Winter in White… Part 1

Charlotte and I see a lot of weddings here at Rock My Wedding and so it takes quite a lot to completely blow me away. And this one does exactly that. Another wedding chock full of details to inspire, a completely knock out one-off gown and kick-ass photography to boot. Seriously, you’re going to love it. It has totally restored my faith in what we do here.

Oli and Sinem got married at Moxhull Hall in Sutton Coldfield. Big Thanks to Steve Gerrard, the photographer who totally rocked this wedding, and I’ll hand you over to the Bride Sinem for all her planning tips…

The Dress

My dress was designed and made by Maureen Myring Kesterton in Olton Solihull. It was the only place I went to as I just knew it would be the right shop.

I went to my first appointment with some cuttings from magazines of dresses I had seen. I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted, all I knew was that I didn’t want a dress that looked like any other wedding dress, I wanted something different that no other bride would be wearing.

Myring sketched a design of a dress for me based on our ideas and I immediately knew it was going to be perfect.

It was a strapless fishtail design with a corseted beaded bodice and a full skirt of several layers of tulle. The back of the dress was the main feature…it had a large flower at the bottom of the bodice with many smaller flowers trailing down the length of the dress

It was a brilliant experience having a bespoke one-off dress made as I could see it at all stages from the calico fitting to the final finishing touches, however it was a bit scary as I didn’t get to see the finished article until very close to the day, but I was confident it would be fabulous and knew it would fit perfectly as it was made just for me!

The Accessories

I decided not to have a tiara as it didn’t work with the hairstyle I had chosen. Instead for the day, I had a gorgeous diamond brooch pinned in my hair with a short veil, detailed with beads (designed by Myring to go with the dress). I changed these in the evening to a silk flower (also made by Myring) which matched to ones on dress.

I wore beautiful drop diamond earrings, which I bought while on holiday in the summer and on the actual wedding day Oli gave me a thin silver bracelet decorated with diamonds, which was from Tiffany. I felt fabulously sparkly!

The Shoes

The shoes were possibly my favourite…

So I wrote Mr Louboutin a letter as I had an amazing idea that he should do a bridal range with blue soles instead of the signature red ones so they could double up as something blue (good idea or what?!). Sadly my idea was dismissed so I had to ‘make do’ with the heavenly pair I found in Harvey Nicks….beautiful 5inch silver peep toe Christian Louboutins. Amazing and surprisingly comfortable! I bought them 9 months before the wedding and had to stop myself from wearing them out! Instead I wore them in secret round the house when Oli wasn’t there!

The Hair and Make-Up

I decided to do my make-up myself as I didn’t want to look over done. It also gave me an excuse to go to New York for a break before the wedding, where I got lots of tips from a Bobbi Brown make up artist, bought all the necessary items and had an amazing time.

I went for a classic look with neutral eye shadow, black liquid eye liner and mascara. I used a light blush on my cheeks, to give extra colour in the photos and wore pink ‘rose petal’ lipstick. I also had a calgel manicure and pedicure to make sure everything was perfect on the day!

My hair was done by Maxine Morgan, a hairdresser from Wolverhampton. I wanted something elegant, but low maintenance so I wouldn’t have to worry about it at any point in the day. I finally decided on an ‘Audrey Hepburn’ type style where my hair was swept back into a high chignon. It included a hair piece to give extra volume and about a thousand grips which took forever to dismantle afterwards! The bridesmaids’ hair was also done by Maxine in a similar style.

The Bouquet

I knew I wanted everything to be white for the wedding but was not sure on the flowers at first. I had some help from Julie from Ad Lib in Hall Green Birmingham. It was her ideas that helped form the arrangements, she did several mock ups based in our initial discussion, in the months leading up to the wedding, which I think is a really helpful way to decide. Together, we eventually decided on white Amaryllis with white Hydrangeas for the centre arrangements for the wedding breakfast, and bouquets of white Hydrangeas for me and the bridesmaids, with small hydrangea petals for the button holes for the groom and grooms men. It was the wrong season for the flowers and we knew it would be difficult to source but decided to go ahead and keep our fingers crossed. As the day drew closer it became apparent that it was unlikely that hydrangeas were going to be available so it was back to the drawing board.

I was initially disappointed as I really didn’t want roses or any other typical wedding flower and felt that the initial idea would have brought something different. Julie was brilliant and came up with some other amazing options. We finally decided on using old English Chrysanthemum blooms in place of the hydrangeas, as these have large fluffy heads and come in white, and best of all they’re very unusual!

They looked incredible, I think even better than our initial plan would have. My bouquet was a large bunch of white chrysanths with pussy willow weaved around the edges…it was gorgeous and I later found out that Oli’s grandma (who’s 90!) had chrysanths as her bouquet 68 years ago and it made her day!

The Bridesmaids

Being a winter wedding I decided that everything should be white, including the dresses for the bridesmaids dresses and 2 flower girls. Myring also designed their dresses and tied them all in with my dress. The bridesmaids wore one shoulder corseted dresses, with flower detailing on the shoulder strap, that fell straight to the knee and had a frill around the hem.

The flower girls wore dresses with shoulder straps that were beaded and had a full skirt from the waist.
We all looked amazing when we were together!

I am bursting to share the rest of the details of this stunning wedding with you all!

Come back tomorrow for the rest! Eeek!

Yours Truly,

Rebecca
xoxo
