Becky & Michael

It never fails to make my day when I read that the couple who’s real wedding I’m putting together to feature on the blog found their photographer via Rock My Wedding. That’s exactly what Becky and Michael did in order to discover Matt Parry – and my, aren’t the images beautiful?

I love the festival bohemian vibe of this relaxed affair, sunshine, garden games and brightly coloured blooms provide the perfect backdrop for what looks like an amazing party. Did I mention the decor? the marquee looks spectacular, an abundance of paper poms and streamers hanging from the ceiling.

Also I want Becky’s hair. And headpiece. And sequin covered converse sneakers.

Becky The Bride: From the word “YES!” myself and my (now) husband worked together to create a day that we would treasure forever. Our main priority was to share our celebration with our close family and friends (and to also have an open bar). We were adamant that we wanted to get married on Jersey. I moved to Jersey over 6 years ago to live with my husband after our eyes met in the romantic student halls of Bournemouth University over 10 years ago. We have a wonderful life here on the rock so there was no doubt we would take the next step in our lives on an island that means so much to us.

The Venue

One of our favourite events on Jersey is the Autumn Cider Festival at Hamptonne Country Life Museum. It’s a working farm museum with cows,
chickens and pigs. Ever since I was a little girl I had always dreamed of my wedding outside in a meadow and this venue had a meadow! (Box – ticked!) We were thrilled when we were able to book it through Jersey Heritage for an August Bank Holiday weekend. We love music and festivals and wanted to bring that festival feel to the day, we wanted people to feel relaxed and just enjoy each others company aswell as the surroundings. Julie and her colleagues at Jersey Heritage were a joy to work with and helped make our vision a reality.

The Flowers

It was very important to us that we had suppliers who we could trust. We met our florist at a wedding fayre in Jersey, Clara from Wild Thyme was so personable and genuine, straight away she was giving us ideas for not just the flowers but also the whole decor. Her enthusiasm and excitement was infectious. I spent an evening at her house with my bridesmaids helping to make paper chandeliers. Her final creations were amazing and we have remained friends since.

The Decor

I became a bit of a Pinterest addict and collected many ideas from decor through to shoes. There were a few shots both my husband and I loved on Pinterest and we worked with Clara to create the desired look. My husband collected lots of bottles, we both took to origami and made over 500 stars for the table confetti, I loved the romantic japanese tradition of a bride making 1000 paper cranes to signify longevity of marriage…. I didn’t quit make 1000 but with the help of some awesome friends and a few glasses of wine we made near 500! These became our place settings and favours which went down a treat.

A good friend of mine leant us lots of bits and bobs from her recent wedding which helped save the pennies. My chief bridesmaid’s mother in law made us an amazing cake which we had fun decorating together and I was very proud of my attempt at the figures on top.

My friend drove me to the wedding in his amazing VW van along with his friend who followed us in a two VW van convoy with the bridesmaids. It was very fun and both my parents loved riding with me in the van with my chief bridesmaid up front.

The Photography

Finding the right photgrapher for the wedding was one of the most important things on our list. I found Matt Parry through Rock My Wedding. As soon as I saw his work I needed to find out more and within a couple of months – and a lengthy Skype session – we had him booked. Matt was awesome, we flew him over from the mainland and it was worth every penny. He knew exactly when to give a Bride space and when to remind the Bride and Groom to take it all in.

We are over the moon with the results and all our friends and family love the shots.

We hired a Photobooth for a couple of hours in the evening and it was loved by everyone and served as great entertainment as well as providing some hilarious photos of our friends and family.

The Food

For the food, we wanted something relaxed so opted for a pick your own picnic and a barbecue buffet. This was done by A&L catering. Andy at A&L runs our local Cafe; Cafe Louise, where we have spent many a morning. So it all felt very personal. We were open to all his ideas and everyone raved about the food on the day.

The Entertainment

For the Music, we had a last minute acoustic band step into the shoes of a friend’s band who had to unfortunately cancel. The acoustic band was incredible and having live music really made the day feel extra special. For the night time we had our friends DJ some tunage which was awesome and people just did not stop dancing!

The Fashion

I took the opportunity of dress shopping on the mainland to spend some quality time with my Mum. We visited three shops and I reserved one
dress. However, back on the island of Jersey I took my bridesmaids to The Bridal Boutique. They were fantastic and we found my dream dress!: La Sposa Misouri. Both of my parents came to visit and I made sure they both liked the dress before saying Yes 100%. I didn’t enjoy any of the veils that I tried on and opted for a forehead band from Liberty in Love. I loved the relaxed boho look and was delighted with the result. Getting married on a farm does challenge a bride in the shoe department. I. Spent. Forever. Looking for the right pair even though they would be covered by my dress. I finally found the perfect pair on etsy.  If I were a pair of shoes – I’d be those shoes. They were an amazing pair of handmade sparkly converse from Cinderellasparkles11 on Etsy.

I had six wonderful bridesmaids and two fantatic flower girls. For the bridesmaids I had to stick to a relatively small budget and wanted to find something
relaxed and pretty. After a number of amusing fails, I found a dress from Dorothy Perkins by Jolie Moi. I loved the ruffle detail on the top and the skirt was fun and pretty. It suited all 6 girls and everyone enjoyed wearing it on the day. For the flower girls my sister found a gorgeous ivory dress from Monsoon. It was perfect and went well with the bridesmaid’s dresses. For shoes, I found a cute pair of white lace wedges from New Look which worked perfectly.

As it was to be an outdoor summer wedding we both thought it we be cool if Michael wore a blue suit. He found the perfect one with his best man in london at Moss Bross. We found the tie a week before the wedding at M&S – the pattern was perfect!

We never resigned ourselves to a set colour theme but instead opted for a relaxed vibe that had accents of us in the bright colurs and vibrant atmosphere. I rely on my man to keep me organised and in the last couple of weeks everything came together. We became even closer as a couple even before we exchanged vows, as I realised how much Michael is able to keep me calm and level headed through a rather emotional time.

My advice to any bride is to relax and go with the flow. A couple of things didn’t go to plan on the day but it was those things that we now laugh about and they add to the uniqueness of the day. Remember : No one is judging you on your wedding – you are not on a Wedding Reality Show (if you are then I bow to you – but don’t let it dominate the day). The most important thing is that you and your man exchange vows, no words can describe how incredible that feels. Nothing will prepare you for how out of this world you will feel. Just hold on to his hand and everything will go smoothly. Remember it’s not one day it’s the beginning of the next wonderful chapter. Everything else is just a bonus.

  1. Oh wow! how beautiful was every single aspect of this wedding?!! I enjoyed looking through it so so much. I pinned a couple pictures too. The photographer was amazing! I think it may be my favourite I’ve seen featured on rmw so far !! I’ve always wanted to wear ‘annie banks’ style trainers to my wedding but wasn’t sure how it would ‘look’ but now I’ve seen this beautiful bride wearing her sequinned converse I think I will definitely go with my gut instinct! – I’ve never been a fan of heels before so why start now! 😀
