders thing (I’m a bloke after all) but I am also more than happy with plain white cotton panties.

Ok, this feels wrong… but I’ll carry on….

Up top you can’t go wrong with (what I think is called) a balcony bra… although I once had the p*ss ripped out of me good and proper by a group of girls at work for using that term… so it might not be correct.

Anyway they are good and can be lacy or again, just plain… Not had much experience with corsets Jenny (except for when I auditioned for The Rocky Horror Show that once) but I’m prepared to give them a go (If you get what I mean).

So to summarise – I like fancy schmancy but I also like understated no frills…. I guess that is a reflection of the fact that I like High heels and skirts, but also am a big fan of baggy jeans/converse.

    Adam.

  53. Oh Adam, I can’t believe you know what a balcony bra is!

I can just see you shopping in La Senza ‘Erm yes, I’d like a balcony bra please, in this size (holds up both hands and squeezes imaginary breasts)

    haha

  54. hmmm. maybe more agent provocateur…. but I like your size guide method.

You can’t go wrong with this
    this
and this IF they did it in white.

Now, I must go to bed as I am all flustered now.

  55. Naomi L says:

I love how this post clearly was Adam’s excuse for being up until 2:51am on Agent Provocateur’s website.

Remember those pictures of Gavin and I jumping on the bed? Well before the photographer turned up Gavin was dying to see what I had on under my sexy starlit gown.

Queue me running away from him around our honeymoon suite claiming that it had to be a surprise for the night… Little did he know that I was sporting a pair of seamless nude numbers that made me look like some weird non-sex barbie doll.

However, when we got back to the suite that night… we were so tired that we had a bath and were knocked out cold by the time our heads hit the pillows.

Good thing we booked two nights at our honeymoon suite, where the following night I wore this > http://goo.gl/7ZdIw (great for not breaking the bank) teamed with stockings and my wedding shoes. That went down well.

Charlotte, here are my links to my wedding knickers per your request.

I can’t find my wedding night lovelies but this is the designer, carried in many department stores. http://inbloombyjonquil.com/

  57. LJ says:

I also have the opposite challenge – 34A. I have never found a strapless bra that will stay put. Even the amazing wonderbra you mentioned just stood away from my chest – with a big gap between me and it no matter what size I tried :-( In the end I also went with having strapless bra sewn into my dress to give some shaping. I would advise having it sewn in Very Thoroughly as mine still tried to go walkies even when partially attached to my frock!

  58. TigerTea says:

Like Lou and Abi I also had a nightmare, with an ample bosom and a very low backed dress! There was no way I’d go bra-less, so I ended up with The Beige Leotard, aka the Ultimo bodysuit. Which was a hideous colour and also made for a teeny person (I’m 5’10) so I couldn’t even do it up. (I ended up cutting off the poppers). It was SO not sexy (grr) and I was a bit disappointed not to have sexy wedding underwear, but like a lot of the others we were so exhausted and, er, jolly after the champagne that my hubby didn’t even notice. But there’s clearly a gap in the market for reasonably priced wedding underwear for the ample-chested woman! :-)

  59. @Naomi – that’s it! A Barbie doll! Mr O’Shea is not a huge fan of nude underwear, I can see why. Loving your La Senza pretty.

@Kristin – Lovely, we do have some GAP underwear here but no-where near the range they have in the States, I always stock up when I go over.

@LJ – I know I keep wittering on about it but have you tried La Senza strapless? they do a 3-way bra thingy that is just the best shape.

@TigerTea – I think you are right you know. I mentioned earlier, my sister is a 30F and she has all sorts of nightmares with underwear. Maybe we should bring out a RMW range?

Another one who was shamed by my garter – only mine came off as I was walking back out of the church, I kid you not!!!

One of my guests picked it up and handed it to one of my bridesmaids. She thankfully discretly hid it and gave it back to me later!

  61. LadyFushia says:

Ah the garter. My younger sister (also my only bridesmaid) handmade me my garter from antique lace. I had an idea she had something in mind when she asked for the circumference of my thigh! It was beautiful and would have fitted perfectly if I hadn’t lost a bit of weight just before the wedding (stress!). It managed to stay put until me and the hubby popped down the road with the photographer for some shots of the two of us out in the countryside. I’d put my wellies on and everything to go rambling over the moors and we got quite an audience of hikers etc. It was just as I was carrying all the layers of my dress and veil back up the hill (looking particularly unsexy I’m sure) that I could feel my garter slipping down my leg. Not a cool look standing in the middle of a field holding your wedding dress almost up to your waist and trying to slide your garter back up your thigh with an audience – trust me! ;)

  62. Sasha says:

So, let the moral of these stories be…use a bit of tit tape on the garter!

  63. I have loved reading all the comments on this post… so funny!!!

After saying I didn’t need a bra for my dress I have gone ahead and bought this gorgeous one and the matching shorts from La Senza http://www.lasenza.co.uk/bridal/bridal_lingerie/level3.aspx?d=18&type=651&style=700964&product=010009711&img=SS1110_61 A bargain at only £20.00 for the set.

  64. Helene says:

After the useful comments I’m ordering the strapless wonderbra and might look into how to sew it in BUT the good news for everyone is that figleaves and BHS are both doing 20% today so it’s a bargain!

  65. HollyDove was Pockett says:

Haha! I am massively late to this party but I forgot to pack any knickers at all! I got ready at my Mum’s house the morning of the wedding you see..

We were on the way back from having our manicures done at about 6.45pm the night before the wedding when I suddenly realised that I hadn’t packed any underwear… My dress was corseted up to the eyebrows so didn’t need a bra… Cue me dashing to Next in Hays Galleria with 5 minutes before they closed hoping that they had white, sort of sexy knickers!

They did. Bloody uncomfy they were though :)
