I’m on fire at the moment, with regards to planning that is! All the important things are booked, ideas are all on paper, dress is being made as we speak, it’s going well and the clock is ticking away. Only 7 months to go til the big day, and we’ve been engaged for almost a year!
I’ve started to think about my hen weekend in Brighton. Or ‘getting married party’ as I seem to keep calling it, I don’t mean to call it that it’s just I still can’t get my head around the fact that I am a hen! I don’t feel like a hen, I don’t want ‘L’ plates or naff tiaras or anything generically hen-like, I feel itchy just thinking about penis straws and dare’s! I sound like such a misery guts don’t I?! I can assure you I’m not. I don’t need ‘L’ plates and willy straws to make a complete show of myself I manage that just fine on my own thank you very much!
I’ve also started to think about getting a band booked for the mahoosive evening reception we’re planning. With only 7 months to go I’d better pull my finger out!
I’m at the stage of planning where things are just ticking over nicely. Budget is in check. The Budget Spreadsheet is in check (and looking really colourful) I am starting to feel as though this is the calm before the storm but I’m enjoying it as it is. I have done so much ‘budget bothering’ lately and recommend other brides haggle their backsides off, if you don’t ask you don’t get! We’ve still not chosen invitations, however we have been given a good price by www.loveweddingprint.co.uk but are still on the lookout for something a little ‘different’. I fell in love with these invitation tea towels from www.weddingteatowels.co.uk very eco friendly, and certainly different!
I have contemplated making invitations myself but am wary of taking on too much. I have loads of D-i-y bits and bobs from Hobbycraft, and am a lover of the Reeves watercolour paints, so may attempt a mock up this weekend. I also have a sample invitation on it’s way from www.zazzle.co.uk which I designed myself, this site is a little like Vistaprint but I found Zazzle has more variety (it’s a little like Primark you have to wade through the crap to find the hidden gems!) I do however keep having to remind myself not to spend money like it’s water!

Our lovely Church has put dates in our diary for meetings, to fill in questionnaires about our relationship and what not. We have to prove we are ready for marriage and that we agree on lifes biggest issues! It’s quite scary, but in a good way. Our Reverend is a really lovely man, with a big family. And although Mr O and I aren’t avid church goers they have really made us feel welcome, and as the time draws nearer I think (I hope) we will go along to Sunday morning services, so that it all feels a little more familiar and homely to us when we get married there.
The nightmares have begun though. Anyone who’s been through a wedding of their own will know what I mean. I can only imagine they’re going to get worse too! The last one I had was me in a dress from Woolworths, marrying a boy I used to play kiss chase with at primary school. He was still 7 and I 29….
Bit wrong?!
Love
Jenny xx

I love What Jenny Did – it’s one of my favourite bits of RMW. It makes me feel…..normal!

I get married 7 months today so this is ringing very true – I had my first nightmare the other day – woke up in a cold sweat as I’d forgotten to book a caterer (strangely that is one of the few things that is sorted so was just my mind playing tricks on me!) I’m also on the look out for invitations, though pretty sure we’ve decided on one of the lovely Hello Lucky designs.

I get married in 7 months and 1 week, and it’s almost like i could have written that! Budget spreadsheets, booking bands, needing to pull finger out… check. Looking forward to more “what Jenny did…” as it keeps me up to date with all the things that i should be doing too! Yay!
I get married in 7 months too. I colour code my spread sheet daily!! Had two wedding nightmares this week, i was 2 hours late for the church and was going dressed in a next to nothing white ‘tarty’ dress. Not good.
)
Love the website girls… it’s my little bit of pleasure morning and afernoon.
I’m 7 months and 1 week today too Rachel meaning you must be another 11th Sept bride! I too love the What Jenny Did posts for the reasons already mentioned.
I have most of the major things ticked off, except flowers. I’m so not in to flowers and choosing flowers means I have to pick a colour scheme which I’m trying to avoid liekt he plague! I dont want a colour scheme or a theme (not having bridesmaids or ushers means we don’t really need to thankfully!) but want it all to look very chic-ly co-ordinated. Maybe the thought of organising the flowers is worse than the actual doing it – I just can’t seem to bring myself to pick up the phone and make the call. Maybe I’ll get H2B to sort them out HA!
Dress FINALLY found and bought last week and stationery samples due in this week…check out Vicky Trainor if any of you are still on the hunt for stationery.

