Planning

Are you getting married this winter? Or maybe next? We love this time of year and think it's a truly magical season in which to get wed. With a winter wedding it's easy to get carried away and be very festive (and I must admit, Christmas trees and wreathes DO appear below)...but if you can do it in a stylish way, then why not? Candles and foliage always look incredibly elegant and with flowers at a minimum during the winter, it makes sense to use what is available to you. So here's our ten tips for having a stylish winter wedding, just keep your fingers crossed for snow...!

1. LET IT SNOW

Sadly we can't guarantee snow for your wedding day, but if the weather gods are kind and grace you with a dusting - then goodness me, doesn't it look beautiful? Those of you having a ski resort wedding rejoice and make the most of it! The gorgeous couple below really embraced their snowy surroundings. You can see their wedding in full here.Winter Wedding

2. CANDLES

Obviously, candles are for life, not just for Christmas, but they truly come into their own during the festive season. Don't scrimp - litter your tables, fireplaces and alcoves with them and you will be rewarded. The final effect is nothing short of spectacular... 3. OH CHRISTMAS TREE

If you're getting married at Christmas time, then you might as well embrace the season. Your tree doesn't have to be reds and greens - how gorgeous is this neutral tree below? 4. KNITWEAR

Naturally, during the colder months, you'll need something warm to keep you cosy on the day. It's an excuse to purchase some lovely knitwear and you'll look ridiculously stylish a la bride Karen, who wears a Richard Nicoll silk slip and jumper combo. She remains one of our all-time bridal style heroes, and looked amazing on her winter wedding day which was planned by Knot & Pop and shot by The Curries. (Oh and THAT bouquet is by Pyrus). 5. METALLIC RIBBON

One of my favourite things about the winter season is embracing ribbon, especially gorgeous metallic ribbon. It adds a much-needed touch of light and shimmer to a bouquet that is foliage based, rather than filled with blooms. Ask your florist to use thick ribbon, double up on the amount AND keep the length to really make an impact. Winter Wedding Bouquet With Foliage & Silver Ribbon

6. MULLED WINE & HOT CHOCOLATE BAR

Trust me, if you're having a winter wedding, a mulled wine (or cider) and hot chocolate bar will go down a treat. Wedding days can be long for guests and it's nice to make sure they are feeling well looked after to keep spirits high. Plus these gorgeous drinks stations help you to decorate your venue, making them both pretty and practical. Discuss ideas with your caterers to make things simple, you don't want to be warming up milk or wine on your wedding day, so while you can DIY the set-up, make sure someone else is responsible for the serving on the day. 7. MISTLETOE

Weddings are naturally filled with love, but there's no harm in adding a little more encouragement to proceedings, with generous helpings of mistletoe strung in bunches around your venue. It just looks so festive and lovely - and I actually think much prettier than holly. Plus it'll make for some gorgeous photographs of couples cuddling up for a kiss beneath the foliage. 8. BLANKETS FOR SNUGGLING

In a similar vein to the hot drinks, making sure guests are warm enough by providing a heap of blankets to cosy up in is a lovely idea. They don't have to be expensive - IKEA always have a great selection of fleecy blankets for a good price and they often have lovely prints too. Blankets For Guests At Winter Wedding

9. WREATHES

If you're having a Christmas tree, then you may as well have a wreath ;) there's no reason why it has to be overtly festive either - we love a minimal one, filled with foliage. You can always add texture with ribbon and berries if you'd like to inject a little more colour. Winter Wedding Decor Minimal & Elegant Wreath

10. SPARKLERS

Given that it gets dark in UK around half four during the winter months, you may as well use this to your advantage by creating some stunning sparkler photographs. Set up a sparkler station so that guests can help themselves and read this post on RMW to make sure you've followed all of our top tips. Whether you're embracing a Christmas theme or not, hopefully, there's some stylish inspiration for you above. And I don't care that it's only November - here's to a wonderful festive season :)
