Ambika & Jarri are just the cutest – some absolutely gorgeous portraits were captured by Lemonade Pictures.
And they didn’t just have one wedding but two, a traditional Indian affair complete with an abundance of colour and dancing and an English ceremony and reception with the prettiest cake and fairy lights.
Ambika’s traditional Asian outfit is stunning, such attention to detail – and the gold embroidery matched perfectly with her choice of epic Jimmy Choo’s (Yes, we are VERY jealous of those.) Apparently the heavens opened during the outdoor nuptials but it didn’t seem to dampen spirits, the rain just made for some lovely moments with umbrellas…..
Ambika The Bride: Jarri and I were lucky to have two wedding days! A traditional Indian wedding full of colour (and lots of bhangra), and an English ceremony and reception. That meant double of everything, from the outfits to venues, caterers and cakes. I lived in London and Jarri in Leeds, so that meant a year of late night planning over the phone and Jarri’s car clocking up the miles on the M1 for viewings, fit- tings, etc.! If that wasn’t challenging enough, I was also studying for my finals at dental school whilst planning which meant we needed super organisation (Evernote was a lifesaver for making sure everything was on track!). Thankfully after all the organising, everything fell beautifully into place and our wedding week was everything we had wished for!
We were having an English ceremony but still wanted to incorporate our Asian heritage with a traditional outfit. I trawled through countless Asian bridal magazines until I came across this one. I took my parents across London to Mongas, and when I tried it on I knew it was the perfect lengha. The outfit was very heavy but I loved it and knew that the excitement of the day would carry it for me! I went for simple jewellery to compliment my embroidered oufit from Kyles Boutique. The service is amazing and they spent hours with me until I had my perfect look. My shoes were Jimmy Choo and were love at first sight!
You’d think that buying a navy suit would be a simple task…not for my very particular husband to be! Jarri ‘researched’ cuts, grains and cloths till he found his perfect suit and tie from Pal Zileri, Ceremonia Collection. His shoes were brown double monks from Church’s.
We fell in love with Blake Hall on the first bright sunny day we went to visit. It is a converted barn with stunning gardens, perfect for a summer wedding. They also have cottages on the grounds for the wedding party. It was the perfect place to wake up and get dressed with my Mum and Sisters on my wedding day. On our wedding night, we were welcomed in to the honeymoon lodge with flowers and a showreel of photos from the day. A lovely personal touch!
Peonies are my favourite, and our florist did a beautiful job of blush pink and white roses and peonies for my bouquet, the table centrepieces, and heart-shaped wreaths to decorate the outdoor registry area. I saw giant letters from Vowed & Amazed on Rock My Wedding and had to have them! Our J&A was a real hit! Not only did they help to subtly light the dance floor, but they looked amazing in all the photos. Having our name (almost) in lights made us feel extra special on our big day.
I had always dreamed of having an outdoor ceremony. Blake Hall was perfect for it and things (considering British weather) were looking good as we had gorgeous weather all summer. Then two days before I checked the weather forecast for our day…Hurricane Bertha was heading to Essex! The morning of our wedding it was pouring down and, a little disappointed, we had to move the ceremony indoors. As I began my walk down with my Dad I realised we weren’t heading to the barn, and our guests were stood outside, lining the aisle. Jarri had taken full advantage of the parting clouds and some sunshine and moved the ceremony back outdoors so we could have our perfect wedding! The sun stayed strong right till we were pronounced man and wife and the rainclouds returned with a vengeance! Seeing our guests running in to the barn for cover was priceless!
We had a string trio perform to entertain our guests on arrival. They played a mixture of classical and modern songs and were excellent. They performed outdoors and were extremely professional despite battling with the elements!
The Cassettes live band were AMAZING! Our guests loved the live music, and the band were so good at getting everyone on the dancefloor. At the end of the night nobody wanted to leave!
We met Nichola from Lemonade Pictures for a chat over coffee to discuss ideas about the wedding. We had already been on her website and loved her beautiful photos so we were so excited to learn she was available for both our days! She made us feel so comfortable and all of our guest commented on how lovely she was. Seeing her photos after confirmed that we had chosen the perfect
person to photograph our big days. She and Marcus had managed to capture wonderful moments that we would have otherwise missed!
