Claire & Al

This is a truly wonderful classic wedding, full of personal details, DIY and the perfect princess Suzanne Neville gown with lace bodice and full skirt that chose the Bride!

Wedding venue Homme House in Herefordshire went above and beyond Claire & Al’s expectations creating a welcoming retreat as well as a dream wedding day for them and their relatives travelling from France and Wales.

All the family & friends couldn’t do enough for this gorgeous couple. Grandmas & Aunts went on a booze cruise to source the wine, Mothers made Welsh cakes as wedding favours and everybody chips in to make this a dreamy wedding to remember.

Bridal Outfit

Claire The Bride: As most brides say, my dress found me – it was everything that I said I didn’t want – strapless and big! I tried on a lot of dresses but the designer I fell in love with was Suzanne Neville. The structuring of the bodice is amazing and although my dress is full it was light and comfortable to wear and I felt like a princess. I wanted blue suede shoes as I had a big dress so you couldn’t really see them (apart from when I had to lift my dress in the rain on the way into the church). I borrowed a lovely simple pearl necklace from my Grandmother and then found some earrings to compliment it.

Bridesmaid Dresses

One of My bridesmaids came with me to choose dresses and we loved a navy one from Debenhams and thought it would suit everyone’s shape and then navy was incorporated into the colour theme.

Groomsmen

The groom and the groomsmen had navy morning suits. Finding decent navy tails was not easy but Suitors in Buckingham stocked a lovely normal navy suit and morning suit which was great as initially Alistair thought he would like a normal suit. Alistair’s waistcoat was from Favourbrooks. He chose this after seeing an advertisement in one of the bridal magazines as he didn’t want a satin waistcoat and cravat, it also meant that he got to keep part of his outfit. He also treated himself to a made to measure shirt from Emma Willis after much persuasion from me that it was ok to spend a bit on a shirt considering the amount being spent on my dress.

Venue

Our venue, Homme House was just fantastic. As soon as we started our journey from the church in Much Marcle up the tree lined drive we had a feeling that this is where we would celebrate our marriage and when we got to the house we knew it. Jocelyn and John welcome you into their home from the Thursday before your wedding and then it becomes your home for the next few days. You can really tell that the family love the house and the gardens. I stumbled upon Homme House when googling venues in Herefordshire which is near where my parents live. The church being just down the drive from the house was also fantastic as Alistair’s relatives from France were not then driving around the English/Welsh countryside after the wedding ceremony.

Florist

I chose the flowers before the dresses so just went for white. Sandra was brilliant, she worked wonders with the textures of the flowers and managed to source Hydrangeas which were just going out of season. She also moved our flowers from the church to the venue.

Transport

Alistair is 6’4″ so I thought a very small car to take us from the church to the venue would be a good idea!!! Blossom was wonderful and Michael took us for a small drive in her after the ceremony – a lovely moment was when Michael parked up in a country lane and we all shared some champagne.

Ceremony

Our ceremony was conducted by Reverend Elizabeth Reed. She met with us several times before the wedding and remembered small details from our meetings which formed part of the ceremony which was lovely. We also had a choir organised by the organist at Much Marcle church, Malcolm, who sang a couple of songs from The Phantom of the Opera and The Sound of Music and helped out with the hymns. Everyone commented that they were brilliant and really added to the atmosphere.

Catering

Belle House catered our wedding. There was a list of caterers we could use and they were head and shoulders above the others we went to visit. Steve and his team were great and they make the most wonderful home made bread. We had antipasti, followed by a beef main and for dessert we had a trio of desserts. We then had a mixture of cheeses (French, English and Welsh) in the evening.

Cakes

Jill my bridesmaid made the most wonderful cup cakes – a mixture of lemon and Guinness, both great! She designed them herself decorating them beautifully with white icing.

Drinks

We ended up having a wine theme by accident. Alistair’s family are from Bordeaux so wine is a big deal and his mum and aunt sourced our wedding wine and champagne.

Decor

Table plans were made of individual corks. My family are Welsh and my mum made our favours – welsh cakes.

Photographers

The photographer was really important to us as the photos prompt so many memories of the day. We found Warren’s website and his documentary style was just what we were looking for. When we met Warren for the first time he was very personable and enthusiastic about our wedding. He spent the entire day with us from about 10am until nearly midnight and captured everything, his pictures are amazing! One if my favourite pictures is Jocelyn from Homme hoovering the rug in the hall before I came downstairs – it reminds me how dedicated all of our suppliers were.
