Inspiration

We're heading to the peak of the United Kingdom today for an authentic Scottish wedding captured by Aberdeen wedding photographer Nicola Stewart Photography. There are tartan kilts, personalised touches using Doric dialect and an abundance of inspiration. We particularly love the Edison bulb top table backdrop, as well as the etched wooden table name signs and cake topper. Keep your eyes peeled for Melissa's wildflower bouquet too. It'll knock your socks off.

What Made Our Day Unique

Up in the North-East of Scotland we have a dialect called 'The Doric'. We're both very proud of our Aberdeenshire roots and speak it all the time and we wanted our day to be filled with wee nodes to the dialect. Everything from our invitations to our menus, from our ceremony to our vows, they were all either written or spoken in the Doric. We had so many comments on how personal this made our wedding and that was the exact feeling we wanted.

Melissa & Michael

Aberdeen Wedding Photographer

Melissa and Michael both have small businesses so it was really important for them to use local suppliers. They chose Aberdeen wedding photographer, Nicola Steward Photography to capture the photographs, who was assisted by Jade Esson Photography and Simple Wedding Film. You can search our handpicked supplier directory by location, so not only do you know you're hiring someone you can trust, but you could also meet up with them and discuss your wedding plans with ease.

Inspiration & Style

We always said we wanted our day to be fun and relaxed with a nod to our Scottish roots. And of course, being Scottish also means we love a party! We kept the styling simple and focused on things which meant something to us. Michael is a cattle hoof trimmer so our table names were cattle breeds, we had cattle ear tags as place settings and we even had highland cow horns on the top table! We also had nods to my business as I sell Doric cards and gifts so all of the décor was written in Doric and drawn/made by me.

Melissa & Michael
Melissa and Michael had two readings at their wedding ceremony. One was written and read to them by Michael's younger sister, Beth, and the other was by their close friend, Peter. Having a close family or friend read a small extract to you during your wedding ceremony can be an incredibly intimate moment. Especially when the words perfectly describe your feelings or relationship. If you're still searching for the 'right words', we've popped together a few articles with our favourite, non-religious, romantic and funny readings to inspire you. rock my wedding forum
