Planning

When it comes to wedding trends, as a team, we're usually pretty united - give us flower crowns, foliage installations, a doughnut wall and some festoon lights and we're a happy bunch. I guess that's why we all work here at RMW. But this year, smoke bombs are back. And it seems there's nothing more divisive than a smoke bomb. A lot like marmite - you either love them or hate them. Which camp are you in? Let's see if we can change your mind...
Smoke Bombs At Weddings?! Hell YES
Social Media Manager Lorna is ALL for the flares "I don’t think I’ve come across a single smoke bomb capture which isn't radiating with joy. Whether they are intimate couple portraits or epic wedding party shots, everyone's faces are alight. Plus they are a really fun way to incorporate your colour scheme with a well-chosen flare. Or you can go all out and have the rainbow. It just goes to prove nothing should be off limits when it comes to your wedding photography. You never know you could be the inventor of the next wedding day trend...but for now, long live a smoke bomb picture I say!" Amy who works on our supplier directory, The List, is also in the YES camp. "There are so many extras planned into a wedding that are there for the benefit of impressing your guests. Fabulous food, flower installations, table decor etc. What I like about smoke bombs, is that they are an indulgent extra that is purely for the couple's benefit. They create a little magical moment captured within a photo that the couple can keep forever. Away from their guests and family, just for them."
Smoke Bombs At Weddings?! Hell NO
I very much fall in this camp. Each to their own of course. It's your day, your way after all, but this is a trend I really don't understand. At best it adds a random bit of colour to an already lovely image. At worst it looks like someone is standing by with an eighties smoke machine, while you gaze lovingly into each other's eyes. Weird. Or, you and your other half are awkwardly holding them up, armpits on show, while your photographer has to shout 'up a bit' 'down a bit' until you get the positioning just so. Because what's worse than a smoke bomb image? A wonky smoke bomb image, that's what. For the record, all of the images in this post are epic and almost changed my smoke-bomb hating mind. If you're going to shoot with smoke bombs, make sure you're using a great photographer such as the ones in this post, who can all be found on our recommended supplier directory, The List.
