Inspiration

I have a tendency to overuse the word magical - but in my defence, SO MANY of the gorgeous weddings we feature are magical! And Adri and Igor's fairy light filled Spanish wedding is absolutely the definition of the word. Just wait until you see the images of the little ones playing on the swing, adorned with twinkling lights. It's just beautiful. The lovely couple are both Spanish, but living in London and so they chose to return home for their big day, choosing a gorgeous country house and estate to hold their celebrations. The 'theme' was stars - as they are a lucky charm to the couple, hence the gallons of sparking lights. And luckily the Spanish weather allowed them to soak up the atmosphere as dusk falls and the lights truly come into their own. Get ready to be blown away...

The Dress

Adri The Bride: Igor and I have been living in London for more than 10 years now, Igor works in finance and, after a few years working in marketing, I am now starting a career change in interior design. London will always be our city, it was here that we first met and became good friends, it was here that we started as a couple and it was finally here that Igor kneeled and proposed on a random day, although admittedly it was clear to both from the very first moment our relationship would be a long lasting one. Igor is from Getxo (near Bilbao), where we had our engagement party with our families and friends, and the wedding had to be in Castellón, near the Mediterranean Sea, where I was born and grew up. We had a welcome party, the night before the wedding in Villa del Mar, a spectacular old reconverted villa by the beach in Benicasim, especially for all those coming from outside of Castellón.

The Ceremony

The wedding ceremony was at 4.30pm, and although this is an usually early time for an evening ceremony in Spain, we thought it was perfect way to benefit from the sunshine before and after the church ceremony, enjoy the sunset during the reception and have the dinner and party during the darkness of the night. Everything turned out just perfect! We had a wonderful mildly warm spring day.

The Theme

The theme of the wedding was stars, we had the conviction this would be our lucky charm so the more stars the better! For the ceremony we chose the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Lledó, a church with significant family history as my parents and other members of my family also celebrated their marriage here. It is a beautiful church surrounded by orange trees in the outskirts of Castellón de la Plana, which we simply decorated with baby’s breath.

The Reception

The wedding reception took place at the Finca Mas del Pi, a stately yet charming country house located 8km from the church and also surrounded by large amounts of orange trees. There was an intense scent from the trees throughout the entire wedding as the orange flower was blossoming, which turned the atmosphere into something almost magical.

The Dress

The dress… was just unique! It was designed by my mother-in-law Garbiñe and her partner Juana, lead designers of their own fashion firm called “Jota más Ge”. A true piece of haute couture. My shoes came from British brand L.K. Bennett, which I bought in London. My earrings, art déco style, were a gift from my parents. I bought my headdress from Ani Burech, and the wedding bands were a gift from Igor’s grandmother which we bought in Burlington Arcade in London. My hair was done by Charo, owner of Brushing salon in Castellón, as she had been taking care of my hair since I was 8 years old. I got my grandmother’s wedding band sewed into my dress as my something borrowed, and blue underwear that I got as a gift from my friend Eugenia.

The Decor

I had a very clear idea that I wanted a very romantic and tasteful wedding with a countryside touch, clearly nothing ostentatious. I was very lucky when it came to flowers to decorate the wedding venue as exactly the ones I wanted were in season, and Raquel from Nana London (Castellón) did a marvelous job preparing everything just the way I had dreamed about it. The venue itself where the dinner and party were taking place is somewhat modern and impersonal, so we decided to give it a complete makeover by changing the lighting and giving it a more cozy feel. We added micro-bulbs and pastel-toned fabrics throughout the entire ceiling, all with Farfala Bodas who did a splendid job. The car that took me to church and brought us back to the reception venue was a typical London cab, a very familiar transportation for us that we have used for years now on a regular basis. My mother was in charge of dressing our nephews and nieces who participated as page boys and flower girls during the ceremony.

The Details

Everything related to the design of the wedding invitations, church booklets, seating plans etc was a gift from my friend Cristina, co-founder of www.disenolowcost.com. Every detail of the wedding had our personal touch and we included stars just about everywhere, from the website we created for the wedding to the invitations, church booklets and table numberings. The catering was provided by Grupo Peñalen, great professionals who only work with local produce of great quality. Selecting the photographer was an easy task, I had been following Jimena from Volvoreta Bodas for a long time in various blogs and I simply cannot be happier with the result! The video was done by our friends but also great professionals and creative couple from Wanna Filmmakers. Our friend Jabato Dejotacop was the dj in charge of the music not only during the party but he was with us during the entire weekend also participating in the Friday party. Igor, who is a huge music fan, helped him adapt the music to our taste. The Spanish band We Are Standard (Igor’s brother Deu is the lead singer) performed during the wedding and made everyone dance until their feet hurt! We had our first dance to the tune of Jesus, etc. by American band Wilco, a song that brings us great memories from the beginnings of our relationship. It was a very emotional wedding all throughout. Our best friends Sara and Galo made lovely speeches, and later during the dinner it was the turn of our older brothers and Igor, who welcomed everyone and also had some beautiful words for me. There was a lot of tears and laughter! Our friends surprised us with a flash mob towards the end of the dinner to the song titled “Mi gran noche” by the Spanish artist Raphael, also with enormous and striking fireworks display and a video with all of them in it. We couldn’t ask for more! We were simply dazed. I would like to mention my good friend Laurita who was the mastermind behind all of this. I used my flower bouquet to pay tribute to our grandmothers, and it was handed to Igor’s grandmother as the living representation of all of them. Jesusa, a brilliant woman. Also important to mention is “El flash de Lineta” who prepared an amazing vintage Photo Booth that has produced incredibly fun pictures. Finally a special thanks to our friends who prepared absolutely the best hen and stag weekends for us. Well I think that’s all… Without a shadow of a doubt, it was THE best weekend for us ever!