I love the positive encouragement ladies, half the time i’m writing these posts thinking ‘ugh this is boring crap’. Gives me such a boost to read such lovely comments, thank you so much! Good to know we’re all at the same point of planning too, there’s only so much you can do in advance.
I need cupcakes, and rings. Forgot to mention those! I’ve seen a few cupcake suppliers locally… but they’re not what i’m looking for at all i want something really chic, and may copy what our RMW Charlotte did for her wedding!
Also, AJS, don’t be scared of flowers. This is the first thing I did book, however we don’t really have a colour scheme either so I don’t think it really matters. Fresh flowers always look beautiful, no matter what their colour so why not do a Gok Wan approach and go for whatever colours you desire, who cares if they clash! Who said you even need flowers? I’ve seen people with feather bouquets, button bouquets, twig bouquets… heck you could carry a teddy bear down the aisle if that’s what floats your boat ;o)
I’m off to check out Vicky Trainor now

Well I am very worried now as my wedding is on 24th July and I still have loads to sort out I am also doing most things myself as my budget is tiny………gulp!!
Stacey – don’t panic. Just do it in bite size chunks and you’ll have no problems at all! Do you have anyone that can help you out? 24th July is plenty of time x
I had the most awful dreams in the run up. Usually around the theme that I didn’t have enough time to get ready – typical! There was me walking up the ailse thinking “Oh my God, my dress isn’t on properly, I have no make-up on, my hair is still wet” etc etc.
Complete nightmare!
Also that the photographer didn’t turn up. Had that dream a few times too.
AJS – How about just white? I love all white – so chic. Or throw in a bold statement colour, any shade you fancy just make sure you LOVE it.

I have 6 months and a week and a half to go!! Its absolutely flown by! I am uber excited though! I picked up my beautiful bridesmaids dresses yesterday and my stationary arrived today looking abslutely fabulous! Thats a couple more boxes ticked…still lots to go!
Charlotte & Rebecca…I’m not sure if you guys are still offering your help but I am totally lost trying to find a necklace and have just about given up…like you guys I am looking for something to drop down my back but don’t know where to go! If you have any spare minutes (Which I doubt you busy ladies do) I would absolutely love your help!
PS: Rebecca, I would say I was the creative type but no way could I attempt making my own!!!

Jenny when are you going on your “getting married party”? I might see you there hee hee!
Im glad your vicar is lovely, sadly ours wasnt and we have changed to a civil ceremony.

I love the What Jenny Did posts, they make me laugh out loud in an stoney slient office!! My H2B is the budget botherer in our relationship, but I can’t moan about it – someone needs to keep me in check!! Can’t wait to keep hearing your progress Jenny, good luck!! xx
Love all your posts Jenny!
My horrible (getting married in thick hockey socks, my Louboutins and a puffer jacket!!) dreams have stopped with 4 weeks to go and I kinda miss them!
As for the “getting married party”…I dreaded the whole idea of L plates and penis shaped everything and made the girls really limit it….it turned out (as you have seen from the pics) that they ignored me – although not too many rude things) and it was SO much fun!

thanks Jenny my H2B keeps saying to me lets have a meeting it will all be fine which you would think would be great but what he actually means is “lets go to the pub you can drag your wedding folder along and then you can talk and I will nod my head and look off in the distance whilst sipping my pint!” so far I have got my dress, brides maid dresses are on order, booked the marquee, booked the ceremony, booked the honeymoon, got my shoes, sent out save the dates. Because we are doing most of the wedding ourselves this includes flowers, invites, the catering, the drinks, the djing, the cake, the photography (with help from friends and family) all of that is still to organize.. lets just say its going to be a challenge but i am a control freak so hopefully this will help me with the organizing and planning xxxx
Natalie – are you going to Brighton too? MIne’s booked for weekend of Aug 20th, hope the weather will be good for us! When are you going?
Charlotte – the wet hair nightmare, you pre-empted me (or planted the seed) I had that one last night!
Sarah – that’s good that you have someone in control of the spending, finances aren’t my strong point at all and it’s got so bad now that i’m like ‘sod it, lets pull out all the stops’ without thinking about the consequences (like having two starving hungry cats for example – and having to live of low fat supernoodles for a year myself!)
Lucie AKA Chubbs – I love your hen photo’s we’re going to go to the tea room you suggested too! only 4 weeks to go… I am getting so excited for you keep me posted on how things are going, and if I can help with anything make up related!
Stacey – i’m with you on the control freak thing, you will be fine it sounds as though you have remained calm an have it all under control! For invitations I would recommend loveweddingprint.co.uk, they have millions more designs than listed on their website, and they’ll even design you your own if you tell them what you fancy, they are really (dare i say….) cheap! Compared to most other fancy invitation companies I have seen anyway. I think we’ll be going with them. I’m dealing with a chap called Clive, met him at the National Wedding Show last year and he’s been brilliant with my non stop ‘can you do this? can you do that?’ requests.

Yes to the scary wedding nightmares! I’ve certainly had a few myself, maybe the scariest one being where I married the best man! Oh dear. There have been a few others where I’ve run out of the church as h2b saw my dress (he’s sort of allowed to by then!) and things like caterers not turning up (we’re in a hotel for the reception and not even having caterers). Another 5 months of them to go…
I’m a 1st May Wedding girl and now it’s less than 3 months away it’s all becoming quite real! I love these posts as I can ensure i’ve done everything!!!
The problem I have is that I keep changing my mind!! Have been suduced by all the lovely ‘nude’ colour dresses in the shops and am trying persuade my bridesmaids to change their dresses!!
I got my invites from Hello Lucky and I’m SO chuffed with them! We got letter press for the day and digital for the evening to save some money and they’re stunning! We’ve had so many compliments!
Jenny,
We are going 31st July! Im getting married 28th of August.
Exciting x x
