Planning

With one in five U.K couples now hoping for a destination wedding, we thought we'd pop together a little something if you’re planning on marrying in sunnier climates. Plus, don't forget to listen to Series 2, Episode 5 of our Podcast: Destination Weddings and Where to Start, for lots more advice from Charlotte and Becky regarding the legal aspects that come into play. They are also joined by Kim from Love Cloth who shares her current experience of planning her wedding in Mallorca. Anyway, Passports at the ready - let’s go!

Planning a Destination Wedding

The Location

First things first, you need to choose your dream destination and venue! Maybe there's a location that holds special meaning to you as a couple? Or maybe you've always wanted to visit there and thought this was the perfect opportunity!

Save The Date

Unless you're happy eloping and want to keep your nuptials low-key, we highly recommend sending Save The Date cards ASAP. This will hopefully give them plenty of notice in advance to book time off work and pay for flights and accommodation.

Planners & Suppliers

Now: “who’s going to plan it all” we hear you cry. The majority of our Instagram followers recommended hiring a wedding planner to help coordinate planning whilst you can't be there. Your planner will also be able to assist in bridging any language barriers you may come across with local suppliers. As with any wedding, it's important to choose suppliers you can trust. Your wedding planner will be able to aid in this! Or if you're going solo, make sure you stalk all their social channels, read their testimonials and ask as many questions as you can.

The Wedding Dress

Most couples choose to have a destination wedding so they can enjoy a sun-kissed day. However, if your dream is to have a princess gown with layers and layers of heavy tulle and lace… you may want to reconsider. Choose loose-fitting, floaty fabrics, for extra comfort. This applies to your whole wedding party attire, no matter how much the groom demands he wears his favourite tweed jacket!

DIY & DESTINATION WEDDING

We absolutely love seeing how creative our brides and grooms can be on their wedding day. Their creations have inspired many of our own DIY tutorials. But unless you want to take a road trip to your destination or pay for additional luggage charges, it pains us to say, you should possibly keep any DIY projects to a minimum.

ADVICE

And last, but by no means least, keep your wedding dress, or anything of value, with you in your hand luggage. It may be a little creased when you arrive, but a few creases are nothing compared to a missing gown! (We’re sobbing just thinking about it…)

Could a destination wedding be for you?
