The Venue
Anna the Bride: Having moved together to Brixton straight after uni, we absolutely wanted to get married at home - our home, not our parents’. The venue is across the road from our flat, perhaps 40 metres from our front door, so we certainly managed to stay local!
Help
We have lots of talented friends, so luckily everything involved them. Clare from uni made our wonderful and delicious cake, two different friends DJ’d, two incredible friends did all the flowers (accept the gorgeous bouquets and button holes made by JamJar Flowers). Susan Early (one of my bridesmaid’s mum) weaved willow hoops for us to hang flowers from. We made rhubarb vodka. Ben’s mum made the favours... a real tribute to how incredible they all are.
Wedding
We wanted everything to be very relaxed. We got married at the beautiful Peckham registry office on the Wednesday just with our parents, then jumped in a cab to go to our favourite place in South London, The Dairy in Clapham. We then spent Thursday getting Brixton East ready with lots of friends and family, then had everyone back at ours for a huge curry before shipping them off to get some beauty sleep. Food was all served in big sharing plates which worked given the little space between the tables, but also we liked it, again, being a more relaxed affair. Our caterer had a great idea to serve all the sides in tiffin boxes - I love that.
Advice
A tip I’d give any bride - go and buy your own booze! We made a holiday of it with all the family and inlaws, staying for a week in a gorgeous villa with a pool, tennis court, gorgeous weather, and only a 20 minute drive away from hundreds of Vinyards. We got our champagne from a tiny little producer called Vollereux - hugely regarded but small and family own, so much better value. All the wine came from majestic at a great rate, and they pay for you to come over and get it.
