Dani & Fredi

A little love story: Dani (a Cali girl) met Friedi (a German boy) in Chicago, they fell in love and decided to start the next chapter of their lives in London…..and then they lived happily ever after. In between the romantic ending of this fairytale the couple held the chicest, prettiest city celebration for all of their friends and family, filled with beautiful roses, hints of blush pink, love and laughter.

Dani has more than a hint of the Grace Kelly vibe about her (the dress! the hair! we die!) and although it’s not often I get emotional about anything automotive, I really really love the portraits in the wedding car. It’s like being let in on a secret rendezvous.

Happy Tuesday lovelies!

The Dress

Dani The Bride: My bridal look was inspired by Grace Kelly with vintage Hollywood waves and simple fresh makeup.

The Grooms Attire

Fred wore a custom tailored tuxedo inspired by the classic British fit with a Tom Ford white bowtie to add a twist.

The Venue

The Home House: As the website says, we were drawn in by “a magical mix of 18th century splendour & 21st century avant-garde.” We are both members of The Home House and have enjoyed many a lovely cocktail and Sunday brunch in the venue’s grand parlours and cosy nooks. We wanted to bring our US and German families and friends to our special neighbourhood spot of ours.

Colour Scheme/Décor

We wanted to bring a summery, easy feel to our formal church and reception venue.

Florist

Inspired by the beautiful English gardens that we’ve come to absolutely love. We kept the venue flowers on the light side, but played up a handmade garden terrace photobooth by Curious Fair and treated the tables with silver candelabras and a mix of hanging and wreaths of roses.

The Bride’s bouquet was natural and uncomplicated. I wanted to feel like I walked through a garden and picked a beautiful bunch of flowers. The Bridesmaids wore single a blush pink rose in their hair and held a simple bunch of long stem blush pink roses.

The cake table had loose roses to accent the handmade wooden cake stands and lovebird logo cake topper.

The Wedding Party Fashion

The Bridesmaids wore a soft blush strapless dress, with accenting beaded belt and nude coloured shoes, each selecting their own shoes for comfort and re-use! Their hair was blown dry with loose summery waves.

The flower girl and children attendants wore baby rose crown wreaths and button holes. The girls wore simple white dresses and the boys wore tan trousers and braces.

Ceremony

We followed a traditional wedding ceremony, with bilingual elements and programme translations throughout in English and German.

Entertainment

Our cocktail reception was jazzed up by Corliss Randall, The Home House singer, and her hand-selected and individually acclaimed band members. Corliss is known for her powerful jazz ballades and diva style, making sure everyone is having a good time and really feels the music.
We worked diligently on our DJ song list to bring in the classic rock and country favourites and carefully switching over to the R&B and house mixes that satisfied our Chicago memories of the club nights we shared together!

Food

We chose canapés that were crowd pleasers, such as mini fish and chips, stuffed mushrooms, steak and chicken skewers and mini cheese and onion quiches
Food had to be good, and The Home House’s food did not disappoint. We opted for the beef fillet or the smoked mozzarella and potato ravioli.
For dessert, we had a six flavour cupcake tower, topped with a red velvet and cream cheese wedding cake. Primrose Bakery offered wonderfully tasty gluten free selections to meet our needs.

Photographer

We looked for a photographer who could help us achieve a genuine feeling photography experience, and one who could provide something extra in terms of artistic eye and originality. We wanted to see our wedding from our guests’ perspectives and wanted just the right amount of staged photographs to send to our families.

Videographer

MY dear cousin from Indiana, USA, filmed all the key moments and put together a DVD series from the wedding weekend. The homemade video feel is so us.

Pre-Wedding Celebrations

The day before the wedding, we took 60 guests on a vintage red bus tour around the city MC’d by our favourite Brit and colleague. The bus stopped at the Portman Square where we enjoyed a bespoke picnic staged by Curious Fair with picnic blankets, custom labelled Coca Cola glass bottles and finger sandwiches and sweets from M&S catering.

  1. That looks like a fun wedding. Not sure what that white sheet was, but it definitely made the couple smile. The photographer captures some great happy moments.
