What Made Our Day Unique

We got married in London, our hometown, on the beautiful heatwave Easter weekend. We chose the stunning Asylum Chapel for our ceremony - it's atmospheric interior and incredible grounds in the heart of South London - and new venue The Deck on the South Bank, right on the river Thames. It was the perfect mix of old and new. I opted for no veil and instead had a statement hair pin. We had just one bridesmaid (my sister) and a best man - no groomsmen. We had a best mates top table, a hexagon cake, I bought my dress from Australia via email with the designer, we had a neon sign, a London bus, my mum's ivy from her house hung in both venues, homemade Damson gin favours, sharing style Spring lamb & colourful sides, and pizza & a cheese tower for the evening. We had a neon sign of our first dance made for our house and had it on while I got ready!

Inspiration & Styling

We always knew we'd get married in London, where we met, live and love, and Asylum was our first choice of ceremony venue - we booked our date 2.5 years in advance! But London reception venues are hard work, there are so many restrictions and curfews around what you can and can't do. In our 2 years, we went through 3 venues - two closed down after we'd booked them, the second about a year out from the wedding. I'd had enough and felt exhausted by trying to find somewhere again. Then we found The Deck - about to re-open after refurbishment and on the roof of the building I work at, the National Theatre. The team were so flexible and amazing to work with. We had 70 people in the day - close friends and immediate family, and another 30 in the evening. The vibe was fun and relaxed, with the best bits of traditional with modern, city twists.
