Wedding planning has a knack of bringing out all sorts of emotions, this I was not prepared for! I was faced with decisions to make like who will give me away? And most importantly how will I get through my wedding having lost my dear Mum last year? This is when I knew. My wedding was going to be far from traditional, and that I just had to go with it!
When it came to knowing who to ask to be my bm’s there was no shadow of a doubt it would be my big sister, her grown up daughter, and my brothers two teenage girls. A family affair and a gorgeous gaggle of girls if ever I saw.
I knew I wanted my sister to wear something elegant, classic, and chic, and the younger girls to wear 50′s inspired swing dresses, I am a self confessed Vivien of Holloway addict and am proud to own a few of her creations, and the feeling you get when you don a swing dress and frilly underskirt rivals that of trying on your Wedding dress for the first time (seriously – they’re that good). My only issue was that my wedding dress is really chic and understated, and ‘the fear’ kicked in. Would it be possible that my girls would look so darn hot in their Viv inspired dresses that I might pale into comparison? Having looked on the internet for Bridesmaid dresses I felt a bit deflated, there seemed to be an awful lot of the same old stuff which although lovely, not to my taste.
So off I trotted to my local dressmaker with a head full of ideas, silly insecurities, and fully open to suggestion.
Within minutes she had her pad and pencils out and had knocked up a design that she could have very well plucked from my own mind, the relief I felt was palpable! It was agreed the three girls would have halterneck swing dresses, in different shades of vintage lilac with a contrasting bright purple underskirt for that pop of colour when they move. Result! Insecurities and worry over. Bespoke dresses for my girlies, so exciting!
Now left on the ‘to do’ list was my sisters dress. We ordered tickets to the National Wedding Show in the hopes to find some inspiration. Once there, again feeling slightly deflated and intimidated by how commercial it all seemed, we walked around for hours, in circles mostly (this may be due to the amount of Champagne we consumed!). Then we both saw it.
A dress.
An amazing dress at that. It’s like divine intervention because it was hanging at the back of the rack, the colour caught our eye and we made a beeline for it, (using our elbows to get through the crowd I’m ashamed to say!) and after chatting with the designer we just had to make an appointment to see her in London the following weekend. It felt as though Mum was looking down on us, guiding us towards it. Things were looking promising, it was all coming together!

Love Jen x

I love those dresses! How cool for a bridesmaid!
My bridesmaids are in black VoH dresses and they loved putting them on for the first time!! They keep talking about how they can’t wait to put them on again!
