Relaxed celebration meets glamorous party for this DIY wedding with brown bridesmaid dresses and a bespoke bridal dress. Rachel and Nathan's big day was on December 28th, how else to perfectly round off the year! Set in their home town of Liverpool they tied the knot at St George’s Hall, before travelling in style in a friends personalised Mini to their a warehouse reception celebration. Complete with espresso martini cocktails, an epic pampas grass floral installation, and an asian inspired buffet meal. So much of this party filled day was created by the bride and their friends and family including the amazing stationary, table plan and bouquets. A great example of a DIY wedding filled with genuine love and character and all captured by Luis Calow.

What Made Our Day Unique

Having so much of our day created and helped by our amazingly talented friends was a real highlight for us as it showcased their talent really well. I had a bespoke wedding dress made by my good friend, Jessica Bennett, and had one of my oldest friends do my hair. We had parents and aunties baking cakes for our desserts and friends who were bartenders pouring our espresso martinis from the nitro keg. Myself and my bridesmaids had many DIY nights designing and creating all of the stationary including name cards, menus and table plans. We created our own table arrangements using dried flowers and made our own flower bouquets. My amazing bridesmaids also made me my dream flower installation which hung over our table and tied everything together. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

Brown Bridesmaid Dresses

The brown bridesmaids dresses and dried floral bouquets perfectly complemented the bare brick industrial style of the Liverpool wedding venue, decorated with festoon lighting and a personalised neon sign. Scale Liverpool reminded the couple of the ‘The Loft’ in New York and the famous underground disco parties which inspired the couples music choice for their dream day. And of course how can I not mention the stunning bride wearing a bespoke Jessica Bennett dress which was teamed with a fabulous pair of bright pink statement heels and a half up half down hairstyle, topped off with a powerful white blazer for this cold December day!

Inspiration & Styling

Right from the beginning of planning our wedding we wanted the vibe to be party! We wanted a relaxed informal celebration with all of our favourite people in one place which is why we chose to have our wedding in between the Christmas and New Year holidays as we knew everyone would be in the party mood. We fell in love with our venue straight away and knew it didn’t need much adding to it as we loved the bare brick industrial style. So we added in our candles, festoon lights and personalised neon to create the perfect glam party. It was the perfect contrast to our ceremony in the grandeur of St George's Hall. We knew that we wanted local suppliers and we didn’t find this difficult to source. For our food we wanted a mix of our favourite Asian food which involved a buffet of Indian, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese. This went down well as it helped to create a relaxed vibe. One of our good friends is a wine geek and so helped us source some awesome table wines from Les Caves De Pyrène, admittedly this wasn’t local.
