What The Other Wife Liked This Month…

December 14th, 2009 by Rebecca@rockmywedding Leave a reply »

So since Charlotte and I became real-life ‘Partners’ in blog land there has been another Wife on the Rock My Wedding team… because I am after all not just Contra, but Mrs Contra :)

(A role I like very much, in case Mr Contra is reading this!)

So every now and then, you’ll be reading about and seeing, what THIS wife liked in recent times and I hope you will let us know if it’s something you liked too!

New Moon

It’s a little while ago now, but New Moon has to be top of my list. I gave away a little bit of my Twi-hard status by blogging about Bella’s Wedding dress some time ago and I was a little bit disappointed to see that the dress didn’t actually make an appearence in the film, deviating slightly from the book. Other than that I thought the film rocked big time, …and erm, hello Jacob! Anybody else switched teams? ;)

New York, New York!

Mr Contra and I took a little trip over to the Big Apple last week, for a spot of Christmas shopping. (There is light at the end of the ‘saving for wedding’ tunnel ladies and boy does it feel good!) New York just has to be my favourite place on earth, full stop. I’d pack my bags and go live there tomorrow if I was lucky enough to be asked. We stayed at Hudson, saw the sights, shopped what felt like the whole of Manhattan and generally got into the Christmas spirit big time. And as it was Mr Contra’s first time, he loved it.

One of my favourite ever shops Anthropologie used to be a big highlight for me any time I managed to cross the pond. It must be the best representation a shop could be of my personality. It’s the oddest collection of the prettiest touches for your wardrobe and home ranging from glitzy to cute, home made to high glam, domestic goddess to park avenue princess.

FOW2

And the point of me sharing this? Not to rub your nose in the lack of it here in the UK but to spread the word that Anthropologie has come to the UK, London’s Regent street to be precise. And there’s also a new store opening in the spring on Londons Kings Road. Hurry up and bring it to the North people, then Charlotte and I can make a trip under the pretense of official Rock My Wedding Business!

FOW1

Anthropologie must stock some of the world prettiest occasion dresses perfect for a chic Bridesmaid, gorgeous baubles to complement your wedding day look and tons of cute trinkets and treasures that could be truly unique thank you gifts and favours. Even the website is a gorgeously styled creative treasure trove of inspiration to drool over. Well worth a visit in either cyber space or reality.

Christmas Cheer

This weekend has mostly revolved around Christmas for me. Christmassy night out on Friday, choosing the tree on Saturday and decorating it on Sunday, plus making my Christmas cards. I love choosing a real tree, it drives the boy MAD as I get the poor tree-man to unwrap nearly every one in the quest for a perfectly formed specimen, but the smell you get with a real one is one of the things I love most about Christmas and irreplaceable in my house.
FOW3
I’m a traditional with a twist kind of girl and collect Christmas decorations from all over on my travels, making getting them all out and reminiscing all the more fun. The tree is decked out in tons of white fairy lights then silver white and red decorations, a bit vintage-skandi with childhood touches. This year I have mostly been lusting after all the gorgeous mercuried and vintage looking decorations in the shops, mainly The White Company as shown above middle and I always love the selection of Linea decorations from House of Fraser Some of my other favourites come from Gisella Graham.

Behind the scenes Gossip…

FOW5
It’s been a while since we shared any behind the scenes info with our lovely readers and you certainly haven’t heard any from me so I thought I’d tell you a little about what Charlotte and I get up to and have been plotting for you all, he he he!

I’m pleased to be able to say that one of the best things about this here blogging malarkey, for me, is the friends I have made along the way… and although I didn’t even know Charlotte 5 months ago, since our first emails (Back in August you will surprised to find) it’s quite scary how such a random start can have lead to such a complimentary partnership, which wouldn’t be half as good if I didn’t think she was kinda cool ;) .

We have been truly lucky to find each other as whilst Charlotte has been generous to invite me into the Rock My Wedding team which is the best job ever, I’ve also gained a friend. Not only that but we have become friends with other wedding bloggers, most notably Kat of Rock’n'Roll Bride who has been unfailingly good at keeping us sane this last week (Kat, you’re a star!), but more on that later…

You would not believe if we told you even half the effort that goes into bringing you, the reader, the most exciting things in the world of wedding blog land, and sharing our favourite finds. I swear, we must speak on the phone at least 3 million times a day and our inboxes are scarily overflowing with team communications. We have had more than a few planning meetings so far (which are never long enough) and have to be banned from discussing blogging at the dinner table when dining with Mr.’s O’Shea and Contra. I’ve got to say I’m pretty excited about the next one over the Christmas period.

And all that dear reader is to bring you the best and most original wedding inspiration. And we have a little change to announce… From today, you will be able to check back throughout the day for new content. We know that loads of you out there will be reading this first thing in the morning to break you into the work day, or perhaps even over your breakfast, so there will still be a piece of Rock My Wedding pretty to satisfy you early on. I always hit a mental low after lunch so with that in mind we will be posting our second item in the afternoon, to perk you up and help you get through ’til home time with some unique and definitely oh so chic gorgeousness.

So that’s all for now folks, pop back later for the first part of our first Real wedding this week.. I’m on the edge of my seat, it’s just that good!

Yours Truly,

Contra
xoxo

I went to New york about 10 years ago and Anthropologie was my favourite shop and I was very excited to read that they were opening a store in London I havent been yet due to the thought of fighting the christmas shoppers but I will be hop skipping and jumping my way there in the new year. Love hearing about behind the scenes and very much looking forward to more installments throughout the day (there is no hope for me doing any work now) :-)

Am really looking forward to the additional posts throughout the day.

ps – Afraid I have to disagree with you on the Twilight front though, Team Edward!!!

Posts throughout the day? No chance of productivity here either!

I may be completely on my own here but I haven’t read/ seen any of the Twilight stories. Have no fear, they are on my ‘to do’ list….

    xx

  5. Glad to see some other grown-up twi-hards on here (It’s so embarrassing queueing for the opening day showing amongst a bunch of spotty teens!)

Second installment coming right up ladies….

Oh my god – I finally started reading the Twilight series (Well audiobooks as they distract me at the gym – sad I know!)

I am only just starting Eclipse, but I have stayed awake far past my bedtime to listen to the rest of New Moon over the weekend.

I haven’t seen any of the movies yet, I want to finish the books first. I am so excited.

Although I think I am now realising that the audiobooks (supposedly unabridged) are not the same as the books, the wedding dress isn’t even mentioned in the audiobooks yet, she is still deciding about marrying him at all at the beginning of the Eclipse audio book.

This makes me mad as i’m now going to have to re-read the books as well!

Team Edward all the way, he must be amazing in the film to have you all on Jacob’s team!

I was totally panicked during New Moon that Bella was going to do something totally stupid and kiss Jacob – it got rather too close for my liking.

Grrr – i’m now going to have to listen to it at lunch, I am in such a hurry to find out what happens!
