Inspiration

Ok so Abbey & Oli's wedding is one of my all time favourite weddings EVER - I've been looking forward to blogging it for a really long time. For a start the photography is from Marcos Sanchez, whose work and style the whole RMW team adore. The couple portraits are smoking hot. Seriously. Abbey also happens to be wearing Grace Loves Lace, who make the most incredible wedding gowns. And the styling was done by Best Day Ever who have a knack for putting together the coolest events. I mean just look at the table set up around the pool! The whole day is beautiful, stylish and looks like such fun. Enjoy this one, I'm hoping you love it as much as I do...

Something Old

Abbey The Bride: I wore were heirlooms of my grandmother’s (who both passed away last year) left to me: a pair of pearl earrings and an engagement ring I wear on my pinky. Both of these items are by far my most precious possessions and wearing them on the day made me feel like they were in spirit.

The Groom

Oli went to Crane Brothers in Sydney to have a Linen suit custom made. Being 6’5” he was a tough body shape to fit but Chris from Crane Brothers worked his magic to create something unique and perfect for the Barcelona heat. The accessories were picked up when we went via London on a wedding planning trip: leather loafers from Crockett & Jones and tie + braces were from Drakes. On the day Oli wore cufflinks given to him by his Granny on his 21st birthday.

The Venue

The was a gorgeous villa situated in the hills above Sitges, 40 minutes south of Barcelona. For the decor we went with green and white with a dash of mustard. A very Mediterranean vibe that complimented the amazing venue while reflecting the Spanish setting. This was a concept we developed in conjunction with Yolanda from Best Day Ever who styled the venue. Yolanda from Best Day Ever organised the flowers from the markets and dressed the venue. My bouquet and hairpiece was from Estudio Sauvage in Barcelona.

The Ceremony

The ceremony was amazing and that was all thanks our celebrant, Toby Harper. He personalised the entire thing using information Oli and I provided privately and his lighthearted and uplifting speech had everyone smiling and laughing. After the ceremony and throughout the night (even now!) we still get comments about what a great service he did. Because it’s so hot in Spain in July we couldn’t begin the ceremony until 7pm so it was mainly an evening event. When guests arrived we had a Spanish guitarist, Daniel De Silva, near the welcome drinks and for dancing we had The Funk Boss Brothers.

The Food

Catering was done by Cal Blay with an emphasis on lots of tapas-style canapes during the aperitifs and a lighter dinner + dessert served at the tables around the pool. For our wedding cake we picked out four wheels of cheese and stacked them on top of each other. Our wedding planner Val (from Weddings Via Val) went above and beyond the call of duty to accompany us at the local market in Sitges, finding the right size wheels and flavours was much harder than we anticipated and having someone to translate made the process much smoother. On the day of the wedding everyone was too full to get into the cheese post-dinner but we had a lunch (or La Comida) the following day around the pool and it went down an absolute treat! The entire thing was eaten by the end of the day.

The Photography

The magnificent Marcos Sanchez. We spent what must have been hundreds of hours tracking him down and he was worth every moment. Once we found Marcos so many things fell into place because he has a style which reflected the look we were going for and as a result knew the vendors we needed to achieve it. It turned out his wife was an amazing stylist, who not only styled the venue but helped me to bounce ideas around and shaped the decisions for my bridesmaids and wedding dress. He also put us in touch with Monica Frias, our Videographer, and to top it all off he invited his good friend and photographer Igor Demba to come along and capture the day. Our wedding wouldn’t have been the same if it wasn’t for our discovery of Marcos, he delivered photos that were more beautiful than we could have ever imagined while also bringing together a team of wonderful and talented people. For that we will always be in debt to him.

The Videography

The beautiful Monika Frias. The final edit hasn’t come through yet but she did the most beautiful little snapshot that gave us goosebumps. We can’t wait to see the final product!

The Wedding Planner

I also want to send a shout out to our Wedding Planner, Val from Weddings Via Val. She was recommended to us by the owner of Casa Felix, and was probably the most worthwhile investment we made into the entire event. Every detail was managed perfectly, I was so relaxed the entire time and the day wouldn’t have been the same without her and her amazing team working tirelessly behind the scenes.
