Inspiration

We are completely in love with the laid back boho vibes of Amy and Dan’s Wedding. They celebrated with lots of friends and family at The Green in Cornwall surrounded by the beautiful Cornish countryside. You definitely get a sense of their personalities as the wedding is full to bursting with decor that reflects their style. Hiring vintage props from RMW recommended supplier Virginia's Vintage Hire to add to the already gorgeous rustic venue. Arranging a treasure hunt for guests, making the most of the picturesque surroundings and providing personalised cocktails at their outdoor bar. You also need to see Amy's fabulous Alice Temperley London gown. The breathtaking blooms. The utterly adorable flower girl and page boy, who were gifted the most genius kids favours ever, and their homemade Victoria Sponge naked wedding cake, towering high and laden with berries.

Venue

Amy the Bride: We have always had a soft spot for Cornwall! From many a holiday, to celebrating our engagement, we have always adored the incredible scenery and rustic charm. When we discovered The Green, Liskeard we immediately fell in love; a beautiful venue, providing a romantic, intimate, Cornish setting beyond our wildest dreams! We especially loved how the exclusive hire allowed us to shape a day that was truly reflective of us and extend our celebrations throughout the weekend with our nearest and dearest. We loved the idea of everyone getting together for a little holiday! Spring was our season of choice, with The Green made all the more magical with the whimsical hedgerows, bluebell woodland and sweeping fields. We held our ceremony in the quaint barn, followed by drinks under the arbour, a lakeside blessing and festivities in The Green Room! Each space beautiful in it’s own right, whilst little touches injected our own personalities.

The Decor

Our main aim was to ensure that our day was truly reflective of us! With a background in events, I wanted to ensure that everything felt cohesive, taking guests on a little journey of us from the moment they received the save the date, through to our photo montage and festoon that lit our first dance. Our day was a truly homemade, family affair, with friends and family contributing to different elements throughout the day. From music, to poems, make up, to illustrations, to cakes and more it was wonderful to see people within our lives interwoven throughout, making everything all the more meaningful. We are so grateful for everyone who contributed. Taking inspiration from RMW, Pinterest, wedding fairs and the cornish countryside we settled for a rustic, whimsical theme alongside a palette of whites, blues and slate greys with added brown card (our favourite colours and key Cornish tones!). All with added personal touches. Some of our key features included a bold, blue fabric hanging in the barn (it was actually a tablecloth!), coordinating tablecloth at our reception drinks and matching napkins at our reception dinner! Homemade palette signage, an eclectic selection of vases and jars, twinkling silver tealights and incredible light bulb lettering that my dad made for us! Vintage furniture from Virginias Vintage Hire continued our theme; vintage shutters with added foliage provided a pretty backdrop for our band, old fashioned coat hooks acted as a cloakroom for guests, a rustic wooden table and old game rack created a perfect photo wall to display our favourite memories, whilst their elgin bar provided and mirror provided a picturesque base for our cake bar. Our favours continued the Cornish feel with fudge packaged up in little brown boxes. We didn’t want the kids to feel left out, so created activity boxes full of crafts and treats to keep them occupied throughout the day, alongside bespoke superhero capes for the boys and fairy wings for the girls!

The Flowers

We wanted florals to compliment the whimsical, eclectic scheme we had created, nothing too structured but, wild, natural and ultimately Cornish! Susanne from The Blue Carrot was perfect for this, her incredible artistic flair beautifully displayed in each arrangement that she created for us, using her own home-grown flowers. She made the most beautiful bouquet and flower garland I have ever seen, all with impeccably blended colours and incredible attention to detail, right down to the gorgeous silk ribbons to tie each arrangement. Table flowers continued the wild feel; we ordered bucket flowers from The Flower Mill and arranged them into an array of collated vases and jars, whilst hand tied posies framed the aisle. Vanessa provided an amazing spread of home grown flowers all in simple white tones with plenty of foliage!

The Stationery

Our stationery was a little homemade collaboration to further inject a hint of us! My sister beautifully illustrated delicate florals and hearts to echo details throughout the day, whilst Dan combined these with pretty fonts for a whimsical design. We printed these onto brown card; a theme that we adopted throughout our celebrations with additional details such as blue ribbons and twine for a finishing touch. We were aware that guests were travelling a long way to share in our celebrations, so wanted to ensure invitations were as informative as possible, including details such as venue maps, local accommodation and taxi numbers, all of which my mum stitched into the invitations!

