Danielle & Scott: The Honeymoon

Hello RMW lovelies. It is June! Oh my goodness, I am beginning to have palpitations over how close the wedding is and how I’m pretty much living in lala land pretending it’s not happening…

Since I’m in fantasy land right now, I might as well stay here and dream of adventure. We’ve never factored our honeymoon into our wedding planning or budget – it’s seems like such a faraway dream when you are also saving just for the elements that make up the actual wedding, so it’s been our decision from the beginning to put off our honeymoon until 2016. We get asked ALL THE TIME where we’re going, probably one of the most frequent questions when chat turns to weddings…

When receiving tips from already-married friends and acquaintances, one of the things I hear most often is “take time off after the wedding…don’t go straight back to work!” and so this is definitely something Scott & I have planned…I can’t imagine having the best day ever with everyone you love to then have to come down off that massive high with your Monday morning inbox…gross! We are so lucky to have two of our friends travelling from Canada for us, so we’re taking some time off after to have some quality adventures with them – we’re planning on exploring London a little (it’s Nik’s first time to Europe, so he has lots to see!), spending a day by the sea, and another day cycling in the New Forest before we jet off to Italy to spend 5 nights split between Milan and Venice. We can’t wait, it’s going to be so exciting! This definitely isn’t classed as a honeymoon, rather an extremely fun wedding de-stress with pals that we love but don’t get to see much of (thanks to the Atlantic for that…)

I’m a traveller…I have wanderlust at least twice per week and I can’t sit still for thinking about the world and all that’s in it that I want to see. A honeymoon for me isn’t some once in a lifetime holiday I need to go on, it’s just another adventure to tick off my list. I’ve been lucky enough to visit a lot of Europe, explore a whole bunch of the UK (Scotland is still one of the most beautiful places on earth…), I’ve roadtripped through the rockies in Canada, California, Washington State, Oregon, New Jersey, New York, Massechuetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Louisiana and Texas, and dipped my toes in the gulf of Mexico during family holidays to Florida and all of those trips have been magical, enlightening and memories that I will keep forever – to me, my honeymoon doesn’t need to be more than that, it’s just another great escape with my love by my side.

We’re thinking of hiring excellent airbnbs in two of our favourite cities in the world so far: NYC and Austin, followed by a relaxing few days in the Bahamas with Scott’s family over there, and this sounds ideal to me. We just need to price up multiple flights, accommodation and see how much time we can take off from work, then we will put more firm plans in place. I can’t wait! I haven’t been to NYC in years, and I miss it so. I plan to walk everywhere, eat a lot of good food, see some excellent music and drink some delicious drinks. Good times!

Where are you going for your honeymoon, or if you’re already married, where did you go? Inspire me! The world, as they say, is my oyster…

The next time I write, I’ll be signing off…one more post before w-day (aaahhhhhhhhh)

Much love,

Danielle xxx

  1. We are getting married next month, and flying the day after our wedding to Dubai and then onto Mauritius. I got engaged in New York – we travelled along the East Coast – Baltimore, Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, Niagara Falls and New York. Definitely got the travel bug! X

  2. We get married in Sorrento, so are spending a week in Italy, then a quick 9hr stopover in London before a flight to LA. A few days there, then Santa Barbara, Cambria and Monterey on the way to San Francisco for a few days then out to Hawaii for a week! This is my last long summer before beginning my “proper job” so we are making the most of it!

  3. Hi! We get married on 1st August and will be spending our honeymoon in Africa-maasai mara, Kilimanjaro, lake Nakuru, Victoria falls and an island off the coast of Mozambique. I’ve always wanted to see the wildebeest migration so a honeymoon was a great excuse to go and see it. The honeymoon will also be an adventure taster for when we pack our bags and travel the world for a year in 2016.
