How to work from home successfully

Many of our incredible suppliers are currently working from home (the Rock My Wedding team included), and we understand it can become a little, well… difficult. With new restrictions in place, it is more important than ever to ensure your WFH space is a safe haven; somewhere you enjoy heading to (even though it may just be down the hall), and somewhere you don’t feel isolated.

Remember, working from home is NOT bad, in fact, there was definitely a point in which we were all looking forward to it! So, it’s time to slip back into that positive mentality and make the best out of this situation! Trust us, there’s a lot you can do from home that you wouldn’t do in the office (like whacking out those squats at your desk…)

Here are 6 easy ways you can make working from home more enjoyable.

Get Up, Get Dressed

It is all too easy to spend your day in your pyjamas, and honestly, we understand! There are some days when you just want to roll out of bed and head to your laptop, but, the more this happens, the more you may feel a little worse for wear. There is so much to be said for heading to that shower and getting ready as if you were going to the office! It’ll clear your mind and start your day properly.

Find A Routine

Even if you don’t realise it, we can guarantee you have some kind of routine when you’re in the office; perhaps you sit down, check your emails, head to the kitchen to make a tea. Well, whatever it is, make sure you bring it to your home office! It’s incredibly easy to remove all sense of normal life when working from home, and that’s because you’re comfortable. Find the balance you would have whilst working in a space with others - we’re certain you’ll feel your concentration levels rise.

Jazz Up Your Space

If your home office is looking a little sad, then it’s definitely time to invest in a few things to liven up your area! A few plants, some pictures, a colourful notepad, honestly, there’s a whole bunch of stuff that doesn’t cost the earth, but it’ll look far better than your lonely ol’ laptop sat by itself all day. Not only that, ensure it is comfortable; a good chair may be a little more money than you wish to spend, but trust us, your back will seriously thank you for it. Take Breaks

When working from home, you can feel a little guilty moving away from your desk, however, if you think about it logically, your day in an office is filled with little breaks! You move away to speak to people, make drinks, have a little chat on your way up the stairs - it’s completely normal. So, be sure to normalise taking breaks within your home. You could set an alarm on your computer, or allocate time slots within your day in which you need to get up and walk around. Whatever it may be, just be sure those eyes of yours aren’t turning into squares…

Break To Workout (We know, We Know)

Unfortunately, when working from home you are quite stationary, so it’s a good idea to spend a little time doing a few quick workouts throughout the day. There are now so many quick win workouts you can do to get your heart rate up and don’t require any kind of equipment. We would also suggest heading outside and into the fresh air at some point during your day, that little bit of vitamin D will do you the world of good.

Speak To People!

Slack may be the saviour of all instant messaging, but it can become incredibly impersonal and isolating. When you’re not seeing and speaking to people on a daily basis, you don’t realise how much it is affecting you, until it’s affecting you. Be sure to organise regular Zoom calls with your team members, even if it’s just for a quick catchup. And, if you’re looking for something outside of work, there are now plenty of online communities, forums and groups looking to combat loneliness during lockdown. Do not be afraid to reach out and look for others who may be feeling similar to you - it’s completely natural to experience this emotion during a very unusual time!

Do you have anything to add to this list? We’d love to hear from you! Remember, this won’t last forever, and Rock My Wedding are right there with you as we attempt to move through this unpredictable time - we’ve all got this!
