I’m a self confessed Googleaholic. I thank the universe for Google pretty much every day of my life. How did people plan weddings before the internet was launched?? It’s a mystery to me. Thanks to Google (and Youtube) I’ve managed to find answers to all of lifes biggest questions. Like ‘how to plumb in a washing machine’ (yes I can now plumb in a washing machine), ‘how to use Ketchup to tone down green hair’ (I’m also a self confessed ‘dye your own hair’ addict) ‘whatever happened to Michael Flatley?’ and ‘what is Marryoke?’
As I mentioned in my previous post, it’s all thanks to some clever googling that I found Brian, the Van of my Dreams. And it’s also down to Google that I found the lovely Kim Hawkins, photographer extraordinaire.
Photography was initially a bit of a raw subject with Duncan from Blue and I. I love photography, I fancy myself as the next Mario Testino and I’m also guilty of having a good pose in front of the camera (depending on how much I’ve had to drink of course!) Whereas him indoors, well like a lot of people he hates having his picture taken. So we both had differing opinions on how much we were willing so spend on a fancy wedding photographer. I’d also like to point out that there’s good reason I refer to the big man as ‘Duncan from Blue’. He’s gorgeous, and he takes a ruddy good photo. He just doesn’t know it.
So I contacted Kim, and made an appointment for her to come round and show us her goodies! A top tip for other Brides to be who are in the process of sourcing their vendors – it’s so important for it to ‘feel right’ when you are dealing with them. It felt right when I found my dress, it felt right when I found Brian the Van, and it felt right when I met Kim.

Her level of professionalism surpassed my expectations, she also had a vast library of photo’s for us to look through, we loved every single one and still even now we can’t imagine having photo’s of ourselves that are so amazing!
We aren’t after the stiff boring old formal shots, we want something a bit more jazzy, contemporary, arty, and after looking through Kims portfolio, and masses of photobooks, I declared in a rather excited fashion
“oh Kim, make me look like a rock star……!”
To which she replied ‘How do you feel about laying on the ground with your dress on…?’

And the deal was done. I think it’s a match made in heaven. We have a pre wedding photoshoot, some small funky cards with said pre wedding photo’s on (to hand out to our wedding guests with our online gallery information on), and we have Kim for as long as we need her for throughout the day. None of this ‘charge by the hour’ malarky. I am so thrilled to have found her, and we’re already thinking of some quirky places in London to have our pre wed shoot.. roll on next summer!
Lots of love