The Dress

Having always dreamed of the free-flowing, boho gowns by Alice Temperley, I headed straight to one of her stores to explore the bridal collections. I bought the first dress I tried on! (I did of course try on a few others) I fell in love with the fit, the incredible lace detailing, the gorgeous cream/ivory combination and the soft tulle. Amazingly it fitted perfectly and only required a small alteration in the length!

Beauty

My best friend is an incredible beautician and looked after all my bridal beauty, including nails and makeup. She did an amazing job and it was so lovely as meant I was totally at ease with getting ready! The brilliant thing was that we went makeup shopping together, so I was able to continue to wear my bridal colours after the day! I decided to do my own hair, I didn’t want it to look overdone, just simply styled, paired with a beautiful flower crown!

Rings

Dan absolutely wowed me with my engagement ring! Working with Carol Clift jewellery he designed the most beautiful ring. It was absolutely perfect! It was therefore, not a question, that we would then return to Carol to make our wedding rings. Carol was amazing to work with, her incredible craftsmanship shines through with every piece she creates and this especially rang true with our rings. Taking into account all of our suggestions she crafted our rings with the utmost attention to detail.

The Accessories

The incredible Gillian Million, Teddington provided the most amazing veil shopping experience! With a specialism in handcrafted wedding accessories, Gillian created the most beautiful silk veil, designed especially to compliment my dress, taking into account the length colour and fabric. All discussed and designed over tea in her glorious sitting room setting, making the experience all the more special.

The Bridal Party

The bridal party were all in keeping with our colour scheme, each bringing a different colour! Our lovely bridesmaids wore slate grey dresses from House of Fraser, they picked the dresses themselves which was great as I wanted them to feel confident and comfortable on they day. It was a great choice. Our flower girls wore white, tulle dresses from Monsoon, paired with silver pumps and flower garlands. They both looked adorable and it was lovely how their dresses were almost miniature versions of mine! The page boys wore blue printed shirts from Monsoon, paired with a blue pinstripe waistcoat and grey trousers. They looked so cute!

The Photographer

We struck gold with Ross Talling! Not only is his photography outstanding, he has the most amazing ability to capture the story and detail of each wedding day. In in every one of his images there is a beautiful sense of a moment, atmosphere and life. I just love looking back out our photographs, they just bring back all of our memories and emotions from our wonderful day! Ross was absolutely wonderful to work with and just fitted in with our day, he was subtle and flexible throughout, we have heard nothing but compliments from our guests.

The Cake

We are so fortunate that our wonderful friend Phil is the best cake maker! He totally rose above and beyond to the challenge of making our wedding cake and created the most delicious, enchanting wedding cake ever! It was such a wow moment seeing it for the first time! He went to great efforts to ensure that the cake was perfect, including our very own mini cake tasting. His lovely wife, Kerry decorated the cake beautifully with berries and flowers, whilst jam made by friend Jackie added the finishing flourish. In addition, Pink Elephant cakes created a glorious array of bakes and scones for our cake bar feature, all of which were truly delicious. Nicola was wonderful to work with and really got on board with the cake bar vision which was brilliant, providing brilliant suggestions for alternative, flavours, sizes and decorations to create a true variety of cakes. Our cake bar was completed with a collective of homemade cake toppers! My wonderful theatre-design university pals made miniature, theatre-style models to top each cake, it was so much fun when they unveiled these, we were totally overwhelmed by their imagination and creativity and it was so amazing for them to be part of our special day.

Grooms Attire

Dan wore Ted Baker on the day, a gorgeous grey tweed jacket with purple velvet lapel (his favourite colour), paired with a grey waistcoat with fine purple cheque design. It was very him and we loved the sneaky hint of purple!

Entertainment

The Fabulous Fug Band provided our evening entertainment and boy, did they fill that dancefloor! My cousin is the drummer for the band and having seen them play a few times we were totally confident in them to provide the entertainment for our evening reception! They were absolutely fantastic, providing hit after hit, and were so receptive to our guests, whilst also accommodating our first dance request and of course, travelling all the way to Cornwall. All in all they are amazing.

Catering

The Green provide a brilliant array of food throughout the day. Lynda was wonderful to work with and went the extra mile to incorporate some of our ideas, even sourcing champagne saucers and edible flowers for our bespoke English Garden Cocktails. The food was incredibly delicious and served beautifully; highlights include Cornish Antipasti boards, Hog Roast (Dan even had the opportunity to mark the first slice with a sword!), Late Night Pasties served with Mulled Cider! We also brought our own popcorn in striped bags and biltong to be served with the post-ceremony drinks for a little twist on generic canapes.
